  1. I have had a conversation with a person who walked on the moon (Jack Schmitt). I have met Dr Aldrin. I have met Gene Kranz.
  2. We did discuss it but my 18 year old doesn't want to be bald at 30 like his Dad so ... here we are.
  3. UPDATE - So we met with the dermatologist. She recommended topical Minoxidil/Rogaine (OTC) so he is trying that out. She said if he sees more loss we can talk about more aggressive medical options (stronger topical or something in pill form) but that she feels we are right in tackling it early and this has a good chance of heading it off and probably increasing hair growth.
  4. I absolutely would. Every time I've ever not paid I've regretted it.
  5. There are medical solutions (medication) that can slow hair loss. Also hair loss can be tied to other causes - nutrient deficiencies and such. I have a young friend in London who did transplants but that's not on our radar at this time.
  6. Yeah, my husband (his father) lost his hair fairly young which is why we are seeing a doctor so soon.
  7. My 18 yr old feels that his hairline has receded a bit (he has always had a natural widows peak) and I can see what he is talking about though I'm not sure that it is hair loss (he dyed his hair a darker color and I think it made it more noticeable at least) ... we have scheduled an appointment with his dermatologist. Do you have any experience with this that you'd be willing to share?
  8. Mittenstrings for God by Katrina Kenison The Homework Myth by Alfie Kohn John Taylor Gatto (various) Brave Learner by Julie Bogart
  9. I would want to work in the Royal Archives. I'd basically like to be Lucy Worsely or Alison Weir. I want to pore over 500-800 year old documents and find the reference to the making of someone's shoes. I want to spend my time in old Cathedrals.
  10. I'm going to come in and say, I do think this cultural literacy has value, especially for homeschooled kids. They already have a division from peers from their lack of shared classroom experience. (They don't ride the bud with their friends and eat in the cafeteria and get assigned all the same reading and go to the Scholastic book fair and...) I made an effort to expose my kids to media that their peers were into when it was age appropriate. But we are a pretty media friendly family. I bought them books I thought were silly but that their scout patrol liked or the movie that everyone at youth group was talking about ...or the music everyone in their dojo begged to be played during workouts or encouraged them to Play pokemon and later D&D ... or whatever. I think introducing some films and shows won't hurt and may help her to find connections.
  11. Is your kid interested in something her friend absolutely wouldn't be? Like Boxing or JiuJitsu? Or something? Something perhaps her mom would find unsuitable (I'm imaging overprotective mom doesn't want her kid sparring) lol just to get her into an activity that opens the door to - "we don't do everything together?"
  12. We did with our middle child (now 22) ... the child would get up in the middle of the night very quietly and wander the house. The baby could open the front door of our house and get out. We got rid of the crib due to the climbing out in favor of a toddler bed due to fall risk and or toppling the crib risk. One night we heard something and found him on top of a kitchen cabinet - he could have turned on the stove or the garbage disposal and seriously injured himself. We had an eye latch on the outside of the bedroom door. It was not something that would slow down the fire department even a bit but it was enough to stop the kid.
  13. I chose never tried it but I very rarely use Mayo on ANYTHING. Not really a fan.
  14. My given name is a nickname and I've always hated it. In fact I stopped using it as a middle schooler, in favor of my middle name.

My Oldest will finish his Masters in Engineering in December via Texas Tech. So hooray to both of them!
