  1. I was having trouble with it for a couple of hours, but it is working now.
  2. We did the same thing ~ had what we thought would be our last baby, gave away all of our baby gear and decided (at age 41) that we really wanted one more. We didn't tell anyone until we were starting the second trimester and we shocked many folks...including my Mom! I have always had easy pregnancies and my midwife was very supportive. I think it is really what ever you feel comfortable with.
  3. We like using My Body and it can be found on CurrClick. ETA Just saw that the samples on CurrClick are kind of limited. You can see some more over at TCR.
  4. I just started using Jade with my 7th grader. She reads the story on her own and we review the questions orally without too much trouble. I have also included the Interactive Reading Lit Notebook found on Teachers Pay Teachers and love it. Before each story in Jade there is "Blueprint for Reading" that lists what the focus is. I take that focus and the find the correlating notebooking pages in IRLN and use those to expand upon the topic. So far I thing she is really enjoying it and is definitely retaining more than she would if we just ended it with the review questions.
  5. I was looking at the Synergized Middle School Chemistry (both volumes) for next year and was wondering if anyone here has used it. What were your thoughts? Was it easy to use? Did you feel it was a thorough curriculum for middle school? Thanks!
  6. We used World Religions by Teacher Created Materials. It is more of a workbooks vs. a full curriculum, but it worked out well for us.
  7. I did see this in the teacher's guide for Modern 2: "If grades are assigned and appropriate grade levels are achieved, high school credit for this course may be assigned as follows: Geography - 1/2 credit World History - 1 credit Language Arts - 1/2 credit"
  8. What about Five in a Row? Very relaxed, story based and you can add more science if you would like. We sometimes add in some Magic School Bus videos/books to tie into what we are reading. My 6yo loves it!
  9. I am having the exact same problem. We are doing gift cards, but I wanted to do something a little different from B&N, food, and movie gift cards he will be getting from the rest of the family. What I have decided is to do is give him a gift card to go snow tubing ~ enough for him and a friend as well as gas money. He has never been, but I think he will enjoy doing something different... Can't be all study and no play ;)
  10. Just wanted to share that Pandia Press is having a 40% off sale on Friday for 24 hrs only with the discount code TURKEY....
  11. I have always liked Guesthollow's botany. We haven't tried it yet, but it is on our to do list for the spring.
  12. They are having a sale Thanksgiving weekend ~ here are the details.
  13. Thanks everyone! He really doesn't want mom tagging along, so this will definitely be him on his own. I talked with him about it and he said that he is comfortable with letting them know if he is having some trouble, but seems pretty confident. He has been working really hard lately, so who knows, hopefully he will be on track within the next year or so.
  14. I remember that they had a similar sale last Black Friday, so I'm glad to see that they are doing it again. Everything I had seen looked like it was mostly hands on vs. reading, but you never know. It is good to hear from some kids who have been there ;) I think we will go ahead and plan on him going next year...Thanks!
  15. My 10yo has been dreaming of attending Space Camp for a couple of years now. I keep putting it off until "next year" because he is a struggling reader. He knows so much about NASA, rockets, etc. and dreams of working for NASA in the future ~ I know this would be a wonderful trip for him. I'm just worried that he will have trouble because of his reading. He has made a lot of progress this year, but he is still at about a 2nd grade level. Does anyone know how much reading is involved and at what level? I have emailed them but still have not heard back, so I'm hoping someone here might know. Thanks!
  16. Our local schools are some of the worst in the state, so yes, we homeschool because our schools are lacking.
  17. What year was your unit? I got Year 2 Unit 4 and am finding it pretty easy to secularize. We are using the LG/UG and I'm just skipping the Church History and haven't had a problem yet. I have heard that Year 1 has a lot of religion, so I don't think I would even attempt to secularize that, but so far I'm pretty happy with Year 2.
  18. My email arrived this morning ~ it took about a week. I'm so excited to start playing with it :)
