  1. This ketchup is awesome. I used medjool dates and left out the cinnamon, allspice, cloves. http://meljoulwan.com/2014/03/06/wf2-recipe-kickass-ketchup/ It keeps long enough that it's worth it to make, IMO.
  2. What is in it? I didn't love salad, really, until I found a yummy kale salad that has an amazing dressing. I will die if it's ever discontinued. LOL
  3. Has anyone started drinking kombucha and had GI issues helped (that you can clearly tie to the kombucha as opposed to something else)? My dd has had lower left abdominal pain for a couple years now and NO ONE has been able to give her a definitive answer about what is causing it. It's not reproductive (went through ultrasound, laparoscopy to see if it was endometriosis, and on bc pills--no change); it's supposedly GI but no tests have confirmed anything and after doing Whole30 and eliminating a lot of foods for a while, she felt NO difference. We are considering the FODMAP diet but she was so restricted on Whole30 that we are very skeptical. We've tried probiotic pills, fiber, and she no longer eats dairy. GI doc gave her meds for IBS attacks and they don't do anything. I'd also be interested to know if anyone else suffers from abdominal pain with NO diagnosis and if anything under the sun freaking helps. Thank you. :( The lack of answers from the medical community sort of shocks me, honestly, but I know the human body is extremely complex. Dd is just so discouraged.
  4. No, but I've heard it before and always think of the line from Bust a Move: Girls are fakin', goodness sake'n; they want a man who brings home the bacon. You got no money and you got no car, then you got no woman and there you are. That's all I got. LOL
  5. I feel bad for the kid. Every person should feel free to give affection in whatever d*mn way they please and not on camera if they don't want to. What kid is going to say no and make a scene on tv?? I think kissing on the lips is fine even though we would never do it in our family. But making him come back for more grosses me out and makes me think Tom's playing to the camera. Not child abuse, but still don't like it. Just my opinion.
  6. The Fact of a Body by Alexandria Marzano-Lesnevich is excellent. I'll Be Gone in the Dark is by Patton Oswalt's late wife. It isn't out until later this month. She spent years investigating the Golden State Killer. Devil in the White City by Erik Larson sort of falls into the true crime genre. His books read like fiction, so well done! Devil's Knot: The True Story of the Memphis Three by Mara Leveritt. I followed this story for years.
  7. I tend to lose mine, so I go to teacher supply stores and get packs of 25 or 50 on sale or clearance. I can just grab another when I inevitably misplace one. What's nice is that I may lose them, but I will also FIND them randomly, too! LOL
  8. The cleaning instructions say to put it in an aluminum pan with 1 inch of a vinegar, water, dish soap solution but at 1 inch, the wire going to the shock plate thing will be in water. That doesn't seem good...do you clean it using another method? Also, what have you found is the best bait? And, how long do batteries usually last? Thanks! (I've already caught one mouse, but then not a thing even after I put it near a shelving unit where I saw a mouse. This morning it was flashing but no mouse. I've had it 4 days but I do think my dry dog food bait had too many crumbs and that might have something to do with it.)
  9. I walk alone, but prefer not to hike alone just for safety unless the trail is pretty short and in a well-traveled area. I have plenty of places to choose from in my area, so I'm thankful!
  10. My kids all cashed in JUST over $800 each in stocks that my dad bought them years ago so we're waiting for forms for that, I assume? We don't invest (except 401k through work) so I have no idea but I'm assuming it's income and don't know what to expect.
  11. We like these, very similar to Clementine's: http://www.geniuskitchen.com/recipe/soft-ginger-cookies-137042 It uses white sugar instead of brown, but I do half and half (I don't pack the brown sugar tightly) and some of the suggestions in the comments are helpful like adding bits of candied ginger or rolling it in Sugar in the Raw for bigger sugar "grains". Good basic recipe to play around with.
  12. Well, good luck to them. I refuse to be all that interested in any option that doesn't tackle health care COSTS, transparency about COSTS in the overall system, and address the role of the RUC in what we have to pay.
  13. We bought Potion Explosion for Christmas and really enjoy it. Next game, bought and played is Red Flags and it cracks us up. Basically like Apples to Apples, only there are cards with good qualities and cards with red flags. The premise is that you are setting everyone up with long-term dating relationships. One person is the judge who is getting matched. Everyone plays two cards with good qualities. Then, in a second round, everyone gets to throw a red flag on the person to their left, and then the persuasion to pick your match ensues. The combos are pretty hilarious. Example: My pick for you..."Owns your favorite museum" and "is a hot barista" BUT..."doesn't know the difference between your and you're" OR My match for you..."Has beautiful eyes" and "you will never get sick as long as you're dating" BUT..."sold your pets on Craigslist" OR This person..."Creates shelters for the homeless" and "is completely blind to all of your flaws" BUT..."has ____ for hands" (and you get to fill in the blank!) *We got the nerdy expansion for this and it's great. LOL The creator of this game also has one called Superfight! which is similar gameplay only you create characters with certain powers or abilities or even problems and the judge has to decide who would win a fight between them.
  14. Oh my gosh, I'm looking at a possible connection to the medication my ds is taking and hair loss--some people seem to think there IS one. A lot of people complaining about thinning hair/hair loss! It's not listed as a side effect on the manufacturer info, but I'm wondering if this is contributing. We think his hair loss started very slowly before he switched to this med, though. (It's Zoloft, btw.) Hmmm, I'm going to have him ask his dr.
  15. Between dh and I there is only ONE relative who started losing his hair in his 20's and apparently ds got the gene from him. LOL He isn't that concerned about it and neither am I--it's his head, lol--but I thought I'd ask if there's anything he can do to slow down the hair loss at least. (Btw, he has had his thyroid tested and other blood tests related to anxiety/depression and nothing turned up on that front, but if there is something he should be tested for I'd like to know that, too. I can Google but since I'm asking in general here...)
  16. I may take a look. I always like seeing who reviews the books and it's an interesting selection of individuals giving it praise. I'll leave it at that. And then the first review I see on the page says, "At last something new that FEELS true." Do you think that the author's conclusions are based upon the *stories* he encountered (that the description calls "experiments") or the social science from experts he talked to (since he's not an expert other than also suffering from depression)?
  17. Be sure to read all the requirements for homeschoolers (if that applies to you since you did an online high school?) because there are more than those for traditional students at Arizona State, particularly in tech/science majors. (Like specific proof that you did lab-based science, for example.)
  18. I see that he left the public school system to develop an online curriculum...is it comparable to any text that you can tell? Also, would you rate this curriculum on the advanced side or better for those who are behind (or both; just looking for reviews from actual users!)?
  19. My primary care doc takes ashwagandha: https://www.vitacost.com/organic-india-ashwagandha-90-vegetarian-capsules-4 (That may not be all she takes, but she did tell me about it specifically.)
  20. None. Get counseling before even trying. If you've been spiritually abused (I don't truly know what that means unless someone explains explicitly) to the point where one's emotional needs are the main deciding factor in one's choice of where to worship, serve others, and practice one's faith, then I think counseling is the way to go.
  21. Yes, read his others! I LOVED Britt-Marie Was Here. These 2 lists are pretty good, actually, for other suggestions. I'm reading Etta and Otto and Russell and James right now and it's good, but not as humorous as Backman's books. https://www.huffingtonpost.com/off-the-shelf-/8-books-to-read-after-a-m_b_11914906.html https://media.bookbub.com/blog/2017/06/01/books-like-a-man-called-ove/
  22. So, my husband is on his way right now to pick up our daughter from work; she's being sent home because she is sick to her stomach, lightheaded, and had diarrhea (not sure she disclosed that to her boss, lol). Around here, we keep hearing on the news to go see the dr. at the first sign of flu. A local newswoman died suddenly from the flu or complications of the flu after having just "a slight cough and not feeling well" according to her husband. Ummm, if that's all it takes to need to rush to the dr. isn't everyone going to be going at some point this winter??? What do doctors DO for you if your symptoms are mild? Some of these people dying seem like they have a cold and then are in the hospital and dead within 24-48 hours. And saying no Tamiflu for certain people. I don't get it! But I don't want to be that poor parent who doesn't do enough. It's very confusing to me and as someone who does NOT usually take kids to the dr. for a cold or even flu as long as the person can hold down liquids and isn't listless, etc. I feel unsure this season. What advice are you being given about this? (I'm really not super stressed, but now that dd is coming home possibly sick I want INFO. Going to CDC website now...)
