  1. I am a fossil so I really don't know what is acceptable any more. Along the same lines--I saw a person wearing flip flops to church, pajama pants for a meeting at school, and there were a group of women who wore flip flops with a meeting with the President (it was in the news awhile back).
  2. So, if yoga pants are so widely accepted, where if any, do you draw the line and why? Do you wear them to church? To a meeting? Many have stated that they are just a covering and to say what one should and shouldn't wear is just bowing to current fashion or being judgey. So....church? Meeting with the President?
  3. So, is it legal to stand in your backyard and fire into the woods?
  4. I have donated blood on occasion but have never heard of double red. :bigear:
  5. We use a lot of whole, full fat milk and milk products here. By "use" I mean: some is drunk, some is used on cereal, some used for homemade ricotta and yogurt and puddings. We also consume full fat cottage cheese, yogurt, heavy whipping cream, cheeses, and sour cream. None of us are overweight. I belong to a club with a lot of farmers as members and they drink milk (with cookies) after our meetings.
  6. I believe I have read somewhere that the 8 glasses of water a day rule has been disproven. A better guide is the color of your urine. It should be near colorless, but not totally so (barring any supplements that change it).
  7. Beef--leftover steak, meatloaf, roast. Love beef. Or roasted broccoli. Cottage cheese.
  8. I would never have a rat after having to stomp on them during corn shelling season and after having read a book on them, nasty critters.
  9. I guess it would depend on how it is dented--a sharp indentation (with a crease) would be difficult. If it is a general depression, you might try a suction cup device to see if it pops out.
  10. Mine wrings them out a lot better than my old Maytag--they are pretty dry. Perhaps your drain tube is too long/high/kinked?
  11. Well great. Now I get to feel guilty about not providing my kids with rapid instructional experiences. I thought that teaching my dyslexic kid to read and do math when the school couldn't was enough.
  12. I have heard Suze Ortman say that everyone needs a living revocable trust. Everything stays in your control until you die then is passed directly on to the heirs thus avoiding probate and the potentially large probate costs. Wills can take a long time to clear probate, too, and sometimes there are bills that need to be paid, etc. and it is nice having access to the bank accounts in order to pay them. One must be sure to list EVERYTHING specifically that will be in the trust. That is why some people opt to have a will also--to cover things they may not have stated. I am not a lawyer.
  13. What makes the other school districts so bad? If the other districts are just lacking in curricula, you could always supplement that at home. I would move closer to the job since you do not like where you are and the commute is eating up a lot of your time. Multiply the 2 hour commute by all the years your kids potentially may be in school. That's a lot of life spent in a car.
  14. No way on the planet I would bend to the whim of a 5 year old. My time is valuable and I don't think parents should devote their entire existence to their kids.
  15. Piece work picking vegetables for a farmer. Growing/selling flowers or vegetables at a farmer's market. My son did both of these.
  16. Violet Dawn. Says she with no middle name.
  17. Is he being treated for the sleep apnea? Perhaps he needs a more in depth sleep study? Consistent bedtimes, consistent wake times. An alarm that simulates daylight. Wearing blue blocker glasses after 6pm so his body produces melatonin. Having cortisol checked.
  18. Wonderful! We made 43 gallons of cider last year and tried to make some hard cider out of a couple of gallons of it with not-so-great results. I would like to try this method this year.
  19. Is there a reason he needs to graduate early? Can you slow down, pursue more extra-curricular activities? (sorry--I don't know what he currently does) How does he know he wants to be an electrical engineer? Can you have him shadow one for awhile to see what he/she does?
  20. I eventually had to let go of what I had once thought was important. I initially tried to duplicate the brick and mortar schools--strict structure, comparable subjects. It did not work. I let some subjects go. I knew neither of my children wanted to attend college--not that they couldn't: they adamantly did not want to go. College is always there. When one decides a direction to take in life, it is amazing how quickly one can acquire the knowledge/skills/motivation necessary to accomplish that goal. Can you gear his education more to what he eventually wants to become?
  21. I would do it! I have seen mod podged furniture that looked lovely. I would paint the whole door, put on your artwork, mod podge it, then put non-yellowing polyurethane over the whole works.
  22. Can you share homeschooling duties with another family? You teach one subject; they teach another? Sometimes kids benefit from a little outside competition.
