  1. Thank you for your response. I did download the Mr. Q Life. I need the Earth & Space one. I'm worried that just reading and answering questions isn't going to work, which is what the Life one looks like at a glance, I haven't printed it since I know I won't be using it. Have you enjoyed the experiments/activities in Mr.Q? The thing I didn't like about RSO is that it felt too light. I wanted more of a text book, I guess. I did like the experiments in RSO Life, but clearly not enough to stick with it for Earth and Space!
  2. I think the title says it all...can anyone compare/contrast REAL Science Odyssey to Mr. Q's Science?
  3. Have you talked to his OT? They can offer a WEALTH of information on exercises, activities and even games/puzzles you can play to help, all depending on your child's specific issues. When we wanted to take a break from OT about a year ago, I had our OT make up a list of things we could do at home a few times a day, to 'neutralize' his system when it was out of whack...most of them are good for anybody to do, of course, but particularly help his issues.
  4. Thanks! We did Great Composers last year and did enjoy it, I think I just want more music instruction that I might can do at home.
  5. Thanks for the advice. I will take a look at the Harmony Art Mom!
  6. I was looking at k12's music, and it looks great and easy to implement. BUT, it's way out of my budget. Is there anything similar, but cheaper out there?
  7. I am usually a Hanna Andersson, CWDKids, Orient Expressed, etc. proponent, BUT there is an adorable red sweater dress at Target right now that is perfectly age appropriate and super soft! It looks great dressed up or down...http://www.target.com/p/Cherokee-Girls-Short-Sleeve-Sweater-Dress-Red/-/A-13402748 A lot of the 'tween' girls around here have it on in their Christmas card pics!
  8. Both are in 2 sports, plus scouts.
  9. We started Getting Started with Latin a few weeks ago and love it. It is gentle, but we do 1-2 lessons a day and the bonus is that it was CHEAP! Just buy the one book and then download the mp3s for pronunciation (free). I tried it out by borrowing from the library first.
  10. They always get a character electric toothbrush...like barbie, Star Wars, etc. a small gift, candies, 'junk' like notebooks, etc. and a small gift card.
  11. She's a younger 6 yo. I will try with the pairs and then keep going. She just glazes over when I ask about them!
  12. We use Saxon 1 and supplement a little with MM1. My daughter just doesn't get the odd/even thing. I have tried everything I can think of. She does 'get' it. Any ideas or can you point me to a resource that might help?
  13. My sensory DS will only (and I'm not kidding here) wear tee's from the GAP. They are soft so the neck doesn't bother him. If you get them on sale with a coupon I can usually get them cheaper than Target, Kohl's, etc. Not sure they have any v-necks though...would Kohl's?
  14. I don't use all abridged versions, but for my ds who had a hard time learning to read and still struggles some but is on grade level, they've been great. He has really enjoyed Treasure Island, Tale of Two Cities, Three Musketeers, and more in the Great Illustrated Classics abridged versions. I still do some as read aloud in their 'original' state (like Christmas Carol!), but I don't have the time to read them all and if I wait I might miss the opportunity to expose him to great stories---especially when all of his friends are reading Captain Underpants and Diary of a Wimpy Kid.
  15. I'd just encourage them to get premarital counseling to go over things like money handling, debt, children (when to start, how many), disciplining children, education, religion, how to handle disagreements, etc.
  16. I think it would have been a better game otherwise...and for the record, I'm not a fan of any of the three teams, so no dog in the fight!
  17. I also have Hashimoto's that was recently diagnosed. I have been toying with the idea of going gluten-free to reduce inflammation. I don't have all the issues that you're dealing with but be sure to research the gluten and thyroid connection. If your body has a lot of antibodies, it could cause other problems, even if your bloodwork appears normal. Anyway, just my take on it...I've only been researching for a few days.... I hope you feel better soon!!:grouphug:
  18. Yes, mine love theirs! I would suggest a used one from Game Stop so they are cheaper. Mine don't sit around playing a ton (which we wouldn't allow anyway), but when I go to the doctor or dentist or we need to ride for over an hour in the car, they're invaluable to my sanity! They'll use them 1-2 times a week.
  19. I loved the Help and Water for Elephants, but I TRIED, SO HARD to like the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and I just don't. I read 150 pages in and hated. every. minute. of. it. I just think everybody likes different things, kwim?
