  1. I made copies of educational cds (a multiple audio cd series) to listen to on the road/let my children handle. I didn't want to chance scratching up or breaking the originals. I have copied both cd's I have purchased and cds borrowed from the library. All copies are destroyed once we are done with them. One time, I had to replace a library audio cd and it was very expensive.

  3. That's ridiculous! My sons attend a public high school with 1500+ students. It has 5 counselors and they have scheduled meetings twice a year and an open-door policy year-round. Their office hours are 8 am to 4pm. These hours make it possible to met with students afterschool hours. My sons have a great relationship with their assigned counselor. She reviewed my oldest sons college ap before we submitted it. The counseling staff hold evening presentations for the parents of rising juniors to go over PSAT/SAT prep opportunities and college/career planning. It is a crying shame that there are some lame counselors out there. Many parents don't have a clue how to navigate getting their child into college (mine didn't) and the missed opportunitits due to the unqualified/unmotivated staff is a crime.

  5. I am a grazer. I eat fruits, cut up veggies, and a shot-glass full of nuts throughout the day. I often skip either lunch or dinner. I never want seconds as I think my stomach has shrunk due to my grazing and I really don't like feeling stuffed. I try to only eat snacks that are packaged individually. If I want oreos, I split a 6-pack/lunchbox size package with dh. However, if my mom makes two dozen homemade gingersnaps, all bets are off and I will eat and eat and eat.. Fwiw, I'm doing Whole30 with my dh and I really miss grazing and hate eating three large meals required by w30. By dinner, I have no appetite so I just eat a small dinner. Dh is doing well on it...so I'm sticking with it. 8 days to go.
  6. Adult Protective services were helpful (I think they are county-based). My FIL is in a private assisted-living home in Whiteford, MD. It is a beautiful home and he shares a spacious room with another man, so it is affordable. Most residents have memory issues, but are ambulatory.) Here is a listing of places.   7. Mine are in ps, so ymmv. Oldest studied and did homework, played League of Legends with 4 of his schoolmates, did some chores and got toget her with some of his friends that go to our local community college. Youngest watched Netflix on his pc, studied and did homework, performed at an open mic Friday (he's a guitarist), rehearsed with a singer for a future show for 4 hours on Saturday, and hung out with his girlfriend and her family for a few hours in Sunday. Today we are hosting a study group as midterms are here. They are 18 and 16. As a family, we spent a lot of time looking at screen. Oldest is going to be studying game design at GMU in the fall--he's been using a PC since he was 2, anyone remember Reader Rabbit?😠BTW, oldest is not a total slug. He has 12 hours+ of winter guard rehearsals every week and weekend competitions from Feb to May and he maintains a very high gpa.
  8. Made carnitas in the pressure cooker last night and spaghetti squash with meat sauce tonight. Salad and veggies every meal. Missing lunch here and there because I don't have an appetite mid-day. I feel a bit lighter. Not to keen with the lack of regular "output" KWIM... 16 more days to go! I would kill for a bowl of fiber one!

If the OP's dh retirement is received in a lump sum and perhaps loses its protected status, I'd check into rolling it over into an IRA to keep it as a protected asset.
  11. I heard on the news that Tennessee pays out $1000 per year of cc maxing out at $3800 per student and it's funded by the state lottery. Here in Virginia, our cc tuition is probably about $3800 per year. I have no problem with a state deciding to do this and funding it by lottery or state tax.

  13. I'm a weirdo, I lose my appetite and end up just eating the same thing everyday.I'm a week into Whole30 and I couldn't care less about eating dinner. If it weren't for my family, I'd be done with food for the day. These high-protein low-carb meals satiate me and I haven't really liked any of the new things I've tried yet. Maybe I just don't like cooking and meal prep makes food unappealing...
  14. I second this suggestion. Just a teaspoon or two of canned coconut milk added to my coffee makes it so much more rich and satisfying. I used to drink two cups of coffee with half and half every morning. Now I am satisfied with one. I treat myself to a second in the afternoon. I use THai Kitchen, unsweetened. ETA: You can buy it a Walmart.
  15. No, I am doing Whole30 with my dh. I would rather go back to Eat to Live/vegan diet. I will probably stick with the Whole30 for the 30 days and then work my way back to vegan. I am doing the Whole30 with my dh to help him stay on track. Of course he's lost 5 lbs sincd 1/1, the only thing I've lost is my appetite...I really don't like meat!
  16. Beans don't give me gas. I do a quick-soak with most dried beans and drain off the water and rinse the softened beans before cooking them. However, my dh gets gas be matter what. Bean-o or charcoal tablets seem to help. We are currently doing Whole30 (no beans) and he seems a lot less gassy. His mom has stomach issues as well so I think it's genetic. I also read about blood-type diets and his type indicates a paleo/grain-free diet and mine indicates a vegetarian diet. He's an "O" and I'm an "A".
  17. I've been doinG Whole30 since for less than a week. Here are my loves and hates at the moment: Love: coconut milk in my coffee! Chicken and apple sausages rock. Hate: Tired of eggs for breakfast and this former vegan cannot stomach meat for breakfast!
  18. Gain weight. The obese women in my family don't have any noticeable wrinkles. :-p
  19. Dh gets the flu shot at work. The rest of us have never had a flu shot. My only year mom got the flu shot, she got the flu. I can't recall anyone in my immediate family other than my mom having the flu. I am not super human as I had strep throat from the age of 8 every year until I was 24 when I had the worst case ever. Never had it since. Soon after I had my last but of strep, the warts that plagued my dh disappeared. Immune systems are weird.
  20. I would be reporting this person to the principal. What gives her the right to discuss medical treatment with your doctor behind your back?
  21. Veggie hummus wrap Spread 2-4 tablespoons of hummus in middle of wrap, layer Lettuce, diced tomato,red onion, sprinkle feta cheese and fold wrap. Sometimes I add leftover grilled chicken and reduce hummus.
  22. Dh and I are doing it 1/2-1/31/15. Dh needs to lose 25-30 lbs. I would rather do Eat live for six weeks, but I have committed to doing Whole30 with him to see if it works for him. He has stomach issues and I'm hopino the grain/legume-free aspect of Whole30 resolves them.
