  1. Not to mention there were not a lot of mass shootings in AU *before* the Port Arthur massacre. Reading data is very complex, IMO. I was reading that there were fewer mass arson attacks/murders before Port Arthur than after. I'd be very wary of drawing any conclusions from that because arson attacks--as with mass shootings--are very rare.
  2. Look on Etsy, maybe? You might be able to customize, too, and not pay an arm and a leg. Only an arm? lol
  3. We don't do teen vitamins, just adult multis. This is what we like. One pill, kinda big, but it's the only brand that those of us who can swallow pills use: https://www.amazon.com/Natures-Way-Multivitamin-Potency-Food-Based/dp/B003UEH7CC/
  4. Can you explain? You had issues with anemia due to your cycle and THEN you had a clot (because of taking something for your period or?) ? When did the blood thinners come in?
  5. We have an old computer with a non-working disk drive AND a new computer that doesn't even have one. I was considering starting youngest ds on TT because it seems perfect for him but CDs seem kind of old school at this point. Has anyone heard about the online 3.0 version happening anytime soon? (It's mentioned on their FAQ page but nothing on the news page, etc.) Any suggestions for something online that your 4th-6th grader "like"? lol
  6. Yes. My dh never ever took the hints to get me the wedding band I wanted so I bought it myself. LOL (Btw, it's our 25th this year and we are going away for the weekend for the first time EVER in our marriage so I'm not complaining too hard. But I did want that ring for our 20th--and years before--so I just bit the bullet once our anniversary passed.)
  7. Thanks for this link! I think this is what I inherited from dh's grandmother (at least similar) and I love this pan! I've been wanting another. :)
  8. Dh is looking to do this, but we're curious about the process. We are not hagglers so I wonder if this is easier? lol
  9. Have any of you fizzed something other than water? I know you're not supposed to, but I'm debating between SodaStream and Drinkmate because the latter lets you carbonate anything that doesn't have pulp in it: https://www.amazon.com/Drinkmate-Beverage-Carbonation-Maker-Cylinder/dp/B018K1C3KK/ (I want to carbonate teas or water + juice, etc. not necessarily stuff with syrup you add later)
  10. I tried to read the book twice and the overabundance of pop culture references just drove me away. Dh liked it, so I will await his review of the movie.
  11. Your house is adorable! I would like any of the paint choices you gave so I'm no help! lol
  12. I can't seem to get a handle on HOW to water and keep them. (I've never had one, just want to know what to do!) All of my daughters want their own little succulent. lol
  13. The Devil Wears Prada... Blessthefall... Disciple... Underoath... Just to give you some options. Family Force 5 is one of our favorites, more variety and some screamy dance music that is just fun. One fun thing to do is play some of this while they are in the house and see if they come running to see what in the world you're listening to. lol
  14. I'd say that if they like heavy metal to show them some alternatives (there ARE Christian heavy metal bands but we don't tell our kids they should only listen to Christian music) and just let them choose. Our kids, I think, have appreciated that we've looked into the different music styles that they've enjoyed (usually temporarily) and helped them discover other artists. I honestly don't think those bands were Satanic. Here is an article that you can take or leave with an interesting perspective. https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/plato-pop/201210/black-sabbath-and-the-secret-scary-music
  15. I think the KEY in any IRL meeting would be having a moderator. Just from leading different groups I have seen how easy it is for one or two strong personalities to take over the discussion or go off on tangents, etc. I say go for it--with a firm plan!
  16. So we took our 18yo dd to the dentist because she's been having pain on one side and I can SEE a cavity on the other side. (molars) She basically has cavities in most of her molars, one tooth is really bad and may need to be pulled, and she needs a better x-ray on the bad side because her wisdom tooth might be coming in sideways or there is some other issue causing so much pain. *sigh* We only recently got dental insurance so our dentist visits have, well, lapsed. She is the first of our kids to have a cavity, though (that we know of), and I don't have any cavities at 46. I have NO clue about whether resin is better than whatever other substance they use and the dentist also seemed to think we could fill some now, some later. That may be to offset the costs since resin is only covered 50% by our insurance whereas traditional fillings are 90%. I actually want what is best if her teeth are this bad, so cost is only a secondary issue, which is nice to be able to say. lol So is resin now preferred? Also, when it comes to oral surgery, is that usually covered under dental or medical? (This is probably obvious but it's been 2 decades since dh and I had our wisdom teeth out and none of our kids have had issues with them yet.) Oh, and what do they do to fill in the space where a tooth is pulled? She is freaking out and I really don't know what to tell her.
  17. I know, it's so ridiculous. Just once it would be nice for manufacturers to take into account how real people actually use their products and what they NEED when "upgrading" and changing them!
  18. Eye primer and Maybelline Facestudio Master Conceal (comes in a tube, only need a tiny amount).
  19. Fuji Flush! https://www.amazon.com/Fuji-Flush-Game-Card/dp/B01IC9RWQA
  20. No answers, just saying thank you for posting and hugs. My middle dd sounds just like you, exact same experiences with meds, supplements, down to the amitriptyline working for about 6 months and then being less effective. *sigh* Of all the things she's tried, Benadryl has been most "effective" and I am not convinced it isn't because it just makes her sleepy and the sleep helps. She takes it with rapid release acetaminophen or even Excedrin migraine and it's the best we've got, but only helps about 50% of the time. She has put off college because of her suffering. :(
  21. Popping in to ask if any of you who read Annihilation are looking forward to the movie? When I read it I felt like it was one of those rare--for me--books that could make a better movie. http://www.indiewire.com/2018/02/annihilation-first-reviews-alex-garland-natalie-portman-1201926330/ Courtesy of one of those lists someone here shared about great reads for 2018, I just finished Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson (teen/YA mystery) and really enjoyed it! It's a series or trilogy and I will continue. Next up: The Fire Sermon by Francesca Haig (first in post-apocalyptic trilogy)
