  1. I just switched my K'er to CLE 100 from Saxon 1. We were about 85 lessons into Saxon 1 and it just wasn't clicking with her. I knew from having DS (and trying LOTS of programs with him!) that I would probably put her in CLE for net year, so I went ahead and moved over. We could have started in 104, but I backed up and started at 103. It took a couple of lessons for her to understand the format, but now she's doing great. We have more facts to review daily right now, but as she has them memorized, I'm sure that stack will shrink. In your situation, I would probably start at 102 or 103.
  2. We want our kids to go to college or trade school. FWIW, I'm tempted to say they will go no matter what, but I've learned to never say never. If they live at home during this time, we will not charge rent. If they were out of highschool and living at home NOT going to school and not planning or saving for school, we probably would make them pay rent. If they were saving for school and they were diligent about saving, we wouldn't make them pay rent. If they weren't a good saver, we would make them pay rent and save the rent for them for school.
  3. Mine do sometimes, but we have Sweet Gum trees and the 'gum balls' can be painful if stepped on!
  4. We are really liking Getting Started with Latin. It's cheap and easy to implement and I've learned a lot, along with my 3rd grader!
  5. The ones I've seen...it's been the fear of the unknown. Where will we live? How will I feed them? What about clothes? How will they get to school? How will I get to work? and on.... Many :grouphug: on getting out and I am sorry you suffered. Many prayers and good thoughts for healing and peace!
  6. Thank you so much for your comments, advice and input! I am going to go ahead and start one and see where it takes us. I'll get some of the picture then writing type paper at the school supply store. I may use my dd's with prompts and maybe give her a word list to use...she DOESN'T like not knowing how to spell everything she wants to say! For my ds, we will try some free writing and see if it works. If not, I have a writing subject box with starters. I have a feeling I'll read a whole lot about Star Wars and hockey, lol! Thanks again!
  7. Do you have your kids journal each day/week? And, if so, what to they journal about, do you have different journals for subjects or is it more like tell me your favorite thing you did this weekend, etc.? I am thinking my son might benefit from one, but I'm not sure if I should just throw it out and see what happens or guide it.
  8. Can you do an addition? Must less cost long term.
  9. We have 3 of these 3 shelf ones and 2 of the 5 shelf ones. They work great for homeschool materials! They're NOT Ethan Allen quality, but they are sturdy and they hold a ton. They do go on sale frequently as well! http://www.target.com/p/Room-Essentials-5-Shelf-Bookcase-Espresso/-/A-12630802
  10. My 9 yo DS received an iTouch for his birthday and he LOVES it. Now, he can't really read books on it, but all the games and learning apps are still available. We're even considering one for out 6 yo dd on her b-day this year. It's great!
  11. Thanks! This is just how my ds thinks! I was wondering about the written part. So you just have him write the first few sentences on day one and fill in each day, if I'm understanding you right? That might work for us if I read the SOTW chapter on Monday and then have him narrate a little each day from what he remember. I don't really want to write it for him either. Maybe when he can type fast he can begin typing them....he is writing phobic! FWIW, I want him to be able to summarize, but I also want the details and the sequence so I'm really thinking that CM style narration works best for us and then maybe moving into outlining might be best. We're just still feeling all of this out--written narrations are our weak point right now!
  12. What does this look like for history, reading, etc. in your homeschool?
  13. It looks exactly like fluorosis. My son has it too. Not dangerous and it internal. Dentist says it was from when the adult teeth were forming the child swallowed too much floride. They may not have rinsed as well as they should have at 2, 3, 4 years old when the teeth were forming inside the gums. Also, add the water and other items that have floride in them and there is a lot more in out bodies now that ever. He did tell me that as they get older some if might 'wear off' and change to look more even.
  14. FWIW, I went all white and LOVE it. I can bleach if needed and they're easy to put away. They're also easy to replace piecemeal if needed. Also, most of the major stores have white sales in January. If you can wait a few days, they'll be on sale wherever you shop!
  15. Search Dr. Mercola's site...I don't have time to link but he will list specific studies citing the effects of aspartame and other artificial sweeteners. I can tell you that I have had bursitis in both hips for the last year. So bad that I've done the steroids, pain meds, chiropractor, vitamins, etc. I had a diet coke habit. I went off one month ago and within 3 days, my hips quit hurting and haven't hurt since. I'll never consume it again knowingly (although I STILL crave dc!).
  16. Just in my opinion, it's probably not the powder, it's the foundation. I'd look into a different moisturizer or if that's working ok, a more moisturizing foundation. It sounds too heavy for your skin if it's cakey and settling in fine lines, time to switch! Also, depending on the amount of coverage needed, you could do a tinted moisturizer with loose powder over it as well.
  17. Two things we send regularly to our 90 and 96 yo family members are fruit baskets (like Harry & David) and I make a collage of photos and get them printed at somewhere like snapfish in a large size. DH's grandma has severe macular degeneration so I have to print big for her to see! I think the pillowcases sound fabulous too!
  18. My DH and I started dating in hs. We never did the breakup/back together thing. We stayed together through college and got married 6 months after graduating college. It does happen sometimes!
  19. I really like it as well, but it was a bit too advanced for my 3rd grade ds. He wasn't quite ready to outline yet. I'm working on it with him and hopefully we can 'restart' this late spring.
  20. I'm bad. If it's reasonable and you can do it (money, etc), I probably would go get it. BUT, i totally understand if you don't! I'm just a sucker...and as long as mine still believe in Santa...I would do it!
  21. The only way is cold turkey for me. I just did it with Diet Coke 3 1/2 weeks ago. I still miss is terribly--every day. But, I remind myself that it's horrible for me and will screw up my body when I want one. Good Luck!!
  22. I downloaded the student book, not the teacher manual yet. I will do that ASAP to review it. Thank you for telling me there is more meat to it, RSO was too light for me...even adding 1-2 books...which I had to wait for at the library. I am worried about the printing costs with Mr. Q, but I guess I can print a chapter at a time to spread it out more. I may just get a unit of the Earth and Space and try it now before the sale in January.
