My next house will not be on a dirt road that is also the main road into the community. We had to take ds15 to the urgent care again this morning for asthma treatment. He cannot go outside anymore with all the road dust hitting the house like a tidal wave. Yes, we are listing our house for sale very soon.

We live on the main road of a gated rural, equestrian community. We thought our community was small until a traffic study revealed that about 700 cars pass our house daily. Since our road is a dirt road, there is usually a tidal wave of dust hitting our house. The dust has really made my ds15's asthma so intense that he has been in the urgent care a lot and rarely can go outdoors. We will be putting our house up for sale very soon. Also, everywhere we go we meet new neighbors who recognize us because they drive by our house daily. A bit more privacy would be nice.

I really like A Beka's 5th grade history with it's world geography emphasis. My vote would be to add A Beka language arts, science, and history. My 3 oldest are attending their second day of the Chemistry Intensive today. They are loving it!...talked all evening about it while finishing a simple lab report. My goal was simply to have my children have fun while getting some chemistry exposure. They still will continue their regular scheduled labs from their current chemistry course. For the intensives, no prior chemistry experience is needed because everything will be explained by the instructor. My daughter also enjoyed the biology intensive last fall (especially the dissection of a cat).

Actually, I am a babywrap and Ergo user. My 2 yr old is carried right now by my ds15 because I am 33 weeks pregnant and the belly and back need a break. I can walk and nurse with a babywrap. I plan to modify my mornings the month when baby is born, but my dd17 will march the kiddos promptly at 7:00...I am sure. She's up early every day milking goats anyway. When I was a child, my mother made it a daily habit that my family walked at least an hour. Although I live long distance from her, she asks about our walks and tells me about hers. I guess it's one of her legacies. And, yes, I am a pedometer wearer too...as my four older children. (10,000-12,000 steps before school) :001_smile: Congratulations on the birth of your baby girl!

Most mornings my children and I go outside on a walk around a lake for two hours (3-5 miles). It just doesn't feel right to sit down to do lessons until we get some sunshine and fresh air first. I like to have 30 minutes of transition time when we come back home for laundry rotation on the clothesline, smoothies, and nature journals. We then do school until lunch followed by literature read alouds, another time block of school, and quiet time. We also like to do school outside at home on our picnic tables with shade umbrellas. (But we do leave the house early at 7:00 and start school by 9:30 😀...and I think the minimalist in me says to bring nothing with you but sunhats and water bottles...just be outside)

I read the Dictation booklet today. Although I have been homeschooling using Charlotte Mason's methods for awhile now, I needed the basic reminder this very day to omit unnecessary things from our schedule (dictation being a powerful tool to simplify language arts). The message is similar to the "When More is Less" calendar articles and audio cd from Simply Charlotte Mason: choose activities that are simple but effective ("more simplicity = less confusion" and "more quality = less quantity"). This may be applied to other areas of life. While this booklet was short with minimal info, I am glad I got it.

However, I made an order several months ago for six art portfolios, the "When More is Less" 2015 calendar, and the Learning and Living DVD set. I love SCM Art Portfolios (each includes 9 high quality art prints and artist biography).

We picked up our first batch of library books for the 14 week schedule today. My dd5 looked at Why Elephants Need the Sun while getting stitches in her foot at the urgent care this evening. 😟 I just purchased your pdfs of the activity book and schedule, and we'll start Monday. Thank you, Jenn.
