  1. I had one a couple months ago. It was red and painful, but not infected yet. I soaked it, then used a piece of dental floss to get under it at the corner and pull it up a little, then I put a small piece of rolled up gauze under the nail, put neosporin in there, and taped down the gauze so it wouldn't move. The idea was to keep the nail lifted a bit at the corner and to keep it from from digging down in the skin. At first, it was very hard, but after a few days, it got easier to do. After a few weeks, the nail had grown out a bit and it was better.
  2. Good Morning Ladies, looks like we have some busy days here. I was able to get up this morning and go walking. It is so hard to get out of bed and exercise, but it did it. I'm discovering there is a correlation between nights when I have a lot of dreams and my ability to get up easily. I had lots of weird dreams last night, but I woke up fairly easily . Dh is taking the day off today, just because he has some time to take off before the end of the year. We have school to do (Fridays are pretty easy - verse quiz, spelling test, Latin quizzes, reading, math and science) and then co-op this afternoon. tonight we're getting a sitter and going out on a "Married People Date". You know, nice dinner (Indian food) and then Lowe's to pick up a replacement window shade, and then Costco.
  3. We write them when the giver is not present to thank in person.
  4. I understand. Four of my five kids are extroverts and I'm an introvert and they bug me, too. I do quiet time sometimes. Other times, if the weather is reasonable, I make them stay outside. Sometimes I lock the door. They've all stood there right outside the sliding glass door and begged to come in. I closed the curtain. Now, they can entertain themselves all right, but usually not alone. They have to be with the neighbor kids to be truly happy. My one daughter, though, my 4 year old, is more introverted and is awesome at entertaining herself. She can sit coloring for an hour and be happy. She'll sit there with her dollhouse and little people and I won't hear a thing from her except the chatter going on in her play. She's quite an anomaly.
  5. My kids bicker constantly. I just separate them. They drive me insane.
  6. Hi all! Well, the day is up and running. Better day than yesterday. At least a better start than yesterday . School is underway. Doing snack break now. I'm going to try to get some baking done this afternoon for Thanksgiving. I got a pumpkin sheet cake recipe from someone that I'm going to try. It has a cream cheese frosting. Can't go wrong with cream cheese frosting.
  7. I have it done at the salon. But I don't go to a high end swanky salon, so it's not that expensive. I hated doing it myself and I didn't get very even coverage because I have a lot of hair. The gal who cuts my hair suggested that if I were to do it myself, then I should use 2 boxes of dye to get more even coverage. I figured that if I had to buy 2 boxes and since I hated doing it anyway, I should just have her do it. It is very close to my natural color.
  8. Ok, I was curious about this thread, read the first couple pages, sat wondering to myself if I'd seen any "typical" diners here in California and concluded that the California version of a diner, at least where I live, is the taco truck.
  9. Yes, I think. Although I saw a package of pfeffernusse in this grocery store and they were nothing like the peppernuts I know. The name "peppernuts" is a corruption of the word "pfeffernusse" I believe.
  10. My kids argue and fuss in the car. They happen to love Jim Weiss, so I just pop in Treasure Island, Robin Hood, The Three Musketeers or Tom Sawyer and it's quiet.
  11. I make an assortment of cookies and then package them up and give them to the neighbors. We are of Mennonite heritage, so we make peppernuts, which is a traditional cookie, though there are as many recipes and types of peppernuts as there are Mennonite grandmas. Mine are small, hard, crunchy and spicy and are yummy eaten by the handful with spiced tea. About the only thing that all the recipes have in common is that they are small (about 1/2 - 1 inch in diameter).
  12. Happy Tuesday! We just have school today. Nothing else special. Hope everyone has a fantastic day!
  13. Our bathrooms get cleaned once a week, wiped down whenever I remember or when company is coming.
  14. We had taco soup. I love that soup and it's easy: Brown some ground beef with taco seasoning, add the following un-drained cans: kidney beans, pinto beans, black beans, creamed corn, regular corn, hominy, diced tomatoes, and 1 package ranch dressing mix. Heat till hot. Serve with fritoes and shredded cheese.
  15. I don't do it all. I don't work for pay, we homeschool, but homeschooling can be (if the kids cooperate) very time efficient. My kids do have quite a bit of free time, if they choose, like my second son, to do his seat work at 6:30am when he gets up. They have no homework to do in the evenings. I have five kids, but they only do one sport per season. We don't do anything else, really. Well, Awana. We're busy enough, and things do get sacrificed. My house is a wreck most of the time. I would like to exercise, but I can't fit that in. I feel busy and overwhelmed most of the time, but I think most of that is because my kids are high maintenance and I'm an introvert, so just living with them wears me out.
  16. It was a slip of the tongue.... Sort of.... I admit to getting these men mixed up at times because I guess I don't pay close enough attention. And their names are both Doug. They both are controversial, and do they both hold to similar theology? Or not. Sorry about that.
  17. That's great. We're doing Memoria Press Latin and it's not easy, but my boys absolutely do not complain about doing Latin. I actually think they kind of like it, though they would never admit it.
  18. Ok, I just have to share this.... because it has just "made" my day! Ok, today is Halloween...the one day of the year a kid gets an absolute haul of candy, he just has to wait till it gets dark... And this morning my oldest son sneaks into my room with the step-ladder and once again steals candy (hidden high up in the closet) from our soccer candy sales. He leaves the step-ladder in there and then eats the candy and I catch him from the scent on his breath. And the step-ladder he left, that I know I didn't. And the wrapper, that he insists he got from Awana. I told him if he didn't 'fess up quick and tell the truth (he lies and lies and lies, even when confronted with all the evidence in the world) he wasn't going with us tonight to the Fall Festival. He did tell the truth, and has been suffering the consequences for stealing and the other lies the rest of the afternoon. He'll go with us tonight, but will have to shadow us, and not run off with his friends. It's just unbelievable to me that today, of all days.... when he knew what he had to look forward to tonight....
  19. It just sounds better, and Mississippi is much more fun to say, and spell. "One-Indiana ...." Just doesn't do it. No offense to anyone who lives in Indiana.
  20. Oh yeah! I completely agree. Regarding ages, my conservative parents took me to Star Wars, in the theater, when it came out in 1977 and I was 9 years old. I loved it. That was the beginning of my lifelong "affair" with Harrison Ford. ;)
  21. I am not terribly familiar with VF and all their teachings. I've seen and admired the catalog, I have a feel for what they represent.... But I guess my question is, (in response to a previous post) does Wilson say that following his teachings will guard you against moral downfall? Did he specifically say that? I guess , I'm wondering because if he did specifically say that if a person lives that way, they are immune from moral downfall then you can say that his teachings don't hold water. But my impression is that he is just espousing a certain philosophy, results not guaranteed, then.... That's just what it is. A different way (they think better way) to live, but we're still all sinners, susceptible to the same sins. Does that make sense?
  22. Jean, I'm glad your washing machine is repaired. No more beating the clothes on rocks, down by the river, huh? Lol! Today... School! Tonight, Harvest Festival! That's all. Easy day!
  23. Dd had this awful Justin Bieber t-shirt that I gave to Goodwill. She asked me what happened and I said I didn't know where it was, because, honestly... I didn't know where it was. At that point in time. I did eventually come clean, though. We teach our kids that if your intent is to deceive, it's a lie, and I want to set a good example, so I told her I gave it away. She was mad for a while.
