  1. Almost the same here! I'll be 34 in October, and my mother will be 53 in September. My kids are 6yrs and 9mos old.
  2. I have to give a shout out to the Coast Guard, specifically Barber's Point Air Station - I was pleasantly shocked to see the USCG rescuing the Losties. Woot woot for CG aviation dudes! (I'm married to one, so I guess I'm kind of biased.):D
  3. That sounds like a guy who was in a south AL bookstore while we were visiting the in-laws one time. This guy didn't leave when we did, though, he 'fell asleep' (I dont think he was really asleep) in a chair - wearing running shorts - with his leg propped up, very inappropriately. :ack2: It was right beside the kid area... I did mention it to the people who worked there, but we left before seeing what, if anything, they did or said to the guy.

  5. I can only offer a couple of online resources I bookmarked a while back: Elementary Art Lessons K-3 Weekly Music Lessons Maybe you can find some ideas there? Good luck with your classes. :)
  6. Try this link, from the email: http://www.currclick.com/cclick_mothersday.php Looks like maybe it doesn't start until 10am EST? Thanks OP!
  7. I'm not familiar with The Teaching Company - we are just going to start our first homeschool year in the fall. However, if you search on netflix by "browse dvds" then "genre" then "special interest" - there is a category called "homework help" that has lots of stuff that sounds like what you're looking for. I only browsed the science category, though...and didn't see The Teaching Company in any titles, but I'm not sure what to look for exactly.
  8. WOW! If it were me, I might be inclined to call the admin office back and ask them who you should contact for PR-related issues, b/c the local news wants to do a story on the family who won such a great prize and the generous school who donated the scholarship in the first place. (that WOULD make a great news story!) Surely they wouldn't want any bad publicity on the 5 o'clock news, right? ;) Good luck, I hope everything works out nice and easy!
  9. I wasn't at all. But when my son was 2, we moved next door to homeschoolers, and it has always 'felt right' - even though he's in a great kindergarten now, with a really wonderful teacher. We start in the fall.
  10. MEP? I looked at the two abbreviations list and couldn't find what it meant? Mama likes free. :D
  11. We don't start our first official year of homeschool until the fall, so I'm using the summer as a gentle "intro to homeschool" period. My basic plan right now is to just read a chapter of A Child's History of the World and then do some copywork to improve his handwriting, hopefully, at least a little bit, hehe. We might try to make a lapbook or two also, mainly b/c that looks like fun to me, man. :tongue_smilie:
  12. Impressive! My son is 6, too, and he draws stick figures with teeth, lol.
  13. :blush:Thanks! I guess if I had looked in your siggy I could've figured that out, lol.
  14. Sorry, newbie poking in... I don't see AAS in the abbreviations list. What's that? TIA!
  15. I really appreciate all the insight/suggestions! Keep them coming, and maybe I should start another thread for science, lol.
  16. I'm very new to homeschooling. In fact, we haven't started yet, I'm just gathering materials for the fall... Anyway, I think I've decided to use SOTW with my 1st-grader-to-be, but I'm confused...there are 4 books, right? And they last through 12th grade, right? Do you use book 1 for 1st, 5th, and 9th grade and the others in the same cycle - book 2 for 2nd, 6th, 10th grade, etc etc? How does that work? Is it divided in the book? Or do you just go into the subject matter more intensely, or what? Thanks in advance for any clarification...I have a convention/vendor thing coming up next weekend, and want to be clear on things before I get there...
  17. The only thing I really remember about when I tried to run away was that I only got about 4 houses down the street. They had a big dog. With a loud bark. Cured me real quick. :D I felt so much better that it never even entered my mind that there was another route, I guess, hehe.
  18. We're in Weston! We start our first year of homeschool this fall. :)
  19. *WAVE* I just had to pop in and say hey - I'm from Decatur, but moved away in 98, when my DH joined the Coast Guard. Our last station was in Mobile, too. Now we're in south FL, and it definitely "ain't the South" - not the one I'm used to, anyway.
