  1. Ignorant question: What is a "lapbook?"
  2. The winter break of '99 I was off 3 weeks instead of 2 in case something happened with Y2K, and my grandmother/current guardian complained (right in front of me) "I don't know what I'm going to do with her all that time" to the receptionist at the chiropractor. That hurt a lot! But she found out what to do with me: the receptionist gave me my first job at age 13. I hope these parent's aren't saying it in front of their kids :glare:
  3. :lurk5: I could use some answers to this as well. My 4yo needs quiet time, I need him to have quite time, but not sure how to differentiate that time.
  4. I have friends sort of like this. They are paying for 2 "new" used cars and private preschool for dd who turns 5 in July but isn't being taught more than sitting still and being quiet and coloring in the lines. The mom works part-time, but instead of paying for daycare they depend on friends and family to watch their kids. My friend got a new iphone, decided it wasn't enough and got an ipad. They buy more convenience food than cooking from scratch. The dad was homeschooled for 1/2 his schooling, but had a bad experience with it (not a lot of support groups back then) so he dosen't want to do that. According to him he wasn't exposed to germs enough as a kid, so he gets sick a lot now. He wants his kids to get exposed to a lot (and they get sick every other month or so) to build up their immune system. You DIFFIDENTLY should be getting money from your sister, especially with gas prices being what they are. I think asking for 1/2 of what they were paying before would be fair. It's less for them, but good for you.
  5. :iagree:I'd like to know that, too! If I'm not mistaken, Botox PARALYZES the facial muscles. She is doing this to a DEVELOPING child! She doesn't think this will affect how her face grows?! She was smart to not give her last name because she KNEW people would think it's wrong because. it's. wrong!
  6. Thankfully my kids still think boxes in the mail=PRESENTS!
  7. I thought it was people just don't like what I say :tongue_smilie:
  8. Another thanks from me as well. It took me a while to even want to read it, but I did start (one of a few books I am okay writing in) and more than anything I think it has helped my attitude a lot.
  9. I only knew Mt McKinley because I was born in Alaska and spent my jr high years in a Christian private school there. My husband wanted to know what was the highest mountain in the continental US like AK didn't count  :glare:
  10. :grouphug: My birthday falls on Mother's Day every 5-6 years, too. Sorry about the coffee and the bacon. Happy Birthday!
  11. These are great! And way better than the ones our church has! Ours is usually "Don't forget, Moses was once a basket case."
  12. You can watch his shows a few hours after they first air on the East Coast on this website. http://thedailybeck.com/ We don't have tv, so this is how we watch.
  13. Pregnancy #1 fruit!!! But I could NOT stand ice cream and it's taken this long to no longer be indifferent to it Pregnancy #2 vinegar on canned beats and spinach and I drank the leftover vinegar in the bowl
  14. We cold-turkey-nothing-on-your-bottom trained. He hated going out in the open and nothing catching it. We had to clean up some messes (and it helped that we didn't leave the house for very long) but after a few weeks there were rarely any accidents. The only downside was that he got used to not wearing anything on his lower half and ran around half naked a lot :D But we don't get a lot of visitors, so it wasn't a big deal.
  15. My plan from a young age was to be done having babies by 30. I turn 25 in a week and I still feel the same.
  16. I have seen these and wondered as well. I used one at our church once, and it sparked. If you like microwave speculation answers, these guys are hilarious :D The channel name is "Is It a Good Idea to Microwave This?"
  17. You need an "other" option for "he'll do it to me but if I did it to him he would freak":001_rolleyes:
  18. I'm jealous. My boys won't eat soup OR my fried rice :glare: They can be starving, haven't hardly eaten all day, and they STILL won't eat it.
  19. I need to get off of here and cook my own dinner, so do you want something now or later?
  20. Lately it's been spilling over a bit by treating ourselves to "extras" like a bag of frozen sliced strawberries and Margaretta mix... (And that dosen't count diapers & wipes which are SO wonderfully priced at Sams the savings in that ALONE more than covers the club cost!) OP: I can pm/e-mail you my monthly shopping list tomorrow if you want it, along with a list of dinners we eat on a regular basis. Do you need an idea for tonight?
  21. For meat we usually get ground hamburger and the 10lb bag of chicken breast portions. (We buy a month's worth of food at a time, except for the little things like milk, fruit, and bread that need to be replenished more quickly.) I have 3 chicken and rice recipes I could give you right now, if you're looking for food for tonight. I also have 2 1/2 different ways to cook hamburger and rice. I have 4 ways to cook pasta, and some dinner suggestion if you have any stove top (LOVE that stuff...)
  22. This is what we do. I don't have it all written down, but I can help, if you want. For our family of 4 we try to keep it to $300/month. We eat a lot of the same basic staples, just cooked/mixed/spiced in different ways.
