  1. Hm, toughie as we don't play tons of board games. We don't have anywhere comfortable to play, really. But, our favorites are Scene It (Harry Potter edition), Clue, Monopoly, Battleship, UNO, and my all time favorite old board game 221 B Baker Street. I adore that game so much, I would play it soon if it wasn't packed up.
  2. Our shelves are bare currently as we're eating up what we got since we're moving next week. However, when we're settled into our new place we'll be well stocked after a few trips to the store. I'm planning to create a dedicated area for a 'stockpile' of things that we normally use (and are hardly ever on good deals) so we don't have to buy them too often. We also need to purchase supplies for winter and snow (we haven't lived anywhere with any so we have nothing) and create supplies for tornado season. The fun of moving to Texas! lol
  3. Thanks all! We're definitely holding off on the dog for now, since there's a chance that the house will disappear since the landlord is keeping it up for sale despite us being in it. Thanks for the website aggie! I saw it through Sulphur's city website, but it's good to know it's a trustworthy site!
  4. I wouldn't complain. I'd be a bit upset that it wasn't replaced, but I wouldn't complain about it. Maybe question it, but I wouldn't make it sound like I'm complaining as the waitress did what she could and was told she can't do much more. At least she tried, I guess.
  5. Glove compartment. Glove Box too.
  6. My parents and I are moving next month (well about a week and 1/2 from now) to Sulphur Springs, Tx. It's east of Dallas. We'll be renting a 3 bedroom house with a chicken coop and 2 acres of land. Our rental will be around 800-900 a month and since we're struggling enough just to get out there, we're struggling with the idea of how to pay it to begin with. We're trying to save money, and we could use some help! There is a local farmer's market that we're aware of which is on every Saturday (they have one at 6PM and one at 8AM) so we assume we could save money by buying produce here until we can put in our garden. How much does produce at a farmer's market typically run? What are some good produce we can start with in the September - December time? Our place will be 9 miles from the walmart which is the only huge store out there aside from something called Brookeshire Grocery? So we need ideas of how to make things last without having to make tons of trips to the store. We have a crockpot but we don't know how to use it, or rather we haven't used it before. Any meals we could try with it to learn how to use it? What are some good staples we can stockpile up on? We're thinking pasta, and rice, but we're not sure what else. Currently most of our money goes towards my father's e-cigs and non-alcoholic beer. For example, he spends $71.04(at walmart) a week on it for eight cases. I'm sure we could save money from this, but he's not keen on letting either go very easily. We're also putting together the money (after rent is paid each money) to get a dog. We've always wanted one, we have two cats currently. What are some good places to look for german shepherd puppies? That's what we have our hearts set on. Any ideas you have on how we could make our rent each month?
  7. We use Jonny Cat, same for the liners. Can't really recall what we used prior that though. The bags we get are small enough that one whole bag fills up the box for a week.
  8. We're having frozen ravioli's, some canned veggie, and bread as dad will be out with a friend and it's just me and mom. If he wasn't, we'd probably have the same thing, but mom would have to make an entirely separate meal for dad with the meat since he won't eat much pasta.
  9. We have a dishwasher, but we'll soon be moving elsewhere that's without one. We have the handle up for sharp/steak knives, and handles down from spoons, forks, and regular table/butter knives. I'm not sure how I'll be doing it once we get settled in the rental without a dishwasher.
  10. For books, try Nancy Drew or Hardy Boys? Those might fit along his reading level. Boxcar children could fit, at least a few of them. The Westing Game. Cam Jensen series. TV shows, Perry Mason is a good choice. You could also try Matlock, it's sort of fitting and is in a court room setting like Perry Mason is, In The Heat of the Night (if he likes cops), Dragnet (cops), Adam-12 (cops). The cops have a sort of 'who done it' type feel as they're focused on finding the person that matches the details a lot of the time.
  11. I don't shave in the shower, it's too uncomfortable for me. So normal showers are 5-10 minutes. I don't see a need for spending anymore time in there than necessary. It's a shower.
  12. I was given one in high school since prior to that I didn't really need one since I was usually with a parent most of the time and we'd just use the garage door opener from the car. I'd give my child a key as soon as they have a constant need for one, like walking home from school. We don't have a key code pad, I don't really want one. Two of our neighbors are the only ones that do on our street of 6 houses.
  13. I wouldn't make a huge deal out of it. What really gets me is this 'The mom said it was her child and she could walk him back to class so atleast one time of the day he wasn't at the end of the line, that she didn't have to follow the rules because she knew homeschooling was an option if the school didn't change the situation' just because you homeschool doesn't mean you don't follow the rules. Maybe that's not what you meant when writing that, but it sounds like she believes she's above the rules and she isn't. Rules are in place for a reason.
  14. Definitely raise a good point there! I didn't know what ALS was either, and I had to look it up. No stories I've heard on TV have bothered to say what it is, they just show people participating.
  15. I'm a bit iffy on it. It's for a good cause, but I just feel like that water could be put to better use as well. They just had two dump trucks dump ice cold water onto some cops, or whatever they were I missed it, on the news out here today.
  16. The very reason why NotAlwaysRight exists, and RetailHellUnderground, is because of people like this. Retail just sucks in general because some people don't know how to be anything but rude sometimes. Hope her day gets better!
  17. I don't recall any teachers reading aloud, but I do recall having us read aloud amongst the class all the way up until my senior year. I absolutely hated it as other students were either slow readers or couldn't read at all. When we weren't doing that, the teacher would put on the audio tape of the book which was just as bad. I can't understand or enjoy a book being read to me. I prefer reading silently.
  18. Catalogs help a lot. I have a huge Rainbow Resource one, a Sonlight, My Father's World, and one for Notgrass. They help a lot to figure out what people are referring to. All of them were free too! After that, research around here for people's opinions on things, what worked for them, etc. Then from there look up the websites from the publishers for samples, prices, etc.
  19. I've always said starfish (that's what everyone around me has always said too), I've never heard of 'sea star' before.
  20. Have you glanced over Sonlight yet? Core 100 uses Joy Hakim's A history of US series. http://www.sonlight.com/history-geography-120.html I haven't used them yet, but there's also history sites like http://www.digitalhistory.uh.edu/teachers/lesson_plans/lesson_plan_ladenburg.cfm and http://www.sageamericanhistory.net/ that give you everything already, and you can add in your literature.
  21. You could do the theme days? like when they used to have tie-dye shirt day, pj day (although that could be everyday!), school spirit (the school colors/etc) day, crazy hair day, etc.
  22. I don't drive, but I have noticed from the passenger seat that people do like to float/cruise over into the other lanes without signals. Even from one side of the freeway to the other. Not only that, but they're much more aggressive, and speed way too much when it's not necessary. One thing I've noticed an increase of here is impaired drivers driving on the wrong side of the road. In one week a month or so ago we had like 3-4 crashes (some with death) involving these people. It's just sad.
  23. I think so. Why let your opinion on something stop you from being friends with someone? I say care more for her as a friend and less for what her lifestyle is. Is she a good person? Then be friends.
