  1. When you are at home, a mini trampoline can help with lymph drainage. Make sure you are getting enough electrolytes. I find it difficult to do isometrics--it is hard for me to work against myself, but I would use elastic bands. When you are sedentary, try listening to music with a strong beat--it can increase heart rate. Listening to Rush Limbaugh will increase my heart rate.....
  2. My son was 15 and already had his business license to sell flowers at the Farmer's Market--this is issued from our State. He went to the Bureau of Motor Vehicles to try to get his learner's permit to drive and they didn't think they could accept that as proof of ID. I gave them the stink eye and said if it was good enough for the STATE it should count as ID for his learner's permit. They accepted it but had to ask someone higher up.
  3. Well, apparently you are a saint because I would have fired him by now. And, then sued.
  4. I imagine your decision to pump or not would depend on numerous factors including what type of soil you have and how large your leach field is, how large your tank is, how many people are in your household and what you are putting down it. Check with your extension service to see what they recommend for your area. We have ours done every couple of years. That said, you could open up the tank, stick a pole down it and measure the solids to see if you need to pump it. I chose to let the septic guys do that.....
  5. Yeah, I know folks too who will leave food out all day and still eat it. I guess I will err on the side of science--universities have tested home canning methods extensively and made recommendations accordingly. My mom used to use zinc lids or the jars with the rubber gasket and bail handle. I don't see anyone using them anymore. :001_smile: Not knowing the type of tomatoes the OP is dealing with, I would hate to have her can them using antiquated methods, especially since tomato varieties are so different now than they used to be.
  6. This does not sound safe. If the tomatoes are acid enough 4.6 PH or lower, then one can process them in a boiling water bath. Tomato juice takes 45 minutes in a boiling water bath. If they are not acid enough, you can add some acid in the form of bottled lemon juice, citric acid or vinegar. Just because you put hot liquid in a hot jar and plop a lid on it and it seals does not necessarily make it safe. Jars will seal but the pathogens will not have been killed off. I purchased a Ph meter since I don't like the taste of added vinegar or lemon juice in my tomato juice.
  7. We have a couple of sofas that are sleeper sofas and are comfortable. You could always get a memory foam topper to make it even more comfortable. I think sofas are more versatile than daybeds.
  8. Depends on the 8 year old. Mine built his own push mower at age 5-6 and was building his own tools then.
  9. People tend to forget that the current homeschooling movement isn't that old and that most of us are products of the public school system and we didn't turn out so bad. Your home life will help shape your children regardless of whatever they experience in public education. Make the most of it. And know that education should happen over the course of a lifetime and whatever they do not learn in the public arena they can learn elsewhere.
  10. Feels good, doesn't it? I am soon to be 56 and I still have moments where I notice that I did something where I thought, "How grown up of me!"
  11. Ultimately you are an adult who can figure out what is right and wrong for yourself. If wearing a bathing suit feels wrong, then it may be wrong for you. There are parts of my body that have never seen the sun although my family is not religious and no one told me it was wrong. I feel too self conscious so I don't do it. I was about 40 before I ever used the "F" word and the world did not fall apart. I have drunk vodka in the middle of the afternoon and the world did not fall apart. I know what sort of person I am and it is freeing being able to decide what is right and wrong for me.
  12. Is he interested in programming it? As I recall with Lego Mindstorms, there was programming involved.
  13. Yeah, we looked at it through our welding helmet. It was cool but then the clouds took over. Then it rained.
  14. Still I have my question: if you say 6 divided by 2(1+x) and you distribute the 2 first, which I thought one could do, it becomes 6 / 2 + 2x and then you find out that x=2 as in the original equation.....one should get the same number whether or not one knows x first? And, if you do the division first 6/2=3 and then + 2(x)=4, one would get 7 as the answer? If you take the division bar to mean everything below it is in parenthesis then you have 6 / (2 + 4)= 6/6 so I still don't get 9..... How does distribution fit into the equation?
  15. Yeah, I'm a dummy--I thought one could distribute the number outside the parenthesis first, like if you did not have two numbers and one was an "x" or something, so that would read: 6 divided by 2(1 + x) = 6 divided by 2 +2x and if the divided by symbol means something different than "/" and it is a grouping thing, then what is the answer if x=2?
  16. Frankly, you have posted about this in the past. Unless you get on top of your eating disorder or perceived eating disorder, there is no right answer as to what you should be eating, how much you should be eating, or what size you should be. You have to get comfortable with yourself first and from your other posts, it does not sound like you are there yet.
  17. First off, I don't know what an escape room is......
  18. We take our husky (who found us) for walks down the road (around 4 miles round trip) or through and around the farm fields (farmers/owners do not mind) or to my friend's who has over 100 acres and 3 German Shepherds (all are buddies). He's spoiled.
  19. Bedbugs are NOT an indicator of what kind of person you are. I was just curious since I am placed in the position of not inviting my neighbor into my home any more. It's a terribly difficult decision and I have thought about what I would do if my home became infested. And, I honestly do not know.
  20. In my post about bedbugs I asked if people would let a visitor in if they knew the visitor had bedbugs in their home. The majority said no. How are you going to handle visiting other people and people coming to your home?
  21. If you do not have a problem, what will talking to a therapist hurt? I would wonder why your husband and child would want you to talk to one? Perhaps you have a problem you are not wanting to face? Frankly, I have read many of your posts and have wondered if you have an issue with body image (many women do), based on some of the comments you have posted and some of the topics you have started.
  22. And, what about steak? When I eat steak, it activates the pleasure centers of my brain and I can eat and eat and eat. I bet I can eat a pound of steak easy. Sounds like a drug to me.
  23. Well, seeing how I just put vodka in my diet soda I guess I get two categories right there..... Personally, I think sugar should have been added as a drug. What about food colorings? They have a detrimental effect on a lot of children. They must be a drug for them.
  24. I love having a basement. I own a lot of basement stuff--3 extra chest freezers, an extra refrigerator, house painting supplies, canning supplies and home canned goods, Costco purchases, Christmas stuff, camping stuff, bee keeping stuff, winter wear; I have a sewing/laundry room down there as well as a weight lifting/exercise room. We have a high water table, too, but have sump pumps and a generator to deal with it. Cat litter box is down there. I have an exterior entry and sink down there so the guys can come in and wash up and take off their filthy boots and clothes if needed. It's a plus in tornado country like ours.
