  1. What are your go-to, home treatments for hives? Aloe? Ice packs? I had an allergic reaction last Friday which covered my arms in itchy blisters. Five days of Prednisone and Benadryl calmed those down, but I still have a flat, red rash. It's actually spread quite a bit (now across my stomach and inner thighs) and it itches like the dickens. I'll probably see the doctor again tomorrow, but in the meanwhile, what do YOU reach for when you're itchy? This is how it looked this past Monday. It's less visible now, but more widespread:
  2. I've never done that. I think -- were I compelled to pray for a stranger -- that I'd do so in my head. I've never had someone ask to pray for me, either. There is an acquaintance that periodically FB messages me, asking if he can pray for anything specific, but I generally ignore it or decline. It feels overly personal.
  3. I've never heard of this. At the risk of being rude: how bizarre. And at the risk of offending: that seems right up there with snake handling and such.
  4. 11 year old: an art book, candy, a funko pop from a fave movie (light fury), sketch pad 13 year old: a book, candy, a funko pop light fury, nail polish stuff, temp hair color Both are getting (to share) the newest Spider-Man DVD. Mine will still egg hunt with a bunch of young cousins on Sunday, after church. Mostly candy and loose change in the eggs. 🙂
  5. Another vote for blue! Love the style of these rooms!
  6. I make the decorating decisions here, as well. I ask DH but his eyes kinda glaze over at paint samples and such. Besides, I've been training for this! Why else do I watch all this hgtv?! (On the flip side, my dad is also a forgiveness over permission person. My mom came home from work one day a couple of months ago to find he'd partially removed a WALL between the living and dining to make it more open. I think HE'S been watching too much HGTV since retiring, haha!)
  7. I found some pics of beds in front of window. Long curtains: And then my suggestion, which is skip curtains altogether and go clean lines with blackout shades. Though, because your windows are smaller, a headboard would help. Shades: The only thing I find clashing in the original room photo is the crisp white in the bedding and the cream/off-white (?) walls. I'd tie the blue and cream together with bedding. Something like:
  8. Has he read Holes? Super quick and easy read - with a movie. Seconding Ender's Game and Ready Player One (books with movies!)
  9. I'm glad I'm not the only one that smells the food when it cooks overnight. When we stay with my parents for holidays, my mom always cooks a roast or something overnight. I always wake up in the night, smelling it, but my parents don't! It leads to me having some weird food dreams, too!
  10. Following. We have a super-sweet stray that we feed, and the kids love on her when outside. I'm day-dreaming about moving into town to a place with no yard (and an HOA that won't allow wandering cats). :( I told the kids that I'll try and hold off as long as the kitty is hanging out with us.
  11. We're looking around at homes and the differences in HOAs is baffling! One neighborhood I like has parks/trails, a clubhouse and pools = $130/month, which I'd consider. Another has nothing but common area maintenance =$300+/month. That's crazy. At least give me a pool to use! 😉
  12. This sounds like my younger DD (almost 11). She has some skin issues and is on Differin. Even though she knows she's supposed to use her cream, I literally must call her to my room each night and apply it in her face for her.
  13. I'm going to get this for youngest DD. She bathes daily, but I wonder just how thoroughly she's washing because she still gets oily hair.
  14. I'm with you on this. Cleanliness I require but personal grooming of hair is...personal. And optional. My oldest (almost 13) shaves, and has for years. My youngest shaved last summer (like 1x) and decided it's not worth the trouble. I go out of my way to let them know that, while shaving is socially the norm, many women and many cultures do not. (So they may get some peer pressure to shave but from me they get "body hair is normal but shaving is an acceptable thing.) (Mini rant: I have not and will not suggest my girls groom eyebrows. I don't like suggesting that a natural part of their face is wrong/unpleasant. They know I groom my brows, but unless your child is teased for a unibrow or something, I think that can hold off a few years.)
  15. Golly, my kids would stink if they only bathed 1-2x a week! Nightly showers are the norm in my house. I like the idea of a shower cap, so hair doesn't have to get wet each shower.
  16. We've been looking at houses lately and surprised that most new builds in our price range have all the bedrooms upstairs (and only a powder bath downstairs). I don't mind so much, but DH, a cancer survivor, feels a main floor master is better for possible future recurrences.
  17. That's fabulous! Very well-done, like a fairy queen!
  18. Pretty sure that if there's a line, that crossed it... yikes.
  19. How strange. I think GF needs to start advocating for herself, in the sense that (if) she's a legal adult, she should start collecting her own vital paperwork to have accessible when needed. (And if I were her, I would keep it private from my parents and maybe even stored at a friend's house.).
  20. To each their own. And because I make awkward and inappropriate jokes: I've heard placenta goes well with some fava beans and a nice Chianti...
  21. Every time I see this thread's title, I sing a lil' bit of this...
  22. This week I've got: Shawarma, hummus/pita https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1017161-oven-roasted-chicken-shawarma Chimichurri chicken and rice. https://www.budgetbytes.com/chimichurri-chicken-rice/ Cajun chicken pasta. https://www.budgetbytes.com/one-pot-creamy-cajun-chicken-pasta/ Crock pot baked potato soup
  23. I bought some like that from Amazon a few years back. I tried to remove them to paint my cabinets recently but couldn't get them off, not even prying with a knife! I was amazed. Good thing I like them where they are!
  24. This is awesome! I might adopt this policy. My kids do a few pages of Pentime a week. Most of my 5th grader's written school work is in print. Oldest DD's (7th) is a sloppy mix of both.
  25. Fruit salad is always a winner. Just a big bowl of strawberries, pineapple, grapes, etc. Maybe a small tray of veggies (cucumbers/cherry tomatoes) or cheese cubes? But what you've got sounds great!
