  1. I call my mother by her first name. I do also call her Mummy or Mother, but she doesn't always answer to that (read: she rarely answers to that), so my sisters and I all call her by her first name if we actually want a response.
  2. Are they overnighting the replacement to you, so you'll still have it by tomorrow?
  3. Here's a link for a deal for 50% off 6 months of audible. http://m.travelzoo.com/entertainment/more/-45-6-Months-of-Award-Winning-Audiobooks-Half-Off-1637545/?utm_source=localdeal_us&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=1637701_html_nationwide_deal%3a0&utm_content=1637701
  4. Glad it worked itself out. Dp drinks a lot of caffeine, and he's tried to wean himself off in the past, but at this point he's accepted that it's a valid treatment of add for him. And I wanted to say that it sounds like you have a really wonderful open relationship with your dd and her bf.
  5. Yay! But your experience explains why I hadn't seen it in stores the last few years. I moved several times, so I assumed that the stores just weren't carrying it, but they must have stopped making it for a while and then brought it back.
  6. I just bought some recently. Is it really discontinued?
  7. I made this for the first time this morning. I added diced apples and a mix of spices rather than vanilla (would have put vanilla in if I had had some...) and it was delicious. Eaten enthusiastically even by those who don't like oatmeal.
  8. I don't understand. You wrote a check, but didn't have enough money in your account to cover it? And you're mad because your landlord cashed the check? Why does the landlord have two checks of yours anyway? And if the money isn't there in your account, even if you wrote a check, that's not paying on time...
  9. I'd believe them to be fine, as long as your fridge is cold (refrigeration at supermarket tends to be colder than household fridge), and as long as they don't smell when you open them.
  10. Pear sauce is delicious. Made just like applesauce - cook down the pears with a little water, then food mill to extract seeds and skin. I like it plain, no need for added sugar or spices. Pear sauce can be boiling water bath canned. I've made a wonderful chopped apple-pear sauce that I love too. The original recipe was for apple-pear freezer jam, out of the ball blue book, but I adapted it a bit. Peel, core and chop apples and pears, cook with spices (cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg) and maybe a little sugar, and then freeze. I've also canned pears in light syrup. One year I did them with a cinnamon stick in each jar and they were great.
  11. It's not recommended for home canners to use a hot-fill method, but it's actually perfectly acceptable practice, and used by commercial companies all the time. The key is that the product is acidic enough, and that it is truly hot enough when it goes in the jar (190 degrees I think).
  12. Is it just a hot fill then? If that's the case, the amount of time cooked doesn't matter, it just needs to come to a boiling point and then be above 190 when going into the jar. Do you invert the jars after you fill them? (And hot-filling jars without processing is not recommended for the home canner, because I'm sure someone will point that out...)
  13. I'd cook for a shorter period of time. The boiling must be to reduce the water content, so with a smaller batch, you have a larger surface area and more evaporation. (I wouldn't worry about giving flavored time to marry, as they'll do that in the jar anyway.) I would try that before leaving out the tomato paste, as you'll probably change the flavor some if you did.
  14. Recipe for the spiced peach honey please? Peaches are just starting here and I'm not looking forward to the hours of peeling them, but it's worth it for the cupboards full of canned peaches in the winter.
  15. The Teaching Company rotates their sales, so every course goes on sale at least once through the year. Don't ever buy "retail" price. If you're on their email/mailing list, they often send out additional coupon codes, such as for $10 off, or free shipping, etc. I've also received emails for "every course on sale."
  16. If I've been eating out frequently, then I'd want something with LOTS of vegetables. Any of your choices sound great, though, and the company is so much more important than the food.
  17. "I can't understand what you're saying when you whine." And then give him your full attention when he repeats himself. Hopefully knowing that you're fully listening the second time will help him not whine, even if he doesn't really get the difference quite yet.
  18. On a recent road trip, we listened to Enchanted by Alethea Kontis. I just finished listening to The Fault in Our Stars which was really good. Ender's Game (and then Ender's Shadow)
  19. When buying kindle books, amazon will automatically use your gift card balance first, and then charge the remaining balance to your credit card (if applicable).
  20. Looking at size charts online, the waist size is the same, unfortunately. I will grab some of the training pants when I'm in town ( though I don't particularly like them) and maybe try some of the specific character ones mentioned above. Hanna andersson xs looks like it will fit, going on the online size charts, but $18 for 3 pairs of underwear is just so expensive. (And I know they're wonderful quality, but we'd like to have a lot of pairs...)
  21. Any suggestions of where to get underwear that fits 1 or 2 yo boys? D is not quite 2 yo, though his 12mo shorts are still loose on him (especially without a diaper), and all I can find are underwear sized 2T/3T. If we fold over the top one time they will at least stay up, but they are still really big. I remember having this same problem with his older brother, and got him some cute underwear from Talbot's, though they have since shut down their children's shop...
