  1. We had some flurries on Sunday (in Maine), and I know my sister (in upstate ny) saw a few flakes then too. But nothing that stuck.
  2. Last week ended up all wonky due to some house guests and random extra food being made, but it all worked out in the end and generally stuck to plan. This week I am working every day (I usually only work three days), so I have planned with that in mind, taking advantage of things I have in freezer. M - Pizza (takeout from a local place that has a Monday soecial), salad, sautéed apples T - matzo ball soup, two potato latkes, applesauce W - Thai turkey meatloaf, mashed potatoes, veg, Apple crisp (all already made and in freezer) Th - roast vegetable baked ziti (made double for dinner tonight so it's all made) F - creole white beans and chicken, rice S - taco stuffed shells, salad Sun - shrimp scampi, bread, veg
  3. My aunt and her husband did this and both lost a good amount of weight. A smoothie of sorts with chia seeds and kale (and I dont remember what else). They both found it to be a relatively painless way to loose weight.
  4. Today - was supposed to be pork with fennel and apples and roasted potatoes and peppers, but we got home late, so it was leftovers M - butternut squash soup, popovers, salad T - Cajun chicken pasta (adapted from Budget Bytes) W - chickpea broccoli burritos Th - spinach artichoke pizza F - tacos? S - leftovers (roast chicken for Saturday lunch)
  5. Like Crimson said, I often say I went to school in western Mass. But that's more if I'm bringing it up, or it naturally comes up in conversation. If asked directly "where did you go to school/college?" then I answer with the name.
  6. Me too, though my suggestions for places to look are remarkably similar. Cabinets, under beds/couches, inside the washer/dryer
  7. Spinach pepper quiche, jalapeño cornbread, tomato and feta salad, sautéed apples.
  8. I have had good luck downloading prime movies/tv episodes on my kindle for watching offline. Once you start watching something, you have 48 hours to watch, or you'll need to connect back to the internet.
  9. Yes, book sooner rather than later. Car rental prices will go up as the date gets closer.
  10. Super cute! Hope your dd's event goes well.
  11. When I am on top of things (read:rarely), I like to have the following in the freezer: Muffins Baked oatmeal Egg cups (frittata/crustless quiche) I bake them all in silicone muffin cups so they are easy to pop out (esp. Important for egg cups, but also useful for baked oatmeal), and then I can put whatever combination in the toaster oven fir 5-10 minutes in the morning. I vary the kinds/add-ins of each so it doesn't get too boring. Leftover pancakes/waffles/French toast also freeze well and can be reheated in toaster oven. I don't like breakfast burritos, but I have made them occasionally in advance for dp and dss. It's super easy and convenient to wash and cut a bunch of fruit and keep in the fridge. Melon and pineapple would last all week, strawberries last several days. (Assuming they don't get gobbled up the first day. I know lots of fruitatarians that would go through it even more quickly that way.) You can pre-chop (and sauté) omelet veggies, as well as cook bacon or sausage and grate cheese to make omelets/scrambled eggs go faster.
  12. We use Cozi as well. We use the pay version (bc dp liked it so much), though we used the free version for a while and it was fine. I love that it syncs with his phone, and he especially loves the reminder feature (he has no sense of time). I also use the list feature on it to keep grocery lists, etc. This would be a better feature if dp would actually add to the lists, but the app isn't magic.
  13. I have fairly strong emetaphobia. I hate to vomit, can remember every time I have vomited since I was 3 or 4 years old, and like your dd, can will myself NOT to vomit. One thing that has helped me incredibly is a prescription for Zofran, an anti-nausea med. I can get panicky if I think I might be getting nauseous, and then I convince myself that it's getting worse, even if it isn't. Zofran can offer a placebo effect for me in those instances. But also, having the Zofran always around means that I am less worried about catching a stomach bug from a kiddo, and thus have no problems comforting them, cleaning up, etc. (I take meds incredibly rarely, and am generally the last person to offer meds as a solution, but for me, just the peace of mind of HAVING the meds if I shoild need them, is HUGE.) One upside of the emetaphobia is that bc I hate to vomit, I don't have a very strong gag reflex. And, now that I have less fear of catching stomach bugs myself, I have an incredible amount of empathy for sick kiddos. Does baby spit-up bother your dd? (It never bothered me, as it was normal and not contagious.) As I've worked with kids, I think I was also desensitized by spit-up, and then as they got older and actually got sick, due to the close bonds, I was more concerned for the kids' wellbeing than my own. I don't know how severe your daughter's phobia is. I know for me, it was never a fear of vomit, but of actually vomiting. Once I could take the fear of future vomiting myself out of the equation, I was able to deal with (or at least accept) other people vomiting. (I remember a time growing up when one of my sisters was sick and I was miserable, probably panicky, and trying desperately to block it all out. its this really awful memory for me - and I was the healthy one!)
  14. 4 yr old and I made a quick batch of blueberry jam the other day. No tomatoes yet (at least not in canning quantity). Re: peaches - you do it because canned peaches are the food of the gods. And because you forget how much work they are until you are elbows deep in peeling them, at which point there's no turning back.
  15. We are in the process of moving. I pulled up a box of cords from the basement labeled NO FIT in dp's handwriting. I asked him about it. Yes, it is a of full of cords that he went through to make sure they did not fit any electronics in the house. And then once he was sure they didn't fit anything, he boxed, labeled, and stored them. (And yes, the box somehow made it to the new house too.)
  16. Do you have a Marshalls/TJMaxx near you? I've gotten Sperrys there for around $40.
  17. My library has a great selection, so I am very lucky there. Like the pp, I do get my Kindle First book every month. I also have a subscription to Kindle unlimited, which isn't free ($10 a month), but they do offer a free trial, so if you haven't done it already, that would be good for a month. I used to spend more time getting the free books on Amazon, but in general, I've found you get what you pay for. Searching the library website, and putting things on hold is a better use of my time.
  18. Ender's Game, especially if no one has read it before. Great story to listen to together.
  19. Dss and I completed W2D2 this morning. We both do a lot of walking (and I've done lots of distance races in the past), but neither of us are runners. So I'm excited to do this with him, plus it gives us 30 min blocks of quality talking time.
  20. I would be Holly. Definitely not me. If I were a 1930s baby, I would be Phylis. If my sister were a 1930s baby, she would be Phyllis. That would definitely have been confusing.
  21. I absolutely adore my Everything You Need case. I keep my license and credit card in it all the time, and there is space for another card and maybe some cash. (There is also a compact mirror on one side, which may interest you. I've used it all of one time, when someone else was looking for a mirror...) I ordered my case for my iPhone 6 as soon as I ordered the phone, as I loved the previous case so much. It does make the phone thicker, obviously, but not as thick as other wallets I've seen. And the phone screen is always accessible, as its a case not a wallet. This case seems a bit more cheaply made than the one for the 4 and 5, but previous cases held up very well. (I haven't had this one long enough to say.)
  22. Eater for a pet turtle (because he eats!) Pizza and Crash for pet cats Casserole for a stuffed animal
  23. I don't know specifics for your state (I barely know specifics for my state, I just know who to turn to for specifics), but one thing to research is getting him a Case Manager. This person will be able to help him navigate social services available, get health issues taken care of, and work with him on education/career goals.
  24. Search for "walk thru" gates. A good friend has this gate: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000JJDI0G/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?qid=1427036915&sr=8-4Ï€=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70&keywords=walk+thru+gate&dpPl=1&dpID=51QYcmrwZkL&ref=plSrch (Sorry for the awful link; I'm on my phone...) The opening is small enough that even if your other kids forget to close it, a wheelchair wouldn't fit through. You may not need the pet door part, but there are other "walk thru" gates that may work. I would worry about a safety gate being sturdy enough to hold up against a wheelchair, though.
  25. Chicken pot pie for dinner, with cherry pie and banana cream pie for dessert!
