  1. Praying for everyone there and especially for your friends.
  2. Praying hard for you! I've been where you are in terms of work. So many people don't realize how hard it is to juggle multiple part-time jobs. It must be almost impossible to handle work and the special needs of your son.
  3. If you don't mind a Christian school, Madame S. at the Potter's school is terrific. My daughter has taken several years of French with her.
  4. How Wonderful! Congratulations to your son.
  5. My daughters used takelessons . com for some voice lessons to prepare for auditions. The Skype lessons worked very well for them. I've noticed that takelessons also offers language tutoring, some through skype. It is a legitimate site, but I can't speak specifically about language lessons.
  6. I'm not buying anything from the current specials so can't help you with a generic semester. If you sign up for Landry's email, they occasionally offer discounts that are pretty good. Your post doesn't include the age of your son, but my girls began online classes as middle schoolers and have been fine with them. Check out Virtual Homeschool Group for next school year. They offer some free online classes. Class offerings vary each year depending on volunteer availability. It's tough to get into the classes unless you are a volunteer or a donor but as far as I know there's no suggested minimum amount to donate. Volunteers and donors get first chance at class registration. HTH
  7. My older daughter enjoyed studying psychology and humanities. My younger daughter will be studying art history with me next year. Both girls loved their mythology course.
  8. Just in case anyone is interested. Landry has unadvertized spring specials for the next day or so. The special changes every 4 hours. landryacademy.com/specials
  9. I have no advice either, but sending lots of virtual hugs to both of you. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: I would get a second opinion if at all possible.
  10. Since Teen Pact is conservative, would a somewhat more liberal teen be accepted? Would her views be challenged constantly? I would like to send my younger daughter in next spring, but we're more liberal than the typical Texan, at least in our area.
  11. Congratuations! I'm so glad it worked out for your DH.
  12. That's what I thought when I first moved here. But it so much more. The parties are a celebration of family and the young child. The ones I've attended are joyous occasions, even if they very different from my own experience.
  13. The school where my daughter takes Japanese lost power this semester. The class was not rescheduled. I actually didn't even think about it even though we pay tuition. Embarrassingly, I was happy the class was canceled and I didn't have to drive her there. It's about 25 minutes away. I looked a few minutes ago: our co-op doesn't have a written policy about making up days specifically, but does include days to make up inclement weather tacked onto the end of the semester.
  14. I would have loved diapers as a gift for my daughters. It's shocking how much I spent on diapers. But maybe if your budget allows, you could include a "special" gift such as Christmas ornament as well. Some type of gift that's memorable.
  15. It's amazing to me how many different thoughts there are on kids parties. Growing up, birthday parties were given for kids old enough to remember. That's how it is in my family now. But living in an area that's diverse, there are many parties for 1 year olds and for baptisms that are very large. The last one party for a 1 year old I attended had well over 100 people, mostly adults, with a DJ, great food and alcohol. It lasted well into the morning hours.
  16. I'm so sorry for your lost. Losing a parent is painful. May be rest in peace. :grouphug:
  17. It would be wonderful if he offered live online classes! My daughter did not do well with this format. She doesn't like math and felt the time to get through each lesson was excessive. I think it was because she doesn't like math. Personally, I like the short videos because it easy to return a specific topic.
  18. You all are in much better shape than I'm in! I have some medical issues and a problem with my back. There's no way I could do an 8 hour walk, much less a hike. I guess that would mean my girls would have to drop that badge if I had to go with them.
  19. My older daughter is dyslexic. She's done well with French. Is Latin necessarily accepted for the foreign language requirement for college admission? I had heard many colleges require a modern language.
  20. In this area, we dodged the worst of the heavy rain. I"m concerned though because this type of weather is more usual in April rather than early March. I'm praying that we don't have a repeat of the terrible flooding of last spring.
  21. Congratulations!!!! He must be really excited. Did he get t choose the project and location or was he assigned to one? I just checked out the website. If I weren't old and tired and a single, working mom, I would like to participate in one.
