  1. I started FIAR last year with my 1st grader and loved it! We tend to be more relaxed/interest driven at that age, so FIAR blended nicely. It was just enough to ease him into "doing school" and yet not so much that it was a chore or took up a lot of time. You can easily go crazy researching activities and looking at some amazing blogs showing some additional activities to go along with FIAR, but I found that just picking a few hands on activities each week made it much more enjoyable.
  2. What I did was I ran a search for OneNote on my desktop and once it came up I right clicked and pinned it to my desktop.
  3. There are quite a few from Teachers Pay Teachers. This is one that I have and plan on using this year. ETA: I also like these ~ and they are free ;)
  4. This is what we are planning to do as well.
  5. Have you seen this one from Harmony Fine Arts? It uses a few different books such as Hungry Planet and Material Planet, but also the Usborne World Religions. We are secular homeschoolers, but I love the overview of world religions that this book provides. Her plans also adds in Trail Guide and a few others. It looks pretty easy to tweak to fit your needs.
  6. I have been tempted by this one: http://www.aimsedu.org/item/1191/it-must-be-a-bird-plus-big-book-pre-k-2/1.html
  7. You can also login at PayPal and then go to www.paypal.com/shipnow and fill in the blanks (address, weight, etc) from there.
  8. I have used Success by Design planners in the past. They are similar, pretty inexpensive and you can order one ;)
  9. Have you looked at the GuestHollow American History lesson plans? She had a lot of different ideas.
  10. We school 6 weeks on, 1 week off. What I have are files with each of the printed ebooks in a file cabinet and during the one week off I pull what we will need for the future six weeks and put them into smaller, easier to handle binders.
  11. My math phobic daughter fell in love with Key to Algebra this year. Now, math is her favorite subject! Our other surprise is the Hakim's Concise History of US. She does not complain about history and actually is enjoying it again.
  12. I just saw that part of the Young Eagles membership is free access to the Sporty's Learn to Fly class. Saves you about $200! I think my son will be looking into this in the near future.
  13. I always thought this looked great: http://lapazfarm.wordpress.com/
  14. eBookDestination.com is offering Carson-Dellosa (the makers of Spectrum) ebooks for 75% off. The sale ends tomorrow, May 9th. I just grabbed a few for the summer and my workbook loving 2nd grader :)
  15. I also think it sounds reasonable and would love to see a tip jar.
  16. I'm with you! I keep telling myself to get math and reading done and anything else is gravy :) I've hit that point were I feel bored with our current curriculum and can't wait to start next years stuff.
  17. I'm just about done, but probably won't get to finishing them until tonight. Ever year I say that we will get an accountant for next year, and every year I'm the one doing them (DH is self employed and I find it to be such a pain). Sigh... maybe next year!
  18. Just saw that Netflix has The Inexplicable Universe with Neil deGrasse Tyson from the Great Courses. Hopefully they will get some others as well!
  19. I see that HSBC has the Mod Design again and I was wondering if anyone has a review of the program? Are the kids continuing with it or do they get bored after a while? Do you need to purchase additional subscriptions for additional students ~ or would one work? My son just spent 15 minutes explaining to me why it would be a great idea for us to get this, lol, so any feedback would be helpful :)
