  1. Versailles. The palace is great, but the grounds are what really made the visit spectacular. I was there 13 yrs ago today....
  2. Bless your heart! Hang in there it will be here before you know it. I can't remember, is it breast? Will you be doing reconstruction as well?
  3. Yes I used the grammar stage biology this past year and we really enjoyed it. I bought the experiment supplies box as well and was glad I did. We plan on using the Earth Science this fall, the updated version should be finished soon so I am waiting to order.
  4. I'm giving you a bump because I have had the same question as well. I tinker with it but just can't seem to unlock all the secrets!
  5. Pectus Excavatum? Type that into Google, I would link but my iPad is crap at the moment.
  6. "when I decided that it was better to have a formula fed baby who was happy and secure with a mummy who was bonding with her, than a breastfed baby who cried every time mummy held her" This line answers your dilemma. A psychologically healthy mom far outweighs any BF/FF argument. I had a breast reduction 15 years before I had any children. Because of the scar tissue, BF was nigh-on impossible. I could have done it, but they wanted me to have formula in a bottle up by my head with a tube taped next to my nipple. I just knew for me, that was a recipe for disaster. And like my mom said to me, go to any K class or college graduation and point out the kids who were BF. You can't tell. As long as you hold and love baby whilst doing the formula, it is not a bad thing. Love your baby and enjoy this time now.
  7. Good heavens to Betsy! "wasting away hours in Loire Valley" should not be in the same sentence! I would love to see Loire! Sigh, Have a wonderful time!!!
  8. Another Outlander fan here! I have been teasing DH for several days about the Outlander vacation I will be taking. Haha! he reminded me this am when he left for work to "remember to feed the kids". Hehe. However, I can't start it until I finish 1776 by McCullough, I am just about there. What a long, slow slog....
  9. I have that Usborne internet links Encyclo, and we have loved it this year! We have come across a lot of great content! I think that helps me feel I got more bang for my buck, haven't felt like I needed anything additional with that book handy.
  10. I start the first part of August. I do a '6 wks on/1 wk off' kind of a schedule. I plan in 6wk chunks, the week off I use to sketch out the next 6 weeks. This gives me about 42ish weeks of schooling, not that it matters where I live as I don't have to keep any records. I felt this was a good way for me to stay on task.
  11. No need to do anything special other than follow the instructions given to you by the surgery center. I have worked recovery room for the last 8 years, part of the job was I have to call patients and get their health history/give them pre-op instructions. One of those was "NO eating/drinking after midnight before surgery". So one guy who was looking at a 8-10hr surgery, decided he should run thru McDonalds on his way to the hospital cuz it would be a long time before he would be able to eat. Yeah, he had to be rescheduled. And FYI, no eating/drinking usually will include hard candies. Had plenty of people get postponed cuz they sucked on lifesavers. So good luck and get well soon!
  12. My girls are 6 and 8, we just finished on ancients. I scheduled SOTW for 2 days a week. The first day I read the text, we did our maps (they LOVED the maps) and then the coloring page and narrations. As far as the other activities, I didn't have a lot of time so I would pick and choose. Sometimes we did one, other times not. One thing they loved that I made up was using different colored beans for a mosaic picture. It was one of the later chapters on Rome. I also tried to get library books that could pertain to the lesson, but that was only when I had my act together! haha! With younger kids you could probably be really relaxed in your approach....
  13. I do something a little bit like this. I school 6 wks on/1 wk off. This comes out to about 42ish weeks total. Where I live I don't really have to keep track of anything. Anyway, I have a file box with 6 hanging folders, one for each of the weeks in the "term". Inside each hanging folder is a manila folder with each girls name on it. Before the term starts, I print up 6 weeks worth of work (MM, WWE, SOTW, Science, etc). Then Sunday night (usually) I load up their folder for the week. It is one of those plastic report folders, with five pockets in it, one for each day of the week. I fill the pockets with each days work. At the end of the week I then file all those papers in a binder for each kid. I think we will keep on with this, it kept me on task pretty well. :)
  14. NO is a one word sentence. Explanations unnecessary.
  15. Call now and get the ball rolling. It would be a few weeks before they could do it anyway. You can always cancel or reschedule, but at least for now, you got your place in line...
  16. For the past 8 years I have been a RN in the recovery room of a cancer hospital. They can do many amazing things with mastectomy and breast reconstruction. The docs I work with are amazing. I would not hesitate to go the surgical route, as tough as surgery can be. Best of luck to you and your healthcare team.
  17. Good Heavens. I feel for you. My DHs granny passed two years ago in June. It took DH's mom (granny's only daughter) a year and a half to go through the items in the house ONE by ONE. Every drawer had to be opened, every bag and boxed checked. I think she brought A LOT of stuff home from Granny's house. Unfortunately DH's parents have a touch of "hoarderitis" as it is and I will be going through all of that stuff again when they pass. Hopefully, DH won't get all sentimental and insist we keep a bunch of stuff.....
  18. My 8 and 6 yr olds both love it. When we went to Comic Con they could recognize all the people who had Dr Who themed costumes. The Weeping Angels are creepy! DON'T BLINK!!!!
  19. formerly known as Language Lessons through Literature, how vital is the workbook? Must have or can I just have the kids keep a notebook with their assignments written down in there? We finished with WWE1/FLL1 and are switching to ELtL this upcoming year and I am trying to get things figured out.... Thanks!
  20. I LOVE my Charlie's Soap! DH gets hives if you look at him cross-eyed and had trouble with a lot of detergents. Not Charlie's and stuff comes out clean. I always use vinegar as a fabric softener. Also keeps any buildup to a minimum.
  21. My mom started letting me do make-up going into Jr Hi (7th grade). She bought some mascara, eyeshadow, etc, and told me that if my face looked like "two burnt holes in a blanket" she would take it away and I could try again NEXT YEAR!!! Needless to say, I was very careful in my application from then on....
  22. I am NOT a bath person. I don't see the point in stewing in my filth! So I would totally opt for the fancy shower/no tub option. We have a tub in our MB and I have never sat in it in the 11yrs we've been here. I think I may have bathed the kids in there less than 5 times. Another mark against it, is that there is carpet in the that BR, including around the toilet. WHO DOES THAT?! :ack2:
  23. The other guy's insurance should be picking up the tab for your DH's rental and medical. At least that is how it's supposed to work....
  24. Wow! Thanks everyone! I am copying and pasting a new reading list like mad here.......
