At least today I'm up to eating crackers and drinking some ginger ale. Thankfully, I'm not scheduled to work today because I'm not sure I could. My poor abdominal muscles are so sore. There have to be better jobs out there. I'm thinking of substitute teaching next year, but that's next year. I'm feeling vulnerable and my feelings are raw today. Thanks all of you for your good wishes.

Oh my, and I thought my boss was bad. At least, she doesn't require a doctor's note. Your boss was just mean-spirited! I hope you either don't have to work a paid job now or have a much better position!

She may be thinking spring fever, but she knows I work because I need the money. Plus, I don't have sick time pay or any benefits for that matter. It bits financially when I can't work. The most I've ever called in sick during a year was 3 times. That was 2 or 3 years ago when I seemed to get everything that was going around. In 2015, I was sick once for one day, in December. Unfortunately, this year I've already been sick once, yesterday. If I need a day off, I switch with a co-worker.

I'm so frustrating with my job, but have to stay until I can find something else. I was sick yesterday with a stomach virus. Couldn't go to work. I don't have any benefits including sick time. If I'm sick, I don't get paid. In December, I missed one day of work, then yesterday. Thankfully, I'm not scheduled for today. When I texted my boss (her preferred contact method), she told me to find someone to work for me. Well, no one I called and texted responded to me. My boss told me I had to work anyway. She's really angry with me now because I told her that I couldn't. Really, how do you work when you're throwing up in the bathroom frequently. I was crying last night about her attitude. I know we're busy at work, but people do get sick. Anyway, I would appreciate prayers for a better job and thoughts about this situation. She was transfered / promoted a few months ago into this position. It's really tough to keep a good attitude!

A friend's house did burn down because her young teen son (about 12) was "experimenting" with fire in his bedroom. They lost much of their belongings and their sweet cat, but everyone got out safely. Scary!! I'm so happy nothing happened to your house! Edited: spelling

Dave Ramsay - Have you heard of him other than online?
Eliz replied to Sun's topic in The Chat Board
A couple of years ago, our church offered one of his programs. It was very well attended. As others have mentioned, I much prefer Crown Ministries to DR. -
I know how you feel! The expected storms here did not materialize. We had a heavy thunderstorm, but no hail and no tornadoes where I live. I think northwest of us may have had a tornado on the ground, but I don't see any reports this morning yet.

Legal problems aside, the risk of sleeping in a bedroom without an egress window would be unacceptable to me. I couldn't in good faith, rent it to someone or allow them to sleep in the room. Years ago, a neighbor's nephew was trapped in a basement "bedroom" without an egress window during a fire. He was rescued, but was badly burned.

Do you let your kids play in flood water? (Not a JAWM)
Eliz replied to DaisyDay's topic in The Chat Board
My daughters have always loved to play in rain water puddles, but flood water, absolutely not. There's too great a possibility of gross contamination. Why take that kind of risk? -
My daughter got her scores this morning, minus the writing of course. She did well; I'm happy. She'll be relieved.

:grouphug: Happy Birthday!

ACT today--extra math section?
Eliz replied to lispy's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
I didn't realize until this morning, but my daughter's scores will be available in 5 to 8 weeks since she took the optional writing section. Oh well. Patience is a virtue. -
CC Please pray my friend's dd will be found safe Update--Found safe
Eliz replied to Chris in VA's topic in The Chat Board
Oh no! Praying for her to be found safely. -
I wouldn't because there're too many people getting on and off at different stations. I wouldn't have any qualms about flying or possibly a train.

ACT today--extra math section?
Eliz replied to lispy's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
My daughter did not have the extra section, but did have the writing portion. She finished almost an hour before I thought she would. She was tired and happy she didn't have the 5th section. -
Thoughts regarding CLEP?
Eliz replied to SparklyUnicorn's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
My older daughter intends to take the Am. Lit CLEP this summer. I'm not sure about any others. If she gets credit, great; if not, at least I've haven't spent a huge amount of money. -
The Great Courses Plus
Eliz replied to Pam L in Mid Tenn's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
I was one of the beta testers and an early subscriber. After reading these posts, I just emailed the company this morning about some type of consideration. I took a screen shot of the lower prices just in case. In my experience, The Great Courses has always had excellent and responsive customer service. I'm hoping they will extend my access. Have to wait and see. -
I hope everyone does well! My daughter is taking the ACT with writing this morning too. There a lot of kids heading into the building when I dropped her off. She was supposed to take the test earlier this year, but had to cancel and reschedule. She definitely wasn't thrilled with getting up early this morning.

There's a Great Courses lecture series on Japanese culture, but I haven't listened to it.

My dd wants to take French, wwyd?
Eliz replied to ...................'s topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
My daughters chose which languages they would study while they were still in middle school. All I required was at least 2 years of the same language in high school. My older daughter is dyslexic. She started with German but decided she prefered French. French hasn't been that hard for her even with dyslexia. But to be fair, she has developed really good study skills. My younger daughter is enamoured with everything Japanese. No other language would do. I can help a bit with French, but not at all with Japanese. Since there are so many subjects that I consider non-negotiable, I want to give them choices in their electives when I can.
