  1. The new Rick Riordan book was released October 7. I had put a hold on it when I saw it was coming out. It arrived at our library from another library in the system and we picked it up last Thursday (our library is only open 3 days a week and the book requests arrive Thursdays). So, 16 days after the publisher released it, DS had it in his hot little hands. He got to crack the spine on the hardcover, and I didn't have to spend $20 on a book that was read by Saturday. I, too, love our library system.
  2. DH informed me this morning that his nose was stuffy. Which we all know will soon develop into a scratchy throat, then aching all over, with lots and lots of whiny sighs.
  3. I did that!!! I went straight down the middle, like a reverse mohawk! DH asked what was wrong when I said "Oh NO," and he saw the look on my face. He laughed; I cried. He always wants me to go shorter.... He was a very good sport about it, and doesn't bring it up, thank goodness! Your DH should be grateful that if you were going to have a big oops, it wasn't while doing his other idea!
  4. Hey, that's what I wanted to be when I grew up! I wanted to do 3D computer animation. It wasn't a huge field back then, just beginning. I went to university, majoring in Fine Arts (Film and Video) in our small city. Before my third year, I was offered a job at a local TV affiliate doing graphics and animation, making a very good starting salary. While there I learned more: TV, computer video editing, print. I supported us while DH went to school. His career meant moving places with no TV (or need for graphics of any kind, on occasion, lol), and we decided together that I would be a SAHM, but over the years I've used that knowledge to freelance doing web design, print design, logo design, etc. So you just never know....
  5. Then just... No thank you. You could offer to put an ad online for them? My parents are divorced, and the last time I was at my mom's, she was discussing her dining room furniture as though when she downsizes, I'll take it. Um, no, I've got my own... Then she was talking about how lucky I'll be when I get my father's set someday, especially since it's quite valuable. I said something rather flippant about it someday being worth even more when I sell it. She was shocked. "You'll sell it? You can't sell it!" Because in my 3bdrm 1000 sq ft house, I'll be able to enjoy THREE dining room suites?!! I think we just have to get used to our parents' emotions clouding their common sense.
  6. Our 85 lb lab cuddles with me on the basement couch while we watch tv. It's the only furniture he's allowed on, and he's never tried anywhere else.
  7. I knew exactly which movie you meant (well, not the name). Totally would have described it the same. I may or may not have seen it....
  8. I've heard of airlines that do round the world tickets. It requires planning, because you can only go one direction - you can't go back, even a little! ETA: of course I realize a trip around the world requires planning! I just meant that you have to be especially careful of longitude ;)
  9. My boys have half-hour lessons. My younger DS requested 15 minute lessons :) So I spoke to our teacher, and basically I pay for an hour and she divides it up as she sees fit.
  10. I'm so sorry! :( I do agree with your gut feeling, though.
  11. http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/hot-chocolate-favor-idea-for-my-winter-wedding/#axzz3EOLoCOIN Third picture (disposable icing bag) with snowflakes instead of hearts? That's my suggestion!
  12. Oooo, triple chocolate hot chocolate! Too corny?
  13. There ya go.... Pinterest must have ideas!
  14. For your party, I would do something like a hot chocolate pack and..... Something else.....
  15. I've noticed lately that the boys are bringing home a chocolate bar and bottle of pop :p blech. Last year ds9 had a snow fort building birthday party. I got each kid a snow block maker that they could use at the party, then take home.
  16. I'm in the camp of give it a try and see how it works out. One night a week wouldn't be a deal breaker for me, unless over time you can see it just isn't working. If it was 2 or more hours past her bedtime, I would say no.
  17. eww You are one brave woman for cleaning that out!
  18. Oh my. I'm a little off today. It's there. Just not the cover I expected. Alphabetical order reveals all, as usual. *more blushing*
  19. *blush* There may have been one, but I don't have it. I have The Minds of Boys and The Good Son. I must have borrowed the other from the library. Sorry!
