  1. Soror, your post gave me goosebumps : ) That is so exciting, and I'm impressed that you were able to coach him to a 7/8 on the essay in such a short time!
  2. It seems to me that the person your daughter is subleasing from would be required to pay the rest of the August rent. Your daughter should only pay through Aug. 8.
  3. I had my Kenmore washer and dryer for 32 years! Then the washer started leaking oil underneath and I think the ball bearings were going out? I also bought the last of the old Speed Queens : )
  4. It sounds to me like it could be the pelvic floor problem. I have prolapse going on, but it isn't bothering me. But, I asked the surgeon who wanted to perform the surgery (I said NO THANKS!) what kinds of problems I would have, and he described the heaviness, aching pain that you describe. I remembered having that very same pain for a while after I delivered my first baby (forceps delivery almost 26 years ago).
  5. I have a friend from high school who has been diagnosed with this antibody encephalitis: https://www.healthline.com/health-news/mental-could-schizophrenia-be-caused-by-autoimmune-disease-022014#4 I couldn't find the article he linked, but a google search brought up many similar articles. I was thinking he was having more of an Alzheimer's kind of response rather than bipolar or schizophrenic manifestations...He did mention something about possible "flares" of his condition in the future, but it was under control right now.
  6. I have never tried any of the services, but I found this article while investigating: https://lifehacker.com/the-best-meal-kit-services-blue-apron-vs-hello-fresh-1682517921
  7. My Speed Queen dryer dries faster, but I think it is because my old one was dying...What I really like about the dryer is that the lint trap is inside the dryer instead of on top so I don't have lint all over my laundry room now!
  8. I feel your pain! I once had a salesperson come to my door and ask to speak to my mom. I told her I would have to call her because she lived in another state...
  9. I also got one of the last 2017 Speed Queens -- my 32 year old washer had the exact same problem yours did! I told my dh I didn't need the matching dryer, but he wanted me to have both : ) I am very happy so far! And, the washer and dryer are both so much quieter than my old ones. Plus, I absolutely love having my lint trap inside the dryer rather than on top, which caused lint to spew all over the laundry room when I pulled the lint trap out!!!
  10. Good point! I just looked at the control panel, and it doesn't look like it has a soak cycle :crying:
  11. I keep hearing about mother boards that go out on the newer models, costing more to repair than replace, so I wanted the simple knobs without all the fancy electronics. My basic Kenmore has lasted over 30 years, I'm sad to see it go, but it is leaking oil underneath...
  12. So, I splurged and bought a Speed Queen washer and dryer on-line, and I purposely bought the older model because I didn't want the electronic gadgets. I ordered on Feb. 12 and I just looked to see when it would be shipping, when I noticed that they are planning to ship the newer model : (. I'm a bit upset that they didn't inform me that they had switched my order!!! I think I can still cancel my order since it hasn't shipped yet. Do I want to cancel my order? Am I going to be unhappy with the newer Speed Queen? I really hate the lid lock thing...
  13. My dd took a couple of classes with GAVS (a Latin course and an English course, if I remember right). I realized later that the content of her course was identical to the shared resources. The shared resources don't include the exams, but the information that will be covered can be found here: http://www.gavirtuallearning.org/Resources/ScienceResources/ScienceShared/SharedBiology17.aspx
  14. Good luck getting it straightened out. I hate when I have to put in tons of effort to fix someone else's mistake!
  15. LOL, that's the way I am, and everyone in my family is like that but my one dd. Dd said the other day that her friends were much more understanding of her problems that I am...
  16. I'm the "finisher" in our house. My dh and dd's will start the daily puzzle in the newspaper, and I either help them with it, or come along afterwards and finish it. I love puzzles : )
  17. Hmm, I must have had a mild case of mono (11th grade)...I missed 2 days of school, but that was because of the staph infection in my throat...I was tired after school, but I didn't have trouble making it through my days. I just slept a bit more than normal for a while.
  18. It has been 15 years since I've been there, but I found that standing in a train station with an open map always resulted in a native willing to point me in the right direction : ).
  19. It might vary from place to place, but we had a situation where the insurance billed the wrong account (my ds went to the ER about a week before turning 23; at age 23 he aged off our insurance, but we got a secondary policy for him when he turned 23). The hospital billed my ds's new policy instead of my dh's and my policy. We called the hospital and explained their error, and they were supposed to resubmit the bill to our account. I thought the situation was taken care of, until we got a bill about a year later from the hospital. I called the hospital and explained the situation (AGAIN!), The hospital resubmitted to our insurance, but then we were notified by our insurance that they didn't pay anything on the bill. I called my insurance and explained the situation, and they said they weren't required to pay because it had been over the 1 year limit...I totally expected to keep getting bills from the hospital, but I haven't seen one...Maybe I'll get another one next year : ).
  20. I'm not an expert, but the Vitamix will pulverize everything, whereas a food processor can be used for things like shredding and chopping...
  21. I think you have to get the 7-in-1 to get the yogurt feature. I'm thinking about trying to snag one on Black Friday to replace my crockpot and rice cooker (which is dying). I'm not sure how much of the pressure cooker feature I will actually use because I've never used one before , but I like the stainless steel pot for the rice and crockpot (I hope).
  22. My dd is a senior this year doing dual enrollment. Her textbook rental is included in the dual enrollment classes, so the university chose to give her e-books for chemistry and biology, and her homework for chemistry is on-line, so we scrambled to get her a laptop so she could do her school work without fighting for a computer and without being tied to our house (she sometimes pet/house sits). She is also taking Calculus on-line. Ironically, they gave her a hard copy of the calculus book. We wanted a relatively portable laptop in case she needed to take it to class with her, but, so far, she hasn't taken it with her. We bought her an Acer Spin-5 at Costco that was $100 off. She knows this is her big Christmas present this year, since my other kids got their first computers as gifts.
