  1. I have used this with good success: http://www.theprojectgirl.com/2009/01/19/menu-planning-form-free-download/ It's paper, not cyber, but I can wander into the kitchen and see what I have with paper in a way I couldn't with my iPad or laptop. :)
  2. MLW, I dunno about the Catholic devotions part, but I can definitively assure you that it is, in fact, "lie" in this case. ;) :D
  3. When we start making patches, I am SOOO there. (And I hate sewing, so you know I love you, Julie.) I will definitely be praying for you tomorrow at 7:30 my time. (((((:grouphug:)))))
  4. I think 17" square is plenty big enough for what you're talking about. Don't sweat it. :)
  5. I know friends of mine have had theirs blessed by their priest (RC), but I don't know if it's as common in RC parishes as in EO.
  6. I though Oryx and Crake was a challenging read, but not for the sex content so much as the depravity overall. Designer animals, too many drugs, environmental wreckage--shudder. I'd recommend it though, in a heartbeat, to a serious reader.
  7. I buy whole grain wheat flours (king Arthur or Wheat Montana) at my grocery store. They cost a bit more, but make better breads and other goods, so I don't mind. I'd like to say, though, that I think that it is easy for us as mothers-at-home to fall into a mindset wherein if we don't do X, Y, or Z, we are somehow failing our children/families, and I think this is wrong--a form of idolatry, in fact. If you enjoy grinding wheat, great, more power to you. If you enjoy making your bread by hand on the counter, great, more power to you. If you enjoy letting the bread machine make your bread for you, great, more power to you. Each of does what is best for us, and no one else knows what that is. :)
  8. Wow, I never knew any of that about him. What a stand-up guy! Memory eternal, Mr. Klugman.
  9. Snow on the ground, and bitter cold. -3 outside, according to the app. It was 0 when we were driving back from church at 8:30. A mite nippy here!
  10. The only thing that works for me when this happens is hylands cough syrup with honey. I am sure it's at least partly the placebo effect, but it works for me. Also, I say the Jesus prayer (Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me a sinner) over and over slowly while trying to breathe slowly along with it and not cough. It too helps. Again, partly the psychological comfort that's relaxing, but I'm praying and not coughing, so it's all good. ;)
  11. Christmas Eve, vegetarian chili before church. Christmas morning, Quiver's cinnamon rolls, and bellinis/mimosas. Christmas dinner, our tradition is to have quiche, and I am making all new to us ones--chicken bacon mushroom; bacon and arugula; and loaded veggie. We will also have homemade rolls, a salad, and Christmas cookies.
  12. This is how I felt about the LOTR movies. You don't want to get me started on those, I promise! But, though I haven't seen the Narnia movies, and probably wouldn't care even if I did, I feel your pain.
  13. Oh, I double it, and it makes 2 jelly roll pans full of pretty large rolls. I'd say one batch would make about 12-15 rolls, depending on size. :)
  14. Here ya go! http://thewelltrainedkitchen.wordpress.com/2006/10/26/quivers-legendary-cinnamon-rolls-courtesy-of-jean-quiverof10/
  15. Yes, they are that delicious, and yes, we're having them on Christmas morning with bellinis and mimosas. :D
  16. Yes, both of those. Also, you can read your bible or some other type of devotional or religious reading. Silent contemplation is good too. :)
  17. I agree with Nono. My sister's middle name is Aurora, and I love the sound and meaning of Amaryllis too.
  18. Like everything else I drive for, it's 30 minutes away; about 22 miles or so. :)
  19. Gifts that don't come from Santa go out as they're wrapped up. Stockings and Santa presents come Christmas Eve. :)
  20. Oops, 2 C flour. :tongue_smilie: I was trying to type beyond my capacity for speed and accuracy. ;)
  21. I use the joy of cooking recipe for rich rolled cookies. It's easy and makes a lot too. 2 sticks butter 2/3 C sugar 1 large egg 1/4 t baking powder 1/8 t salt 1 1/2 t vanilla We double it for our family. :)
