  1. We are in southern Ca. We pay: electricity/gas-$130-$150 per month Water-$125 per month Trash-paid for in taxes Cell phones-$250
  2. Ballet levels are so subjective! My daughters school starts with pre ballet then beginning ballet, then goes 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B, 3A, 3B, 4/5/6. 5/6 is our preprofessional level. My daughter just made level 4, where I expect she'll be for at least 2 years.
  3. I'd have them do a trial class at both places and decide from there.
  4. Athleta suits are amazing for support, last forever and are expensive! They are having a sale right now.
  5. I can relate to the uncomfortable in a bikini issue. In my 20's and early 30's I wouldn't have been caught dead in a bikini. It's funny, because I was slim and it would have looked great, lol. Now that I'm 40, I don't care. I wear my Athleta bikini and I rock it for my age. I wish I hadn't cared so much when I was younger.
  6. You need vitamin D drops with K2. I take one that's made by Thorne.
  7. Our house rule for our "living at home and going to college adult child", is that he text us by 10:30pm to let us know if he'll be out late. He doesn't ask permission or have to tell us where he is, just that he'll be out. Also, no working out in the garage past 10:30, as its too noisy. If he were to consistently come in late and be so loud that he disturbs everyone, he'd have to find other living arrangements.
  8. I had 4 older kids, and was homeschooling 3, when I went back to college. However, I only took 2 classes at a time at the very most, and often only 1 per semester. Also my classes were online, so I was still able to homeschool everyone. It was a lot of work, 1-2 classes plus homework and study time. I couldn't imagine having 3 young ones, homeschooling and being in class 2 full days a week. I think you need to decide what's more important to you, homeschooling or going back to school, because you can't really do both well, imo.
  9. My daughter dances at a classical youth ballet school that does not have a professional company. She will most likely not become a professional dancer, but there have been some girls that graduated and went on to dance professionally. We tried a few different schools and here were my priorities; 1. Quality of teaching. Are the teachers dancing or doing professional development? Do they put girls up on pointe too young? Etc.. 2. Body/race issues. Are there different sizes and races of girls dancing? 3. Performance opportunities. Does everyone have a chance to perform in some way? 4. Community outreach. Does the school do any kind of outreach or programs? How do they reach out to the community? We ended up a a large youth nonprofit ballet school. It fits my daughters needs, and my desires.
  10. At least she's excited to see you, lol!
  11. I couldn't find anything with that much land. Closest I could find was this at just over a million dollars. http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/6530-Linda-Ln-San-Diego-CA-92120/16989652_zpid/
  12. My middle son tried guitar when he was younger and he said his fingers hurt so badly. We let him stop playing, and he picked up bass several years later with no pain. Sometimes their hands just need to be bigger. Let himself switch instruments.
  13. My son has cold water urticaria. He developed it 6 years ago after he had pneumonia. His symptoms have gradually lessened over the years, but we still have to be cautious and manage it carefully. Have you seen an allergist? I was able to find one who specializes in cold urticaria, and he was a wealth of knowledge for us. They even used ds as a test subject at some of their events. My son takes allergy meds when he is going to be exposed to cold water, it really helps. He still carries an epi pen for emergencies.
  14. My daughter uses a plastic shower caddy at camp. The first time she went for 6 days, she said a bag was a total pain in the neck. The shower caddy works so much better, everything fits in it and nothing gets lost. She keeps it at the end of her bunk. We got ours at Target. http://m.target.com/p/room-essentials-plastic-shower-caddy/-/A-50710317
  15. We just did it. We owed less than 50% on our homes value. We took out 30,000 cash out refi, and refinanced. Our loan went back to 30 years, (from 26 years), we got a lower interest rate and our payment dropped. It cost us about 5,000 to do the loan, and a large part of that went into our escrow account. We were able to do much of the work ourselves, and squeaked every penny out of that money. I'm very glad we did it.
  16. Oh wow. I'm right there with you on this. My oldest is nearly 20, my youngest is 8. I've been a sahm for 20 years. Sometimes I'm proud of that, other times I feel like I wasted those 20. I dream about still going to med school. It's never going to happen, but I have my dream.
  17. I had to google to see what you meant haha. No, my kids wouldn't know how to use those.
  18. Actually, this happened to my Dh last week. He was driving our 19 year old son's 1986 Chevy Blazer home from work. He was going about 50, down a large hill and realized he had absolutely no brakes. Everyone was stopped at the red light at the bottom of the hill. Thankfully he was in the left hand lane on a 3 lane road. He drove up and over the center island into oncoming traffic, (which was far enough away from him, so he knew they would all have enough time to stop without hitting him), flipped a U-turn and then drove into an uphill driveway which slowed him down enough to downshift. He said he knew he didn't have enough time to downshift without hitting the cars in front of him. At 50 mph, the parking break was zero help. It was a miracle that he and the car didn't even have a scratch. We were so thankful Dh was driving, and not our son. Most likely, he would have severely injured himself and the people in front of him. What's even more upsetting is that DH was supposed to leave the next day, driving that car, to pick up our daughter at summer camp in the mountains. If the brakes had gone out on the mountain, that would have been life threatening for both of them.
  19. Athleta. They are expensive, but hold up so well, and are cute without being frumpy. I used to did suits at Lands End, but I think they get frumpier every year.
  20. It worked very well for my daughter, but not for my sons. She is a very strong auditory learner. I don't think it works well for kids who aren't auditory learners. It took her 2 school years to get through level B. Her spelling ability increased significantly. She's still not s perfect speller, and never will be, but it made a huge difference.
  21. Oh wow, I'm so glad this has a happy ending. Those poor kids though, I hope they can heal from this.
  22. We just finished Ophelia and the Marvelous Boy. It was fantastic, all of us loved it.
  23. My 4th baby was the only one who ever consistently slept in a crib. Maybe try a pack n play, they are cheaper hahaha
  24. I've been dealing with a nail fungus for like 10 years. I got it totally cleared up and healed and it came back a year later, arg!!
