  1. I'm just looking for a comprehensive source--website, book, even an app--that you find most helpful. I realize we have "master thread" posts but I'd like a one-stop resource to recommend to a friend as she starts homeschooling high school for the first time and really wants to get a system in place. (I've been doing it rather piecemeal for a few years now and could probably use some organization myself!) Thanks for any recommendations!
  2. That is a huge change that would rock me off of my foundation for a while! Seems totally normal to want to cry for a good long time. Hugs!!
  3. Try Bolthouse Farms smoothie beverages as a base with maybe a little yogurt and lots of ice. Their Protein Plus chocolate has 16g of protein in 8 oz. Use less if that's a bit too much protein, add some almond milk or yogurt if you want, 2-3 tbsp? of coffee and ice. They make a coffee protein drink you could use, too. https://www.bolthouse.com/products/beverages/ Add banana or other fruit or spinach, etc. as she gets used to it.
  4. Yes!! The bolded is almost word-for-word what they are telling homeschoolers at our cc! Ugh. I'm glad it worked out for you!
  5. Have you literally been wearing the shoes for years? lol Because you may need new ones just to get proper cushioning. (I don't find Skechers to be all that awesome for support or cushioning, honestly. I would go to a running shoe store and get fit with something better!)
  6. I am dealing with the same thing at our community college. They don't seem to understand how homeschooling works here in Ohio at all--what is the parent's responsibility and what limited role the local school has. They keep asking for the school district to send them something that shows our kids graduated. Umm, *I* graduated them! I have the transcripts, our excusal letters, and yearly test scores! Going around and around with them.
  7. I have gray hair, but it's less noticeable because of my hair color. I have colored my hair for years, but only because I hate the shade of dirty blonde that it is. No one can ever tell that I've colored it because it's subtle enough. And it doesn't really hide my gray. I think it really depends on one's natural hair color! I'm turning 47 in the fall.
  8. If I had her husband I'd probably be depressed enough that it ALL felt overwhelming and I'd need extra help from some decent people. Bleh. ? I agree that personality may also be in play here. Some moms need more help due to total lack of confidence. I'm the oldest of 4 and have 6 of my own. I can only say I really felt overwhelmed after having our 3rd when I had postpartum depression and dh was working a ton. I've never had family helping or had many sitters, no cleaning or household help. That doesn't mean I'm a supermom. If I'd had an offer of help at various times in our family life I probably would have said yes for a short, finite period of time! lol And I don't know any families that sound like the OP, even though I know a few that would be considered quiverfull.
  9. I love this stuff. It's not just for women of color! lol My hair has a straw-like consistency sometimes and this helps a lot without getting greasy at all. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Shea-Moisture-Raw-Shea-Butter-Restorative-Conditioner/167344065 My second favorite is this: https://www.ulta.com/biolage-exquisiteoil-creme-conditioner?productId=xlsImpprod6490100 Good stuff.
  10. Well, Celestron is generally a good brand (I have one) and that model is reflector (which is better in many ways than refractor). I don't know what the AZ designation is, but it looks like a similar model can run from $200-400 or so. https://www.telescopesplus.com/pages/search-results/celestron astromaster 130az telescope?q=celestron astromaster 130az telescope Does it come with any extra eyepieces or filters? Those are always handy.
  11. Thank you! I appreciate the car complaint site! Will keep looking.
  12. I use this one and like it. I put it in fruit smoothies and can barely tell it's in there. I got it originally to help my dd with her gut issues (and my own bloating, which I definitely think it helps with). Haven't been using it long enough to notice anything other than bloating relief, but I think I will see some positive effects with my joints, etc. https://www.amazon.com/Further-Food-Collagen-Peptides-Protein/dp/B01M3Q4086/?th=1
  13. We may need to get a SECOND car within 6 months and this is catching us at the worst time! Looking at reliable used cars and can't find Hondas, Toyotas, or Hyundais, which we prefer, in our price range. I never find the old Volvos, etc. that are recommended here.
  14. Absolutely this. You don't want to be stuck with a laptop that freaks out trying to run Photoshop.
  15. We rent but would do the same with a mortgage: 1/8 of the rent and 1/8 of the food budget since there are 8 of us. (We let our young adults pay less when they first get a job as they build up their savings and earn a couple of raises.
  16. I was skimming through the guidebook and saw a reference to Calvinism and was like, "OK, I don't even know where he's going with that but he just sold me a subscription." and I signed up. LOL
  17. Oh my gosh, how did I not know Great Courses Plus was a thing?!! Do you have access to everything they have? *Edited to add: What about any print materials...can you download (free or paid)?
  18. I would probably get something like this: https://www.containerstore.com/s/square-hermetic-glass-bottles/d?productId=10003575&q=oil dressing bottle
  19. Yes, this is my favorite.
  20. Oh thanks, I hadn't even thought of Champion or Old Navy! Thanks, ladies!
  21. That was fun! Pretty accurate to me, thanks!
  22. They are all so FLIMSY nowadays! What briefs or boxer briefs do your guys like? It's time to stock up for my 2 youngest boys and Hanes and Fruit of the Loom just seem cheap and wear through quickly.
  23. I just ordered a pair of dressy-ish ankle pants from Loft. Size 16, which I didn't even know they had. I've never bought anything there before but saw they were having a 40% off sale so took a chance. I. Love. Them. I got a top, too, and am very pleased! These are the pants in case anyone cares to see. They are so comfortable and I can't believe I look decent in "skinny" pants!! https://www.loft.com/loft-plus-skinny-bi-stretch-ankle-pants/464405?skuId=24677103&defaultColor=6181&catid=cat3750040
  24. Oh my gosh, I am getting this. Thanks! I have always stored my blades on a top shelf with a bright post-it note warning that there are blades on it. LOL!
