I'm asking because he's starting Pubic school in the fall and will be taking Geometry, which, in that school, comes after Algebra 1. He was taking Apex Algebra and only got to unit 2. He needs to complete Algebra 1 before Sept.1. I can buy an Algebra 1 program, but have these two. I'm guessing he can start at lesson 80 in Algebra 1 and finish in lesson 80 in Algebra 2. Wondering what some TT users have done. For those who aren't familiar with TT, it is known to be about 6 mons. behind other programs.

I have the older versions of Teaching Textbooks, Algebra. 1 and 2, with DVDs. I'd like to use the two books for a complete Algebra 1 course for my son. I've read that some parents start their kids with lesson 80 in Algebra 1. Would we complete all of Algebra 2 or is there a stopping point. He'll be doing this over the summer and taking a Geometry class in public school in the fall.

He rarely saw his father, and was so depressed about that. He was very close to his older sister who married and moved away. After all of this, he lost all interest in life, friends and school. As an update: He attended Vanguard from Nov.2013- June 2014. He was top of his class and won several awards and was inducted into the National Honors Society. In fairness to the other students, he didn't have any learning disabilities. Since he's now caught up and is feeling better about himself, he's ready for 11th grade in our local High School. Vanguard's students were wonderful kids and became great friends. I loved the caring and compassionate staff. Additional update: My husband is home with us now- that really helps. -

Vanguard School went through a complete staff change, right up to President of the school, a few years ago. Most of the kids are boys with ADD, ADHD, some are challenged in other ways. My son is behind in school. At 17 he should be in 11th grade, but is finishing ninth, slowly. I found a tutor who seems to work well with him. PS: He was tested, doesn't have any learning issues, -
Does anyone have any knowledge of this school? It isn't far from our home and they provide day school and boarding k-12th. It is primarily for struggling students, and those with learning issues. I talked with their Principal and she explained that they also help kids get caught up to grade level. I want to place my 17 year old, slowpoke homeschooled son in the school. He's just finishing 9th grade. I'd like to know more about this school, if anyone has heard anything about it. We are actually new to the area.

Sorry I wasn't clear about second posting. Someone had asked what my son liked to do, and that was my response. -

He loves computers. He often fixes and updates friends' and family computers. He can hook up and/or fix any devices, even installed a complete video camera system throughout our home. He hates anything academic. I just don't know how he can get into college without such classes. I've decided to take him to our local college and take the placement test; I may even dual enroll him. -

Ok, found some answers here: http://sandradodd.com/teen/college.html -
Our freshmen son wants to 'unschool'. How in the world do you prove anything they've done? I just can't wrap my mind around unschooling. How can you provide a transcript without using textbooks? I can understand something like '60 hours in Animal Study, from the 4-H', but wouldn't know what to do about the basic academics. Besides, my son would take full advantage of 'unschooling and avoid things like math. Our daughter, currently working on her Bachelor's degree, used various textbooks and dual-enrolled. Transcripts and taking ACTs we're not difficult to figure out. We're in FL if that means anything.

I'm in Florida. The college just told me that I need an affidavit from the county. -

My DD just finished a two year dual enroll program at our State College with honors and a straight 4.0. I'm surprised to hear that they want proof she graduated from my home school before they give her an Associate's degree. It seems silly, even when considering her grades. Must I make a diploma and transcript? They also wanted proof from our school board that she has graduated HS. We do report to them.. I'm assuming I need a affidavit of proof from our school board. -
Cognitive Abilities test... practice or not?

Rather than going to a 'teacher's store' to find practice test; does anyone know of any free downloads on-line? PS: Our insurance is paying for this particular group, so guess we'll go with the testing and see what's up.
