  1. I always thought that the look of super tight skivvy outlining clothes was the result of a sudden weight gain, and the poor person could only just squeeze into their top... or perhaps they were wearing a pressure suit....... You mean all my sympathy for the poor person was mislaid
  2. :grouphug: sometimes I wonder if having so many tests like HCG's actually just increases the worry for the mother. If you didn't know the numbers in the first place you would not be so stressed out.
  3. Most things in Canada are cheaper than in Australia, however, lots of shops will be starting to have their summer clearance sales on and selling things like shorts and bathers cheaper at the moment. Just about the only thing cheaper in Australia than Canada are electronics like cameras.
  4. Oh you poor poor thing! :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: wish I could just reach right through the computer and give you a hug :grouphug:
  5. we only eat one meal a day as a family. people eat breakfast when they wake up, lunch is anywhere between 11 - 2. Tea (the evening meal) is at 6pm on the dot.
  6. The public transport in Melbourne is excellent. When I visit Melbourne I only use public transport.
  7. there was a very interesting thingy on the television about how a huge heat wave with extremely high temperatures for weeks on end in the centre of Australia actually makes the air at high altitudes expand, causes a huge uplift of air and can start a major monsoons around the edges of Australia and even into Indonesia . This was on the television about 10 days ago. I am thinking that that meteorologist was actually a prophet.
  8. Mail them. they probably have no idea how long it takes for a letter to get from Australia to America anyway.
  9. If you like bike riding I highly recomend going on some of the Rail Trails http://www.railtrails.org.au/trail-descriptions/victoria. the one near me is absolutely beautiful
  10. Melbourne is a very bike friendly city, lots of roads have bike lanes, and you can ride a bike on all roads apart from the freeways. there are many great National Parks fairly close to Melbourne, including the Grampians. I would also recommend a trip to Philip Island. Wold you be doing mostly day trips from Melbourne? or would you be renting a camper/camping?
  11. debit card and cash for shopping. bills are paid by phone banking, and purchases over the Internet are by bank transfer. Check books in Australia are practically non existent. Banks are trying to phase them out and put a hefty surcharge on using them, something like $10 to get the check book, and $1 fee to process each check.
  12. other. I would keep her home and let her rest in bed. I wouldn't bother about urgent care at all unless she got worse. The absolute best was to get better fast is to get heaps of rest.
  13. I actually reread it last year, and thought I remembered it being much more interesting when I read it at 16
  14. Here in Aus it would go for way way more than that, well over a million I mean, my house is 400 km away from Melbourne, 20 minute drive to the nearest small town, 100 km to the nearest shopping centers and would sell for $350k. My nan's super tiny pokey single story house in an outer suburb of Melbourne, built during WW2, super tiny bedrooms sold for $700k 3 years ago. Heck, My son is paying close to $200 rent a week just for a room at uni in Melbourne.
  15. I had to google what a twin bed was. Thanks to wikipedia I discovered that a twin bed it is the same as what is known as a single bed in the rest of the world! 4 of my children use single beds. We use sheets, then wool blankets then a homemade quilt. the wool blankets tuck in on three sides. keeping the bed together. ds15 is well over 6 feet tall, and has trouble keeping the blankets tucked in, so he uses a double bed blanket that is a little bigger, and tucks in a little further.
  16.
