  1. One year, I made my bachelor uncle a chili and cornbread kit. (All the spices and non-perishables bundled up nicely. It was along the lines of those "gifts in jars".) Then I included a book called Uncle John's Bathroom Reader (cause my uncle was named John...and because...chili.) It was a hit...but maybe not for everyone. ?
  2. IIRC, there was a lot of innuendo with those old ladies and their banter.
  3. My 10 year old loves that movie -- but I would not have shown it to 7 year old her! Heck, I watched it once, after reading the book, and said to myself, "Nope. Never again." At the least, the school should have sent a note home beforehand and offered alternative activities.
  4. I said "other." I think it could be fun...but scheduling it might be a problem since so many people might already have plans. But was the wedding themed or costumed? Or just a regular, ol' wedding that happened to be on Oct 31?
  5. I do during school time. ;) During normal conversation, probably not as much.
  6. I have a Hamilton Beach Flex Brew single serve (keurig knockoff). You can use k-cups or scoop your own ground coffee. I use the McCafe cups in mine. (Bought it at Walmart.) https://www.hamiltonbeach.com/flexbrew-single-serve-coffee-maker-49974
  7. Laffy Taffy, fruit tootsies or Airhead!!! Snickers or Twix. But let's be honest...I'll eat pretty much any of it. Except those orange-wrapped, old-fashioned taffy.
  8. I do but I live in a small town on a fairly busy street. We don't get many door-to-door people, just the occasional meat truck/salesman/religious person. All politely go on their way when I decline whatever they're selling. I'd NOT open my door to someone who seemed agitated or whatever. (I have a peephole.)
  9. You could give it to your son? Maybe he'd want it for a fiancé, eventually? (But perhaps people think that's bad luck; I don't.)
  10. From The Greatest Showman: "The Other Side"
  11. I did the DMV a month ago, showed up at 7:30, and there were at least that many people already waiting. Some of them had camping chairs like they were camping out for Black Friday or concert tix. I finally got out of there at noon...
  12. Thanks for all the replies. I'll see what the store has next time I stop in. Do your kiddos just use washcloths or has anyone bought a back scrubber (like on a stick or whatever)?
  13. DD is bummed about recent bouts of bacne. Her facial routine is under control, but we don't have a plan for her back/shoulders. She wears racerback sports bras all the time, and she's breaking out along those lines (so def encouraging her to wash them more often.) Do you have a fave shower wash or soap for teen body breakouts? Do you use other acne products on back/shoulders (toner, creams)?
  14. Love love love all these adorable puppy pics!
  15. Yes. There's a teacher's guide (with answers) and a student book.
  16. OP - did your dentist tell you to have your child lay with her head handing off the bed (to do the turning)? That worked pretty well for us (for being able to see the roof of her mouth).
  17. Sigh. And DD and I just found the perfect house online, not too far from here but closer to DH's work. And waaaay out of any price range we'd ever have (unless, you know, lottery).
  18. We only had to turn for 5 weeks. There's definitely a learning curve. Once or twice I slipped with the key and jabbed DD. (Oops.) Also, if your DD has a strong gag reflex, the fiddling in her mouth might trigger it (sometimes it took a little jiggling to release the key, and that few extra seconds set my DD to gagging.)
  19. I have a kiddo for whom the multiplication fact don't stick. I use all the tricks I can. School House Rock song for 3s (3 is the magic number...). Finger trick for 9s. Some rhyming/mnemonic devices for 6x6, 6x8, 7x8. I also allow the chart for multi digit multiplication and long division.
  20. And another thing: for my DD, the pain of the spacers was more than when the appliance went in. (We also had spacers fall out twice and had to get them replaced.) Is the expander upper or lower? DD has a lisp from her upper expander, which she's a little self-conscious about.
  21. My DD12 just finished her 5 weeks of upper palette expanding. (Now she doesn't have to turn the key nightly; she still has 2ish months until they remove the appliance.) She also had 4 teeth removed the week prior. DD had some soreness that Tylenol relieved. Also, one thing we weren't prepared for: the pain shifted. For a few days she felt sore in her sinus area; then the soreness shifted to molars; then her front teeth hurt. Idk if that's normal. She ate yogurt for breakfast when it was sore....but her soreness wasn't overwhelming or every day.
  22. Someone else already said this, but I'll second it: a pick punch. What about those little multipurpose tools that fit in a wallet like a credit card?
  23. My brother (age 36) just had his eyes done a couple of weeks ago. He didn't have lasik, but a different procedure. The worst thing for him was before surgery. He'd been a contact wearer for so long that the shape of his eyes had been affected. He had to wear glasses only for several months to let them readjust before surgery.
  24. If I wanted to go to the event, then I'd go. I think the kids may be big enough to know to keep their distance from Auntie's friend because we don't yet know him. It's been 7 years? IDK, I'd be tempted to give it a try.
