  1. I have always wanted to jump on the raw milk bandwagon. However, my sister is a nurse in Wisconsin and she said they have seen a huge increase in the number of cases of listeria due to raw milk. The complications were really ugly.
  2. I write poetry but it's mainly for the enjoyment of my friends and family and is of the "There once was a girl from Nantucket," variety.
  3. Chimney first as it's repair affects the roof (flashing, etc) Then roof. I would actually plan on both at the same time. Shrink-wrap the windows and deal with them later. Make sure foundation is solid. A house will deteriorate quickly if the roof is bad. Have you climbed up into your attic to inspect it and the chimney?
  4. I would cook lovely lovely meals for myself. And not let any of the ingrates have any.
  5. My hubby is 8 years older than I and we are a good match, having been married for 33 years so far. He's Catholic; I'm atheist, but we have similar morals and work ethics. Advice? Leave them alone. She won't listen to you anyway if her heart is telling her what to do.
  6. Why not let them have the summer off? To answer your question: heck no. There were always too many things going on in the summer to do "school" work. Life doesn't exist solely in books.
  7. I vote small bow tie, but then, I would be using heavy cream and white wine reduction in the sauce.
  8. I think the brain can get in a rut and not know how to get out. I would have blood work done, checking all the hormones, D3, etc. I would make sure my diet is optimal since brain health is linked to gut flora. If all blood work came back normal, I would take an antidepressant to get my brain out of the rut. It's a tool.
  9. Freeze them for later use in shortcakes, jam and smoothies. Fresh in pie, shortcakes, syrup, ice cream, strawberry/spinach salad, strawberries and grapes in balsamic vinegar reduction, in fruit salad with celery seed dressing or pineapple dressing.
  10. I'm actually a bit jealous! Good for you! Is there a program or something that interested you?
  11. Don't know how enjoyable you might find it, but it sounds to me like you need to add some weights/strength training to maintain muscle tone. Easiest is to just add some body weight exercises or free weights with a video. More complicated is a power cage with an Olympic bar and weight bench. I am going to be 55 soon and am constantly astounded by women my age who are not able to do things I consider basic just because they lack the muscle.
  12. Thinly sliced zucchini which has been salted and drained will stand for the noodles.
  13. I just learned of this quote from him: “Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.†So much more to the man than I ever knew....
  14. Ask if there are any research studies or trials he might qualify for. Ask about immunotherapy.
  15. Nope. But she said her kids do believe in god, and, according to Poppy, UUs are supposed to foster "Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations." Couldn't this be looked as promoting "spiritual growth?"
  16. If you get to keep the shirt, why not just hem it up, cutting off the excess material. You can also sew in the side seams making it narrower. Sorry--didn't see the part about not being able to sew. I would just fold it under and tuck it in.
  17. Perhaps you should indulge. Some diets incorporate high calorie days into their plans to shake things up.
  18. This is a timely topic for me since I was wondering the exact thing as I argued to my neighbor that all Muslims are not out to "kill the infidels" (us). PrincessMommy would like to see the difference in men/women about changing their minds, I would like to see the difference in atheists/believers since in my circle of friends, the atheists are more likely to study all angles and then make a decision whereas the firm believers will rarely do so.
  19. Don't sweat the petty stuff And don't pet the sweaty stuff
  20. She is a foxy chick who knows Of Fifty Shades of Gray She hangs around with studs she sees Each and every day But lest you get too jealous Or think that she's a whore The gray is in her hair And the studs are 2 X 4s.
  21. Thank you all for keeping this girl in your thoughts. I saw her this past weekend--the first time in a while. She has gained some weight and is now around 100 pounds (according to her mother). Although she looked better, she did not look healthy (to me). Her mother is using some techniques mentioned in the article for the Maudsley technique and really feels like the daughter has turned a corner. She is letting her participate in ballet again. I gave her advice/information gleaned from you intelligent ladies and just now forwarded her the article posted above since I never knew how many anorexics experience relapse. Thanks again to all of you!
