  1. I haven't gone yet, still waiting on the dishwasher repairman, but it appears I'll be voting in a trailer park? First time voting in this city, and although I know where it is, I've never actually been there, so could be interesting. The polls are open until 7 but we have a ballgame at 5:30, so Mr. Repairman needs to hurry up or he's going to be vetoed. :D
  2. These DVDs also have pamphlet sized inserts (ours do, anyway) that include vocabulary, review, and discussion questions. They are AWESOME!
  3. Now I don't feel so silly for being confused, lol. Thanks for the input everyone! I might go ahead and get The Hobbit and check it out myself, first...
  4. It does! So the book I have includes the entire LOTR trilogy, then go get The Hobbit. Thank you!
  5. We also find a ton of DVDs! We've watched plants/fruits/seeds and plant structure/cells etc this week. There are a ton of Schlessinger DVDs via the libraries around us.
  6. ...but I'm filing it under Gaps in My Own Education. :) OK - I am getting ready to start a new read-aloud with my oldest, and want to make sure I have the correct books and that I understand the correct order - usually an easy thing to google, but I get lost in the vocabulary since I have never read these, nor seen the movies... We are going to read JRR Tolkien. I picked up a book at the library titled The Lord of the Rings that says it's the "complete best-selling classic, now an epic motion picture trilogy." On the spine, it says that this book includes The Fellowship of the Rings, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King. Ok, those 3 are just the movie titles, right? The actual book title is The Lord of the Rings, and it's just one novel? And before we read this, we should read The Hobbit, right? And that's it - just the two books in the series? Thanks in advance. I also have a companion book on hold to get me through it, if needed. :blushing:
  7. My husband did this at the altar... "I, jkwynn, take you, Husband's name, to be my lawfully wedded...wait..."
  8. Persephone Vera Magda(lene) FWIW, I think Persephone is a really pretty name.
  9. This is my son exactly, except he turns 11 in December. We bought the 10's in August, though, for baseball. Hoping they last the rest of the fall season - just another month, come on, hold out! lol On that note, though - if you're looking for sports shoes, I highly recommend Play it Again Sports. Since boys grow so fast, many of the shoes look nearly new, and they're only $6 dollars or so here, PLUS you get a credit ($2, maybe?) for bringing in your outgrown pair. I can't find a deal to beat that one.
  10. My kids wake up asking if the Minecraft update has happened yet. (xbox) Every. Single. Morning. They are so hopeful that this will be The Day. Every. Day. I guess today is supposed to be The Day. This better be SOME update... :glare:
  11. Chiming in from the Clearwater/Dunedin area. :)
  12. Gulp. Far north of the Tampa area, I hope? :willy_nilly:
  13. YES! Our pack doesn't even have a handbook! That's a great idea. The pack we're in also calls the parent meeting a "board meeting" - so lots of times the only people who show up are the den leaders, the treasurer, etc. I've complained about this forEVERRRR. I'm the treasurer, but DH takes DS to the regular meetings. I tried to start a newsletter last year, just a monthly write-up of what's going on that month (where to meet, what to bring, what to expect when you get there) and basic things like the address/phone number of the local scout shop, and what each scout needs to wear for Class A, where to see online pics of proper patch placement, when t-shirt and hat is enough, etc. Unfortunately the den leaders wouldn't even take the time to email me the events/issues that they wanted to pass on the their parents. I don't know of any other suggestions, but I"ll be :bigear: this thread. This is our last year in this pack, but I'd love to help start something that would eliminate the drop-out rate. Half of our new scouts last year didn't even make it to the Christmas party. :(
  14. If you don't want to use a skycap, then I'd go with the "wear the baby, use a cart" option. Most airports I've been to, DO have luggage carts/returns in the parking garage. Admittedly, though, I usually fly out of major airports. If you get there and yours doesn't have them in the parking garage, could you park, wear the baby in, grab a cart, and then take it out to the car to load everything up?
  15. http://organizeyourstuffnow.com/wordpress/table-inexpensive-pieces Or search pinterest for "diy craft table" - there are lots of variations. :)
  16. 1. Chicken and dumplings 2. Starting the school year :) 3. I had a cute joke that my 5 year old made up, but then I got to thinking about chicken and dumplings....:D
  17. We are going in November! We found a lady who rents her whole house (she stays in the bedroom downstairs) for $50/nt, has great reviews, and will even give us a ride from the airport, on bnbair.com ETA: Here's her link, looks like she's charging $60/nt now. https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/4726 I've been to DC twice, once before kids and once when my oldest was just a baby - he's 10 now. And, we are doing US History this year, instead of starting another cycle/ancient history. So excited!!
  18. :bigear: Exactly the same boat, here, so I'll be watching this thread. We know WDW like the back of our hand, but haven't done Universal/IOA yet. As we are almost finished with the last HP book, my 10 year old is going to be surprised by a trip to Potter World. We are going earlier, though, possibly next month. So I might be able to compare and contrast a few WDW/US-IOA things for ya, at least.
  19. Define arm and a leg. :) Anolon Advanced - there's a set of Anolon Pro for less than 200 on amazon right now. Ours is basically the same set, but has different handles. If you watch them, the prices fluctuate a LOT during certain times of the year. Near Christmas it got up around 500 - but we got a set for about 150 - crazy! Our set does have two saute pans instead of just one. We've had ours for 4 years so far, and they all still look new. We don't use metal utensils on them, and we don't put them in the dishwasher (could, but don't) but I've been extremely happy with this set. I would definitely recommend them. I would also definitely recommend cast iron, though. We just don't have a whole set of those. I have a big chef's pan size and a muffin pan for corn muffins. :)
  20. This is from a Jerky Boys album. Prank callers. You can google it and listen to the original (warning: language!) on youtube.
  21. I'll work in the library! DH is in aviation maintenance, but he could fix cars and stuff, too! My oldest could tutor Advanced Video Games, lol. They both love baseball, so we'd help with the sports pantry. :) Put me down for the south branch. :D
