  1. I loved Grand Inquistor! "You will be Totemized!" (a very bad thing). and "I am the boss of you!" :) We still use those lines on our kids sometimes. ;)
  2. Chicken with Mushroom Sauce. I don't grill the chicken usually.. I just bake them in the oven. The mushroom sauce is wonderful.. lovin' these other ideas too!
  3. I'm coming a little late after I've already done a few things: -trip to post office to send college son his phone charger which he forgot :glare: & return a zappos item (finished) - grocery store (finished) - hardware store to buy to fan switches for BIL to install this week (finished) - buy yarn for ds's scarf project (finished) - spend time warping my table loom with dd's Christmas present - finished napkin project and remove from floor loom - declutter my desk! -clear up the kitchen from a weekend with college kids -laundry so ds has school clothes tomorrow -have youngest read to me when he gets home - it's been far too long since we last did that. -write up my contact notes from yesterday's hospice visits (finished) - clean master bath
  4. praying for all these needs this morning. Lord have mercy.
  5. I loved Zork!! But I didn't discover it until after the first one. But, I don't remember what grue is. haven't peeked at the other answers yet.
  6. Welcome back, Brenda, and congrats on the new baby. I know... it's so quiet. There used to regularly be around 500-700 people just on the GB!? It seems odd that that many people would just throw up their hands and walk away.
  7. I couldn't go someplace where I didn't believe - especially on the fundamentals. I agree that perhaps visiting would be okay - but I also agree with georgiana D that you could create more trouble if your kids get really attached and then you find that you really can't worship there.
  8. what a beautiful tribute you've written. May his memory be eternal!
  9. Briva, I hope you find what you are looking for. :grouphug: I'm sorry the class got cancelled... that is very frustrating.
  10. no advice but :grouphug: . I hope you find some answer SOON.
  11. I haven't read the stockings thread either but I'll bite on this one. Our stockings are pretty average Christmas stockings and we only fill it with small things (matchbox cars, cards, bubbles, specialty candy, little flashlights, chapstick). Ours are various and they don't match. I think 1-2 of them were handsewn by my mother-in-law. One is my husband's, which his grandmother knitted, and the rest were bought. We don't hang them up either we always put them on the end of the bed so they see them when the wake up the in morning. Now the adult kids don't get their stockings filled, just the youngest two still at home permenently.
  12. :grouphug: That is no fun. I'm sorry it just won't go away. I have no idea if its a relapse. No one in our family got strep much until last spring and then my youngest seemed to come down with it about every 4weeks! It was so frustrating. It kept going around his school and he'd get it each time, but then it went into the summer. Ugh. I think we finally nipped it as he hasn't had one in several months. I hope your family heals up soon. I always advocate Airborne when things are making the rounds.
  13. I've seen it several times. Actually the Jesus Prayer is an intrical part of Orthodox praxis, especially in the monastery. The book just made it more popularly known outside of the monastic tradition and/or having a monastic spiritual father. I just watched the beginning again not that long ago. Love that movie. But, I have found that some people had a hard time with the Orthodox mindset presented in this movie. It brought up some very good conversations. One person felt that we should just ask forgiveness once and be done with it -- not feel guilty, etc. etc. Pyrotr Mamonov did a movie a few years ago about the relationship between Ivan the Terrible and the Metropolitan Phillip called Tsar It has the same director and is supposed to very good but its still not available at Netflix. here's a direct link for those who may be interested in watching Ostrov.
  14. I'm sorry you had such a horrid experience... although I think them taking their rolls back isn't so bad. It's certainly the most minor of infractions compared with the other's you mentioned.
  15. The first Doctor had a grandchild: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Doctor
  16. If anyone can rate their courses on Critical thinking, I'd appreciate it. The one I really was interested got a bad rating by someone who teaches the subject: http://www.thegreatcourses.com/tgc/courses/course_detail.aspx?cid=9344
  17. I think there are Church Father's who look at them literally and some who look at them allegorically... and some (most?) who do both. Here is an excellent article on the "Wrath of God" by Fr. Stephen Freeman: http://glory2godforallthings.com/2009/01/15/gods-wrath/ and reading the discussions in the comment box is well worth you time too. He also did a podcast, but I find his voice annoying :)
  18. I completely agree. Totally un-professional. I doubt you'll be the only person complaining either. Sounds like he has some serious self-esteem issues.
  19. oh wow... this is a Godsend thread! I'm bringing the ham tomorrow to my SIL and this looks perfect (and it will keep warm the crock while we travel 45 min there). Thanks!!!
  20. OCA - we break the fast to celebrate Thanksgiving. We'll be with family anyway, so it wouldn't matter. This year I'm going to be even more relaxed than usual. Our college boys are home and one's not Orthodox - and it's his b-day on Sunday. He asked for mom's pot roast. I'm worrying less about food this weekend and working on my attitude.
  21. :grouphug: :grouphug: Those are such hard decisions and the "what if's" can kill you. Just live one day at a time. 56 is awful young and I can see why your family chose the way it did. It's often such a gamble how things will turn out. Your father is a Christian, right? He can pray... This world needs prayer warriors. :grouphug:
  22. okay, thanks - I think I saw it... it's about being a Pirate =- right? so, it's something people have to look for, not just automatically out there?
