  1. I purchased these from Kohl's a few years ago. They are very comfortable. I wore them on a vacation to Las Vegas and we walked everywhere. No breaking in required.
  2. Well, my grandma had a very similar pair and she wore them with a thin bobby sock.... She was in her 80's the last time I saw her wear them.
  3. I love xylitol. It's pricey, but a little goes a long way. I order it from Amazon.
  4. Keep in mind that there's a lot to do and see in Fredericksburg. http://www.getawaymavens.com/fredericksburg-va-one-day-is-not-enough/
  5. My sons financial aid package came in with $3500 in Federal Direct Subsidized loan and $2000 in Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan for a total of $5500. I believe this is the max federal loans for freshmen. They provided a link to www.studentloans.go for further info. Hth, k
  6. I found this article helpful. https://www.fidelity.com/viewpoints/personal-finance/college-529-spending
  7. I always buy my kids POP TARTS when we go on vacation!
  8. My Mother-in-law received a rather large inheritance and mentions frequently that she has plenty of money. So Dh and I asked her if she would help with braces and she was happy to pay for them in full. We are grateful and thanked her repeatedly for her generosity.
  9. I experienced the same symptoms after eating a strict vegan diet for an extended period of time. I have altered my diet but still cannot eat the quantities I used to.
  10. Nope. I drove a 20 year old Civic on a similar trip a couple of years ago. It had 116k miles on it. I have a cell phone and towing insurance. Hubby checked air pressure and fluids before I left. Car was well-maintained. No worries.
  11. My oldest doesn't sleep in his bed. He sleeps on top of it. He wraps up in his favorite fleece blanket. Needless to say, I've bought the cheapest xl twin sheets from Target for his dorm room. I am looking for advice on a reasonable mattress pad. Any advice?
  12. Ksva, you are not alone. I minimize my dh's parenting too. Yes, my marriage is stressed. It is what it is.
  13. When dh worked on commission, January through March were the "no extra spending" months. It wasn't as hard to be thrifty after Christmas and during months that we didn't do much venturing out due to weather.
  14. 5000 per kid here, no matter what the treatment. Oldest had Herbst appliance, youngest had palate expander. Price included all aspects of the braces including retainers (traditional upper and c permanent lower) and two year follow up. It was a swanky practice. I've had a permanent lower retainer for 25 years and have had no problems with it and honestly, I rarely floss under it with the threaded floss). I still wear a retainer at night.
  15. My nephew transferred into UW and I recall that his notification came late in the summer. He was really sweating it out. He loved the school and graduated with a degree in software engineering.
  16. I just saw this on slickdeals...http://slickdeals.net/share/android_app/fp/148429
  17. We've had Tevas and they have held up well. I've purchased them at a discount from sierratradingpost.com.
  18. If it smells okay and I was going to cook it thoroughly anywsy, I'd use it. Disclaimer: I ignore a lot of food safety rules and no one in my family has suffered for it. The only time we have gotten sick was from food that was purchased at a restaurant.
  19. Our family always orders water with lemon when we eat at restaurants. We are cheap. I only drink soda as a mixer. . My kids prefer iced-tea as a treat. They will have a soda with pizza or burgers. We drink a fair amount of water. I grew up with soda as a treat and unsweetened sun tea as a staple. My best friend considers soda a staple. Her hubby drinks a 20 oz. Coke with his breakfast. Her kids drink it all day long. It's there family culture. The sugar they consume floors me!
  20. 250,000/20 years. We sold our 89 Accord with 240,000 miles on it. I still drive my 92 Civic with 168,000 miles on it. Oil changes religiously, timing belts replaced every 60k.
  21. They sell single-serving size packs at Costco. 😊
  22. Um, you make the same exact food that I do...with the sole exception being the breakfast veggies. I chop a bag of mixed peppers and a red onion. Oh, yeah...we keep hummus on hand.
  23. 75% of my family (parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, cousins children) are obese or morbidly obese. I am familiar with the health implications of long-term obesity. My neice is a recovered anorexic and we have learned of the long-term affects of that as well. My OP was about normalizing morbid obesity and I compared it to normalizing anorexia (my reference to pro-ana movement) in the face of long-term health risks. Not one negative thing about appearances... I inferred that the clothes look great on Mrs. HoLiday. I will be asking the moderator to close this thread.
