  1. So sorry, Audrey. Wishing you peace and comfort. :grouphug:
  2. Whoa. My question would be what the heck was he doing there to begin with?
  3. Lol! This is one of my top five books ever! God, country, patriotism, sacrifice, politics, love, friendship, war, peace, psychosis, mothers, sons, small towns, and all narrated by THE VOICE? Love! :001_wub:
  4. Well, don't think twice, Jean, it's all right! ;) I listened to it on cd...
  5. Just watched this with dds this past weekend! Love, love, love it. :001_wub: So, yes, I knew it right off.
  6. Oh, mama. :grouphug: I'm so sorry. :grouphug: No advice, just hugs and best wishes for you and your sweetie boy. :grouphug:
  7. Oh, and this one in Santa Fe, where my aunt worked for a bit: http://www.thefrenchpastryshop.com/
  8. Not in my town, but in Billings MT, my mother took me here: http://www.caramelcookiewaffles.com/cafe.htm. It was a little cute, but not cutesy. I'd definitely visit your cafe!
  9. Dd says this version makes her skin crawl. I didn't like it either. It feels, I dunno, kinda trite, I think.
  10. You can free file with H&R Block or TurboTax already, ad they'll file it on the 30th for you.:) I did mine already, so now I'm just a'waitin' and a'hopin'...
  11. That is to say, he's decided he's Mr. Popper's Captain Cook, the penguin. He's going around the house in a navy blue hoodie, saying "cook?" enquiringly. :D
  12. Vegan spring rolls and egg drop soup. Yummy!
  13. Ds did Behold and See 5 last year in a coop setting. It was fine. Short, because even though they met only 1x/week, they were finished long before the school year ended, like maybe in February? For us as non-Catholics in a Catholic setting, it was theologically unproblematic, and not too heavy on the God-talk. I mean, I like God-talk, ;) but it's really kinda out of place to have a lot of it in a *science* text. I thought it was quite well balanced in that sense--it mentions God and the wonder of Creation, but not on every page, kwim? The third grade one I have seen extensively and thought pretty silly, in the sense of either "ramp it up some, or just do nature study and call it good". It felt busy-workish to me at that level. However, I have friends who've really liked the B&S3; YMMV, etc. etc. :)
  14. We just received our first BB basket this past Saturday. I had paid for the organic basket, and I was pleased with what we received. Here the growing season is so short that I think that BB is totally worth it for us. If you live somewhere with a longer and more fruitful growing season, then no, it's probably not as good a deal for you as it is for someone like me. :)
  15. So good to see you, even for just a moment. Continuing to pray, sweetheart. :grouphug:
  16. Still praying for you, Julie, and waiting for an update when you can. (((((((Hugs and love.)))))))
  17. Here's my problem with this: IMO, if it is a true gift, it's not a transaction, an "I gave you XYZ, so you should give me a thank-you note." If I give someone a gift, I do not expect anything, anything at all, in return, because that's not what it is to give a gift. If you don't give the gifts freely, fine, don't give them. But don't give gifts so you can get something back.
  18. As I detest thank-you notes, I neither write them myself nor require my children to do so. However, we do always either thank the person at the time, if s/he is present, or we call to say thank-you. Why should we maintain a fictive degree of formality surrounding only this event of thank-you note writing?
  19. Absolutely without doubt. :) I've never felt safer than in an airport, even when I flew unaccompanied at 13. :)
  20. Aha. Gotcha. Yes, if it's helping, keep dosing. :)
  21. Praying for the Lord's mercy to pour over you like oil on the troubled water of your soul and for you to rest in His love, for He is with you always, even unto the end of the age. :grouphug: These lines from the personal prayerbook of St. Teresa of Avila have often helped me face my troubles: Let nothing disturb thee, Nothing affright thee All things are passing; God never changeth; Patient endurance Attaineth to all things; Who God possesseth In nothing is wanting; Alone God sufficeth.
