  1. Box elder bugs, out for their last hurrah before winter gets 'em. Harmless, but annoying. :001_smile:
  2. We have reused even the cheapie ones, if they didn't have chocolate. :) it's all good. Have a blessed advent!
  3. We usually get several calendars, but my kids all take turns opening the doors. Because this is the way we've always done it, no one has a fit. We go by days, beginning with the youngest child. It works well for us. :001_smile:
  4. I vote for anything except Mackenzie. It was the trendy name when I was a kid, and it's never appealed to me.
  5. Jenny, like Linskey, or just plain Jenny? Either way, she's a sweetie. :D
  6. That's a great strong name! I like its meaning too--we can always use a peaceful ruler around, right? ;):001_smile:
  7. Congratulations! Happy babymoon! (Name??? :D)
  8. The Highwayman is a good atmospheric one. The Tide Rises, the Tide Falls, ditto. Also, Ghost, by Walter de la Mare.
  9. :iagree:; I'd think that your dd would feel better resting at home in bed. :grouphug::grouphug:
  10. Ds11 is going as a punk rocker. Colored hairspray, (p)leather jacket, attitude.:tongue_smilie: when I told my mom, she said, "oh, going as himself, eh?" It's about right.:glare::D
  11. I don't like Galilee or Hosanna for a person's name. My vote is for Susannah, which means lily and has the same kind of sound as Hosanna. I also agree with pp that another virtue name might be confusing.:001_smile:
  12. I'd never seen this movie till I got married, and dh had me watch it with him. But to be fair, I kinda did grow up in an electronics free environment--we never had tv channels for my entire childhood. ;)
  13. What's Happening to my Body, Book for Boys by Lynda Madaras has a good chapter on the female body's changes too. It's a nice, secular, non-judgmental book. I recommend it highly.
  14. Sorry, but my dd who has the exact hair you're describing has a bob and shortish bangs. If I let it get it longer, or her bangs grow all the way out, she immediately starts to look like a scruffy ragamuffin, no matter how cute her clothes, etc. My sister was the same way. It's kinda just part of the thin fine hair, especially if you're not into high maintenance (I'm not.;))
  15. Right, that's what I was wondering about. I know how to use this phrase correctly in American English; it's the British usage that interests me. It seems to me that I had read/heard that the British say "forgot" in cases where Americans would say "forgotten"--that's what I was trying to verify. :001_smile:
  16. So, does one say "I had forgotten that fact," or "I had forgot that fact"? :D
  17. Can any British English speakers explain to me when you say "forgot" and when, if ever, you say " forgotten"? :D I am listening to a story written by an American but whose characters are British; I am curious about the author's usage of forgot. Thanks!
  18. No, more like Kate-a-lyn. The middle I is a schwa sound, and the emphasis on the first syllable. :001_smile:
  19. I am 34, and I hate "fart"; in our house the term is pop, if you MUST refer to it, which, preferably, you don't.:001_smile: I don't permit bathroom talk, i.e. jokes about bodily functions in my presence--and I am usually very present. ;)
  20. Yeah, we watched this last year, and skipped a few spots because it really was just over the top. :glare:
  21. Oh, don't think of the cartoon--think of the brave giant and name him Finn! :D
  22. Oh, don't forget the John Cusack movies! Better Off Dead, and Say Anything..::001_wub:
  23. My three boys are Finn, Ian, and Gideon. Finn was unheard of in the US when I named him--he's named after Fin MacCool--and around here it's still pretty rare. I tried to get dh on board with either Ronan or Eamon when we named Gideon. I still love Eamon. :D
  24. Well, as the proud owner of a very unusual name, I know that people, even long time friends who wish me well, often can't remember the spelling of my name, or, often, the pronunciation. I have come to respond to nearly any conceivable variant! Signed, Caitilin, not Caitlin, or Katelyn, or Caitlyn:D
