It's becoming clear to dd16 and me that she will most likely major in math. I would like to show her what the options are for fields of study and careers. What are some resources that can help us with this?

Self-paced Online AP Computer Science
ddcrook posted a topic in High School and Self-Education Board
I'm looking for a self-paced, online AP computer science course. I'm also open to self-study materials. Any recommendations? -
Our grandbaby girl, baby A, was born last night, stillborn.

What a cutie! Congratulations!

You can find support and information from other women who are at high risk for bc at this forum. I'm sure it's difficult to learn of your risk so soon after your mother's death. Any decision about surgery doesn't need to be made right away. You said that you want to feel like you're doing something, but you really are doing something. You're getting the genetic testing, appropriate screenings, and making healthy choices. Cancer sucks. I'm sorry that you are facing this. Hugs.

FYI: seeing children pain, cold, flu medicine shortage

Good point! I forgot about large families and the problems that limits cause them. -

I wonder why they didn't set the limit to one per customer. That would get your child through an ear infection or whatever and leave some for others. -

And I read "90 Day France" and thought it sounded like a lovely show!

Okay. The representative was concerned about physical threats to his safety. What kept him from attending via video conference?

S/O do people in your home eat in bedrooms?
ddcrook replied to theelfqueen's topic in The Chat Board
No. We eat in the kitchen and dining room. -
We used them at the school where I taught kindergarten in the mid 90s. I had forgotten all about them!

Yes, it's so frustrating. Screening mammograms are completely covered by insurance, but diagnostic mammograms are not. So women with a normal b cancer risk get free yearly mammograms while women who have previously had cancer or have an 80% risk due to a BRCA mutation have to pay for yearly mris and mammograms.

Update in 1st post - I know now why people cry at funerals JAWM
ddcrook replied to Laura Corin's topic in The Chat Board
I completely agree with you. Exactly a year ago we were trying to make arrangements for my dad. The stress of trying to arrange the burial under bizarre circumstances and unnecessary drama left my sister and me sleepless and emotionally spent. It took us about six months before we could begin mourning the loss. Hugs. -
Why can’t he tell the railroads they have to concede instead of the workers? Over the summer the president appointed a Presidential Emergency Board to investigate the dispute and recommended how it should be resolved. The railroads agreed to the PEB's recommendations, but the unions did not. As a strike approached in September, after some intervention from the executive branch, both the railroads and union leadership agreed to accept the PEB recomendations with the addition of one paid sick day. So far the railroads have done what the president has asked. I’m not sure I understand how congress can force anything. Under the Railway Labor Act of 1926, Congress has the authority to make both sides accept the agreement. Sadly, neither the railroads, the unions, the executive branch, or the legislative branch are addressing the workers concerns.

Talk to me about "moderate" lymphedema...(Update)
ddcrook replied to knitgrl's topic in The Chat Board
I'm so sorry that you're dealing with this. There is a lymohedema section in the breastcancer.org community. It appears to be an active forum, and I think you will find excellent advice and encouragement there. I recommend finding a certified lymphedema specialist before you have surgery. It might be helpful to start the exercises immediately after surgery. One simple one that I did was lift my arm slightly and squeeze a stress ball. I was able to do that several times a day. So far I have avoided lymphedema, but my lymph nodes were removed at the time of my first surgery. Sending hugs! Lymphedema was one of my biggest fears too. -
