  1. Oh Hell No. I can if I have to, but thankfully, I don't. I can live without heat before I live without air conditioning. Butt sweat on upholstered furniture--UG. And, I go outside in the 90 degree heat and work. So, it's not like I'm pampered. I just like to come inside and not have to sweat some more.
  2. I still have a phone attached to the wall with a cord and answering machine........
  3. Thank you for all your replies. I talked to the wife today--outside--and she said they have done nothing so far for the infestation. She thinks it is contained in their bedroom. I'll take you-all's advice, grow a spine, and just visit with them out of doors.
  4. They do have family but this man refuses help. I have tried in the past to help him clean up his place. He's a horder and very protective of his stuff.
  5. We put the chair in a chest freezer I happened to empty out the day before. We are not going to let them in the house again and try to just visit with them on the porch. I read, too, that the bugs don't like moving targets but this man has been known to sit for a long period of time at his kitchen table which is surrounded by mountains of junk mail. He does not bathe often enough and will put on dirty clothes, especially socks. This is hard. How do you tell someone they are not welcome in your home?
  6. I have an elderly neighbor couple who have been in the moving business and still do moving jobs for people. They came over for a chat yesterday, sat on my upholstered kitchen chairs, and after 20 minutes casually asked how they could have gotten bed bugs. The man is known to not bathe regularly and sit for long periods of time in his house which is cluttered (horders). They have the idea that they are going to get rid of the bed bugs by using a hair dryer along the baseboards because that is what his elder sister does for her rental houses. They will not listen to what the "so called experts" say on the subject. So, would you let them into your house?
  7. Damage from radiation is cumulative. According to a 2016 article in the NY times, the American Dental Association says that an adult with no problems can go 2-3 years between xrays.
  8. I visited my sister and brother-in-law and they have Alexa. She turns on and dims the lights, turns on different colored lights for parties, turns on and off the TV, answers questions, tells jokes, plays music, makes shopping lists. I do not have her at my house. I miss her.....
  9. You can ask your doctor for several month's worth of prescriptions. I think the rules have changed regarding controlled substances. My doctor was willing to write out several months' worth at a time to save trips in.
  10. We had trouble getting insurance that would cover our house and workshop. The workshop has a Buck Stove with an insulated metal wall behind it and is on a concrete floor. The shop is also 90' from our house, which does not have a wood stove. We do not operate a business from it. We live out in the country with the nearest neighbor 1/4 mile away. There were several companies who would not insure us because of the wood stove.
  11. I am a soon to be 56 year old female and I wear boy's/men's jeans. I have slim hips and not much waist definition (built like a boy) so they fit me better than women's jeans (don't have to wear a belt). I wear my boys' old shorts, too. Only problem I have had is that the pockets are very deep. Hard to get my wallet out of.
  12. That is such a great opportunity--I hope he gets it! My son is a ag mechanic and gets to work on the large farm tractors and equipment. He started at a very early age tinkering with things--he built his own push mower (with the help of his dad) when he was in kindergarten and bought his first tractor, a Farmall H, when he was 13. He learned so much working on that and restoring it. Throughout the years he has taken on odd jobs for people we know and has built his reputation. He now is a couple months shy of 24 years old and has worked for an ag equipment company for a couple of years. He has a very good salary, 401K, gets to drive a badass service truck, owns a home, and has a side business where he charges $50 per hour. All without ever having gone to a trade school! I didn't intend to steal your thread--I just get tickled when I hear of kids showing such enthusiasm for the trades. Greatest luck to him!!!
  13. Deep Woods Off. Tick populations are up 500% here (or so it seems).
  14. Yep--very easy to sign up. I have been on the list for several years.
  15. I had to reset the water level on mine (was too low) but other than that, I like the washing machine. I do not like the Speed Queen dryer. I have had troubles with it from the start and can't seem to get it fixed.
  16. My sofa is 30 years old. I just bought an industrial sewing machine so I can reupholster it.....
  17. We just went with family names. I couldn't find anything I liked to go with our last name and we wanted to be traditional. Son #1 was named after my father with husband's father's name as middle name. Son #2 was named after a grandfather with my maiden name as middle name. My mom expected boys and got 4 girls. She never had girl names picked out. My oldest sister named our youngest sister and my youngest sister and I do not have middle names. I was named after a dog. :)
  18. A word of caution: Friends of ours had a terrible roofer. They took videos of the crappy work and posted them online. The roofer sued. They went to court and my friends lost--and they had posted nothing but the truth; there were no nasty comments on the video. It just documented the subpar work. They were out the cost of the roof (very expensive metal roof) and their insurance company had to pay the other guy's lawyers and court costs. Unbelievable.
  19. I have had trouble with my Speed Queen dryer as well. It does not seem to advance through the timing as quickly as it should so the clothes get toasted. It runs and runs and runs. I have to put things on "Less Dry" in order to avoid that. And, yes, I had the repair man out twice to no avail so I just compensate.

Oh, honey. He's a man, after all.....
  21. There could be something stuck in the wound that is keeping it from healing.
  22. Is there a way you can knock out a wall upstairs and make a master bedroom--then make two bedrooms in the basement to move the displaced kid into? I would prefer the master bedroom to be on the main floor. I would not need a large laundry room since I tend to fold clothes elsewhere. If you are doing this with resale in mind, I would ask myself how much longer I would be living there and, if it isn't much longer, just spruce up the bathrooms, not sinking a bunch of money into anything.
  23. If I am hosting a party I expect to foot the bill for all the expenses and provide all the food, etc.--I would never dream of asking someone to bring anything. If someone asks if they should bring something and I want the help, I would then graciously accept and indicate what they could bring.
