  1. I was going to suggest the Joanne Fluke books that someone mentioned above. There is also a Benni Harper series by Earlene Fowler.
  2. We keep ours in our fireproof box in our closet...Do you have a place you keep important papers like birth certificates, marriage license, passports...
  3. I bought my dh WONER hair clippers a couple of years ago, and he still raves that they are the best ones he's ever used.
  4. We know a husband and wife who were exposed to COVID on June 28. They were tested on July 2 and both tested negative, but they both started feeling flu-like symptoms on July 3. They both had the classic COVID symptoms (loss of smell, cough, etc.) and then the husband starts feeling better but his wife takes a turn for the worse. They both get retested on July 13. He tests negative and she tests positive. In fact, on July 16 she was admitted to the hospital because she was not doing well. She stayed overnight and they released her the next day after giving her some potassium and a breathing treatment. So they were pre-symptomatic the day before their first COVID tests and tested negative. Then for the second test, when he is on the mend, he again tests negative, but I would have to assume that he truly did have COVID since his wife tested positive the second time. Does this mean that you only get a positive COVID test if you are at a certain stage in the illness? But then, how were asymptomatic people getting positive test results? Were the husband's tests just false negatives? To me, it looks like the testing ability is so flawed that it is hardly worth using...
  5. I thought obesity was a medical term, but maybe they'd prefer to say they have high BMI? I'm just grasping at straws here...
  6. Sounds like you need thicker trash bags -- ours don't tend to leak or break...
  7. We have a cockatiel. I got it for my girls. It is ten years old, and it doesn't look like either of my dds will be taking it with them (one dd is in college and the other has graduated and is living with another family, so does not have her own living space). Not to mention, both dds are really wanting cats, which I don't think will mesh well with having a bird. As mentioned above, the cockatiel lifespan is 20 years or so...
  8. Maybe a northern white cedar?
  9. Praying for your dd and for your peace of mind. That sounds incredibly stressful.
  10. Me! I just graduated my fourth/last child on Saturday. I have been homeschooling for 21 years. I'm not sure what I will do next...
  11. About reinfection and asymptomatic carriers Sounds like maybe the COVID19 test can't distinguish between dead and live viruses? Also, this has already been reported somewhere in this thread, but maybe we don't really have asymptomatic spreaders? I think, in general, people are generally able to spread viruses before they feel sick, so this would be more of the same?
  12. How can 5 years' worth of safety and efficacy data make you more confident in a vaccine if there are QC issues? Maybe you would end up being injected with a vaccine that hadn't truly passed QC -- you could be one of the "unlucky" few who get that batch? I know you said the vaccine hadn't outright failed, but doesn't it worry you? If it was happening where you worked, then other places likely have similar problems...
  13. She does seem a little bit ignorant, but I don't think I would get rid of her on the basis of not having a flu shot. If you/your family get the flu shot, then you should be protected, right? And, the COVID 19 vaccination is still in the future, so it isn't as though she is causing any more risk than any other hcp right now. I have never had a flu shot, nor have I ever had the flu, and I doubt I would get the COVID 19 vaccination for a variety of reasons. It frustrates me to hear some people on this board call me selfish for not getting a flu vaccination. It seems like getting/not getting a flu vaccine is a personal choice. I am not anti-vax per se -- my family is vaccinated for all the childhood diseases, I just don't see a need to get a flu vaccine every year.
  14. LOL, I would be concerned for your daughter as well! My dd, who doesn't have misophonia, complained about the constant noise in the dorms -- people running down the halls, etc. (especially in the middle of the night!), and she was in an end room.
  15. Yeah, he has -0.75 in both the left and right eyes for cylinder.
  16. It looks like his last exam had him at 0.75 diopters...so, if it gets worse, then contact lenses aren't going to work for him? Or, he would need special contacts that would be much more expensive (which won't work for us parents, lol)?
  17. I thought a while back that I'd heard about "extended wear" contacts that you could sleep in? Were there problems with infections? Or are those the gas permeable contacts? I could see my DS not needing/wanting to wear contacts every day, depending on what he is doing on that day...if he had monthlies and didn't wear them every day, would they be good for 30 days of wear, or would it be 30 days regardless of whether or not he was wearing them? Maybe dailies would work better for that situation? I don't think our insurance will pay for any of it. I really appreciate everyone who has chimed in! Martha
  18. Is there a disadvantage to getting monthlies? I would think my ds would love not to have to worry about them for a month -- or is there some maintenance involved with the longer wear contacts?
  19. So would the eye doctor try different kinds of lenses until he found one that works for my ds?
  20. My ds18 is interested in getting contact lenses, especially now that he has to wear a mask at work. I realize we need to go to the optometrist to get a prescription. Do you then buy the contacts at your opticians, or do you shop for a better price? Or are prices pretty standard? Do you get a year's supply at one time? Are there different kinds of contact lenses? I have no experience with contact lenses (obviously), so any help/advice you can give me would be most appreciated!
