  1. My kids request pasta salad with veggies and chicken or some other meat every single time. I mostly just make ahead stuff rather than make meals from scratch at the campsite. Last time I put together in a big baggie the ingredients for chicken fried rice with veggies, then just threw in a pan, fried a couple eggs in it and added some soy sauce.
  2. I love this game! We have the app version on the iPad and it's fun. I assume it's still available if you want to try that!
  3. We have and/or have played most of those. I love Labyrinth! Good memories. ? My kids play Betrayal with dh or friends all the time. We have the 2nd one as well. I like both Codenames and Codenames Pictures.
  4. I get really tired of professionals (and others) *insisting* that the right diet is 80% of losing weight. Well, I could try any of the dozen or so popular diets--I've done that in the past!--and even if my calories are low it does not matter. I HAVE TO EXERCISE vigorously 3x a week at least. Not for a long time, but exercise is what does it for me and I feel so much better not depriving myself. I have no idea why I'm like this, but I am and no one can tell me differently. LOL So, don't discount the importance of exercise because it *might* be more key for you than you realize.
  5. So if we are vastly Eastern European/European as far as we know, we're not going to get much detail unless there is a surprise? For some reason, my maternal grandfather always said we were part Polish and it turns out in the last few years of his life he admitted that we are actually part Russian and no Polish. WHY I have no idea! So I'm really curious what the deal is. Maybe he loved pierogies so much that he appropriated part of the heritage. LOL I supposedly have Dutch and English as well as German so I'd kind of like to see the hodge-podge.
  6. Oh, Father's Day sales on these are pretty good so if you are considering a gift, now is a nice time to do so! https://www.ancestry.com/dna/ https://www.livingdna.com/
  7. AncestryDNA? Living DNA? Or something else? We really just want to find out WHERE our ancestors come from and probably won't pursue anything beyond that. What do you suggest? ALSO: We both have German ancestry if that is important info in choosing because I've heard there is little detail about Germanic heritage so far.
  8. I'm curious about how many people have had any sort of health issue--whether discomfort/pain or anything at all that concerned you enough to seek medical advice about it--BUT never got a conclusive answer to a cause or cure. Please share your experience! How long did the issue last and is it still occurring or did it resolve somehow?
  9. We always liked Hillbilly Hot Dogs! LOL Also, a good place for burgers, sandwiches is The Peddler. Funky atmosphere? The Cellar Door. This are all in/around Huntington.
  10. I just got on FB and saw this recipe! Looks yummy. https://www.recipegirl.com/cherry-mojitos/ (Sub out the rum, of course, with sprite or ginger ale or...?)
  11. Virgin pina colada. (This one has banana, but same idea. I like to freeze the pineapple, too, sort of like the pineapple whip from Disney.) http://www.eatingwell.com/recipe/249919/virgin-banana-pina-colada/
  12. Since you like space...I just finished the first in a YA trilogy (I think?) called Illuminae (the Illuminae Files series) by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. It's told through "hacked" emails, texts, documents, etc. and I like it!
  13. I use recipes from Skinnytaste.com all the time! Also Allrecipes, Genius Kitchen, RecipeGirl, Tasty.co and the Country Cook. (I follow a lot of these on Facebook so I see new recipes constantly, which is helpful!)
  14. I have been called twice, but received an exemption for homeschooling both times. My youngest is 12 so if I'm called again I probably won't need to ask for an exemption anymore!
  15. My point was that an ethic--regardless of my own personal one--should be more than those two things which happen to be the only boundaries a LOT of parents put on sexual activity that I have personally seen. I didn't bring my Christian worldview into it and detail mine because I think you can have a positive sexual ethic WITHOUT belonging to a particular religion. It seems you agree. You didn't really detail your ethic, either, I notice. I think a lot of people, religious or not, have not really thought through the idea of a sexual ethic except to respond to the most obvious violations like abuse, rape, etc. It has to be more than that. THAT was my opinion, with which anyone can disagree, of course.
  16. The answer to this question lies in having a strong sexual ethic that you talk about in a ton of contexts while your children grow up and teaching our children how to be self-censoring based on their ethics. That doesn't mean kids won't choose unwisely or choose differently from you sometimes, but it's the best start, IMO. If one's "ethic" is based on "as long as you (characters) really like/love each other" and "consent" because one considers sex just something that everyone does with very few boundaries, then of course one's kids will read about all sorts of sexual stuff--with very few boundaries--if that's what they want. Hard to back up the train on that one once they hit 15, 16, 17....
  17. I love your shoes? May I ask what brand they are?
  18. The "No" response that also includes fans or A/C units is for those who do NOT consider their homes to be "air conditioned" but have a few options to stay cool, although NOT in every room of the house.
  19. I don't know what a high/med/low area's costs are so I'll just put us in the middle. Family of 8--6 are adults of varying appetites--and we spend about $225/week for everything, including the dog. Considering that our working young adults eat out on a fairly regular basis, that is a little high. I'd like to cut it down a bit!
  20. I LOVE this casserole. When we make it we put slices of swiss cheese between the chicken mixture and stuffing. Comfort food for sure, and easy!
  21. This is an easy, good "refried" beans recipe for the crockpot. I sometimes blend a chipotle pepper (and a little adobo sauce from the can) with the broth/water to kick it up a notch. A very small notch since we're not fans of too much heat. https://www.artfulhomemaking.com/refried-beans-crock-pot/
  22. We're getting our dog a Seresto flea and tick collar. It's pricey but lasts 8 months and if your dog gets wet a few times here and there (it says you can bathe once a month with it on!) it's no problem.
  23. I feel like I've tried so many brands that I'd rather just slap on a big hat and wear loose clothing with long pants and try not to be out long. We tend to hike in wooded areas. Sunscreen has discolored and ruined so much of our family's clothes and even if it's just t-shirts I still hate the waste! We like to wear wicking type sports shirts in the summer and they are not always cheap. Anyone given up or found a miracle product? (See, I'm still hoping for something that is better than nothing...lol)
  24. Have any of you tried Native deodorant? I keep reading rave reviews of it and want to get some for my dd, but would love to hear something positive from people I don't really know but "know" on the internet. LOL https://www.nativecos.com/
