  1. My daughter only looked at freshman admit programs. Nursing programs are crazy hard to get into. Her program takes I think maybe 5 students junior year, but that's all. In our experience coming from community college would put you at a disadvantage.
  2. I was diagnosed at 15 and had zero symptoms. 15 years later my brother was complaining of losing his hair and being exhausted all the time. He finally listened to me and got his thyroid checked. I was right! My mother decided to go get hers tested and she had issues (she had surgery at one point) Every doctor I saw asked if anyone else in family had thyroid issues and I always said no. Every doctor thought it was strange as it tends to run in families. I have my kids checked once a year. I still have no symptoms. Or should I say that I know of. My whole childhood I was cold, really cold and no one else was cold. It was like a running joke.
  3. In my previous house we had a yucky unfinished basement we did laundry in and nothing else. A finished basement was my #1 priority when I bought a new house. My basement is amazing!!! I can't take credit for the design, I just like to brag about it :) I have a giant room for storage (30+ large moving boxes in there), a scrapbook area, puzzle table, storage for scrapbooking/sewing, cutting table for sewing, sewing machine table, bedroom, full bathroom and another ginormous room that is only half filled with furniture/tv/gaming stuff (it's that big) There are tall Windows (maybe 6 feet) with ladders in the window wells. It has plush carpeting and a zillion ceiling lights (which my son constantly turns on every zoned section) It would have been a true come true when my kids were young. Now it's geared towards teen/adults.
  4. Ice skating. My daughter has the most beautiful posture that people frequently comment on.
  5. I thought my son had ringworm. Dermatologist thought it was ringworm. Did a scraping and it was eczema.
  6. I get my steps in going in/out to recycling can in garage.
  7. My parents left me and my brother home alone when I was 14 and he was 16. I got drunk at a party and he had a party at our house. They left us alone many many times after that but aside from some car issues (accident, me attempting to drive with no license) things were fine. We lived in a ginormous house and I hated being left alone. I would leave every light on all night. One time staying home alone with the dog I freaked out, called taxi and took train to my brothers. I never left my kids home alone and would not be comfortable doing so.
  8. Have you thought about Colorado State University? It's an hour from Denver airport and very easy to reach.
  9. I play audible/Spotify on my iPod but am looking for a portable speaker to blast it through the house. Is that what Alexa/echo do? I'm just looking for speaker capabilities, nothing else. Is there a better option?
  10. I use overdrive (transfer to iPod and keep forever) and audible. I don't like buying books but I adore love want to marry Audible. I pay for 2 credits/month, they have daily audiobook specials and several times a year have buy one get one free sales (my favorite) I spend too much time in the car and audiobooks have saved my sanity. Sometimes at night I'm too tired to read, not a huge tv person and I can just lie in bed listening to a book.
  11. There was a documentary about him on Netflix. Personally not my cuppa.
  12. Fitbits are meant to count steps. So don't expect much from lifting hay bales and it may/may not pick up kayak motions as steps. Lots of people at gyms attach Fitbit to shoe so it will record more things. I don't charge mine more than 1-2 times/month and I wear it everyday. I would double check with Fitbit how water safe any of them are. Getting splashed with water is very different than submerging for long period of time underwater. Mine has survived the washing machine twice (about 5-10 minutes each time) The apple 2 watch is what I wish someone would gift to me :)
  13. I swim and get muffled hearing in one ear at least once a year. No infection, just earwax. I try debrox but it never works. Quick visit to urgent care and I can hear again. I was just there on Tuesday!
  14. When your crying in the try on room at Macy's as you try on a pair of size 18 pants.....it's time to make a change. I'm down 50+ pounds over 4 years and am working towards losing 23 more. Much happier wearing a size 10.
  15. My daughter has already begun buying her books and will rent others in late July/August. She is emailing one teacher before buying.
  16. I adopted an adult cat when my daughter was around 5/6. The shelter lied about the cats age (and admitted so when I returned the cat) My daughter kept telling me the cat was attacking her. Which was odd because she had been around cats/dogs since birth. She's 21 and we still call her the cat whisperer, cats love her. Except for this cat. I hid in her closet and watched as she sat on her bed reading a book. Out of nowhere cat came and attacked her. We gave back that cat, got another one from a different shelter and lived happily ever after :)
  17. There are gluten free pretzels and lots of yummy chips that are gluten free. Dominoes makes a gluten free pizza (kinda small and pricey, depending on how many you would need)
  18. You need a dog walker and/or doggie daycare on a regular basis. My dog was permanently out of crate by 1 year old. She hated the crate since she was a puppy and had bent it out of shape.
  19. I have a Fitbit one that clips onto your clothing.
  20. Dislike: any kind of red meat, ham, pork. Like: avocados, most fruit, salads, pizza, Chinese, sushi, tofu. Dairy free ice cream/cakes would be nice. I'm a pretty picky eater and not one to try something just because.
  21. My daughter bought a refurbished MacBook 2 years ago and it is a lemon. It has repeatedly been in for repairs, yet it still manages to have things wrong with it. When extended warranty runs out we will replace it with a new non-refurbished model.
  22. I would report it to manager and to Wal Mart corporate and on their Facebook page. Totally unacceptable.
  23. Come to Colorado!!! We have pianos you can play downtown and at the mall.
  24. http://myholidayinnorthkorea.com This is a really good book to read. She starts out excited at the beginning of trip and by the end is paranoid about doing anything that could be seen as an offense and be detained for.
