  1. I understand that it is set up different, I think I would go with DM if I had to pick now. It just seems that if the method works, why not stick with it, it may make transcripts more complicated, but I guess I still don't see how the different scope and sequence would cause that many problems. I personally hated geometry and would rather have it spread out a bit instead of the focus of a full year.
  2. It seems like most people talk about switching programs for higher math. The Singapore method is working really well for my son, he is only in level 2b, but if it works I figured I would stick with it. Is there a reason people switch?
  3. Could you list the courses on the transcript without years? List math completed: algebra 1, geometry, algebra 2, precalc, calculus? Just don't say when completed. The whole transcript would need to be done that way. I don't know how you would list grades though.
  4. My son thinks it is an awful place where he would forced to be away from me all day.... I have explained it but tried not to make it sound scary. He just does not want to be away from his family all the time.
  5. My SIL and a "friend" got into this on Facebook. "Friend" de-friended he r over it. She had taken the dog thing too far comparing herself to a mom, and then told SIL that she was what was wrong with the world because she has so many kids. It was ugly..... I treated my dog like a baby until we had a baby. I wanted a child so much, the dog filled the void until we were ready. I know many people who can't have children who treat their animals like babies. I don't think that having a dog is anywhere near the work or commitment having a child is, but if someone has no kids, they either don't get it or they are filling a void. Either way, I just ignore it and don't let it bother me; orbit really gets annoying, I can block their posts or leave the room.
  6. Well, my almost 4 year old can't/won't count to 10....I don't know which. She likes to pretend she does not know things so I never know what she does know.....kwim? At two she did not know the quantity 3. She did not appear to know any quantities.....but again, I don't really know! She is not a performing monkey ;)
  7. They kept some information on us. They took our body fat measurements in 5th grade. They timed all of our sprint's, miles, counted sit UPS, push UPS amd pull UPS. If we Improved over the uear we got an A, stay the same B, got worse C. Some schools use stepometers, kids have to get a certain number of ateps per class to earn an A in PE.
  8. I don't think everyone needs to know how to read music or play an instrument. Some people have no interest. I think people should have an understanding of genre and style, famous and influential artists from classical to rap. If you want them to learn music theory for singing or playing instruments, they need to know the bass and treble clefs, the notes on the scale, types of notes and rests, time signature and how to identify it in a piece you hear. More advanced would be key signature and scales.
  9. :iagree: We are starting this for 2nd grade and continuing with Spelling Plus. Workout.g plus is super easy to use amd if you get the dictation book, you just open and go. All lists are arranged by rule.
  10. Have her read. That is the best way. Give her books below level to increase speed. Give her books.at level to build fluency and give her books above level to push her. Have her read out loud to you, daily. Have her tell you about what she has read to her self, nothing formal, just ask her what it was bout, what she liked or disliked, who her favorite character was. Just have a conversation with her to show interest in her reading. My 6 year old is required to read silently for 15 minutes a day, any thing he chooses. He reads aloud to me from his grammar lesson every school day and we do read alouds at a higher level. Sometimes I just have him read the firsy paragraph of each chapter then I take over. Your kids need to read more than 15 minutes, bit a little bit of reading daily OS what they need. You cam get the Johnson O'Connor's research center vocabulary series if you want good vocabul:tongue_smilie:ary builders. I love these! And they are cheap.
  11. We went to a wildlife EXPO with a kids animal show. They had an opossum and told us they don't get rabies. They will still bite, so stay away, but you don't need to fear rabies.
  12. Pick up some School Zone math or kindergarten workbook at Walmart or Target. They have lots of clocks and money work pages. They also do basic math facts. I had one called Math 1-2 that we used for kindergarten. I taught him number bonds after we did that book and he tested into SM 2a. It comes with a fun cd of games. It is manipulative math on the computer. He moved beans around as he added large number of beans. It was great drill, without being math drill. Both of your kids could play and have fun. You.could get a full curriculum to go with it and use the workbook to fill in, but I felt like we got so much put of that one $10 book that we needed nothing else. It is bright and colorful, lots of pictures and lays put the concepts of time, money, geometry, and fractions very clearly.
  13. I clean our main bathroom once a week. Our other bathroom....when it needs it. Both get cleaned before a large group of guests come, the main bathroom for one or two. Our second bathroom is in my room, I don't let many people use it.
  14. Well, I am currently sitting through the third performance of The Boyfriend....so Sur La Plage: What a lovely day, what a lovely day for a dip in the sea. Oh, what fun it will be, won't you come and have a swim with me.
  15. When I was in high school we went on a mystery trip fall break. We had no idea where we were going, just a packing list that said: sleeping bag, clothes for mild to warm weather, etc. Our parents, however, new exactly where we were going and had contact numbers. We did not know until we stopped in San Antonio. If the church did not tell me where they would be, I would not let my kids go.
  16. My cousin made "attacks" one time....three stacked tatertots with cheese - Kraft singles I think- over th top, then bake.....they were VERY good!
  17. I have picked up a lot of random books from library sales. We have a pretty extensive selection now. Is there a bigger library nearby? Could you find out when they jave their sale and go shop? If they are for your older student there is abpretty neat Time-Life Ancient Civilization set. We have collected about 6-8 of those. We also have a few from a series called Digging Up the Past and others from an Usborne set.
  18. I never took a trig class. We did PreCalc with trig. Trigonometry was in all of our advanced math classes.
  19. What we are doing is in my signature. We have no reading curriculum, DS had completed that in k. We used some phonics flashcards for review early in the year and are focusing on spelling and reading aloud. We used 100ez lessons and the Bob Books.
  20. One more thing, pleas please please inform the teachers of your daughter's needs. We have had so many parents not tell us their child had Aspergers. I used to work with a dance teaher who also helped develop and administer IEPs for the school district. She could identify some issues amd help us with in class coping strategies. Now, my SIL's mother runs a special needs preschool. She helps us with strategies for dealing with kids. We have found that a lot of parents will tell us after we have had the kids in class for a year. Many times they are embarrassed or scared theory child will be teased. We don't tell the other kids amd we can prevent teasing by knowing how tohelp. Most theatre/dance/gymnastics or other extra curricular teachers have no training in this area and no one to help. We need help from parents.
  21. I hope you find something! I know that the many kids we have had with varying degrees of Aspergers (not sure if I spelled it right....sorry) and autism have done very well in dance, theatre, and voice.
  22. Cover the sequins in clear tape. It cuts down on the itch and irritation and is not visible from stage. You van also have them dress a song before they line up, or put Kleenex under the straps until they go on stage.
  23. I have some friends whose 9 year old just finished chemo for osteosarcoma. I don't know if it is what your friends child has, but it was a long year of prayer and hospitals, but she is in remission. I will pray that your friend's child has equal success with his treatment and minimal side effects from treatment. I hate to see babies so sick.
  24. There are many online dance suppliers: Discountdance.com Dancedistributors.com Justforkix.com But you might ask her teacher. There are many suppliers that only studios can order through, they may have a better selection.
