  1. Assuming that the policy information you were given is correct the policy if in place when brother died is always going to be collectable. It does not matter if the new term premium is paid. He is already dead so policy is collectable. You need to contact the company directly and deal with them. If all you were told is true your mother has a right to collect as the named benificiary. No one else. I hope this clears things up. You need to made it clear that you are your mother's representative.
  2. They review prima in latina christiana quite a bit. Since you already own it, I would either move through it quickly for an introduction then start First Form or do Prima at a slower rate with younger child and first form with older. Unless you already own Latina Christina -- then prima for younger and latina older. I hope this makes sense.
  3. I make it Laura's way. Lots of sauce. Bacon or ham is a nice addition. Cracker crumbs --ritz or club-- are good on top.
  4. :grouphug:I would bake the bread and enclose a friendly note. I would love to say confront them--but I never could. But I would plaster a smile on my face and be friendly. Some of them must know they are behaving horribly and may feel trapped. Lets face it your former friend is not a nice person! The best thing to do is make new friends.
  5. :grouphug:Great job on the weight loss and Happy Birthday!!! I also hope you get good news soon!
  6. I would go with the new option 3.:001_smile: My dc's enjoy working on different topics with different texts. Plus if he finds a topic difficult this provides a bit more time for him to understand it. Instead of forging ahead. Key to is a good foundation and started now could serve as pre algebra. The first books are quite basic.
  7. I would probably put LOF in the mix and keep going. My dc's really enjoy it. I think it tends to pull everything together. Where to start is up to you--my dc's wanted to go back and do fractions an decimals more as literature :lol:then anything else. They wanted to have the full story! AoPS is really good too.
  8. Since you can combine scores from different testing dates on the SAT ( something I recently learned:)) maybe that would be a better test to aim for. That way she could become familiar with the whole test then concentrate on one section each time. This means she can keep her best scores without the bad ones affecting the final score. Also I wonder if taking the other sections essentially for"practice" might actually produce better scores due to lack of pressure. I have been wondering about this for my daughter. The pressure of the timer plus an unusual location might be too much.
  9. I would contact Apologia and ask for the list. I can't believe they don't have one prepared or at least have someone who knows. I have contacted them about the science program -- super helpful.
  10. I picked Charles. The name Charles Edward just flowed too well for me to pick anything else! All the names are good with the middle name so you can't go wrong! I picked Elizabeth because it is my favorite! Dh doesn't care for it. So no Elizabeth here. Charlotte Mae is pretty too. They are all good.
  11. :grouphug:Since you quilt make your own featuring your family. Hang hers, the wedding, and the family together. I wouldn't take hers apart. This is coming from someone who had huge mil issues. But she is gone now and I do sometimes feel slightly guilty and then I remember when she did ....... Anyway someday someone might want it...your neice?
  12. Megan- I can't figure out how to do a private message or I would. Maybe our families can meet at Fountains Abbey? Let me know when-- if it would be good. My dc's are 12 and 14. It could be really nice but I don't want to complicate your holiday.
  13. It is the e reader kindle that I can read in the car not the fire. I don't like reading books on the fire in general much less in the car! I want to add we no longer go every week. At least one week off a month. No more evening service for our family too. We really try not to add too many responsibilities to the day--dh is not the pastor. So our drive is stress free compared to yours.
  14. We are in S. Yorkshire. I doubt it has anything to do with the car. Dh has had many leased cars here--full range. I get just as ill in luxury as I do in anything else! It is the roads with the slight slopes I think. In the States curves are usually flatter. Here you can be slightly tilted on a straight. Throw in curves and hills-- I am not feeling so good!
  15. :iagree:Homemade soft pretzels are really hard to transport and keep nice. I did it once to a home ed foreign country food activity. Covered with clean dish towels. Worried the whole time! The cookies etc are soooo much easier!
  16. Do you eat a good breakfast before you leave? We have a long church day with a drive(just motorway) too and it is much easier when I eat first. No one else in my family does--sleep till the last second is their motto! Can you do something to stay busy in the car? I am prone to motion sickness in the UK-- all the continual curves really bother me. I knit and for some odd reason can read a kindle usually. Keeping my mind off the fact that we are going really far to go to church helps. I want to add no problem with motion sickness in the US. I hope you find a way to feel better on Sundays. I do understand alot of what you are going through--maybe that will help. I just can't believe that there is another American home ed mom stuck in a car in the UK on Sunday mornings! :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:
  17. Just wanted to add the I wish there had been more on walking. We walk as a family 5 to 8 miles a day. This takes approximately 2 hours. So it is a major activity for them.
  18. My dc' s both are doing latin and Biblical Greek. They do German with dh because he is fluent. Dd is doing French on her own. She will also go back and finish her Gaelic( Scots) course for a credit at some point. She should end up at igcse level at least for the above. Latin she will complete or Henle or Cambridge series-- currently doing both. If my son completes his Latin -- I will be thrilled. Greek to any skill level -- great. As for German survival on a holiday is the aim for him. He does not enjoy his language studies at all. The odd thing is he is reasonably good at it. We have not found a good German curriculum and this is our weak spot. We are using a combination of the vocabilary lists, the German made simple book -- which we like, and gcse review materials. The main part of are curriculum is conversation with dh. I would also love to find a good inexpensive German course. Just a recommendation for a good grammer workbook would be lovely. I hope this helps some.
  19. My kids could be anything. Due to dh and I not having the same blood type. I have been looking forward to doing the science experiment to find out. They have it at rainbow. I think it is $10.
  20. We still meet our home States requirements by being registered with an umbrella school. Not required to really. We prefer to. We also do our annual testing through Seton when we are visiting there.
  21. In the UK it can be quite difficult to get a family room for four. We use Premier Inns because of this. I am sure a cot can be added. You have a lot planned. I would consider flying between the UK and Germany. I do think the Eurostar is starting a london to frankfort route next summer. There are several low cost airlines to chose from. For London I would plan on 3 or 4 days at least. To get over your jet lag and to really enjoy the city. The museums are free and in Germany you pay quite a bit. You can also get a pass for the Tower, Hampton Court, Kensington Palace, and a couple of other historical attractions. Great value. Cardiff can probably be done as an overnight. Berlin we have done as a really full day. Zoo plus Brandenburg Gate area. Munich is lovely. We went to Salsburg from there. The castles too. Worked really well but we rented a car. Rick Stevens books are really good. He also has Dvds. We have watched him on Pbs too. I hope you have a great time!
