  1. I am really sorry to hear this. I'm also sorry to hear some of you haven't had a great 2016. Hope next year is better for you!
  2. Sorry, I don't know about the goats milk lip balm. I have been using a you tubers' unusual suggestion , and it is the best lip balm i have ever tried. Lansolin..the tube of stuff that breast feeing moms use. You need only a tiny amount, on the tip of your finger and tap fingers together and pat on your lips. It's shiny if you don't blot. She uses it at night, but I am going to get mini tubes to carry with me.great stuff! Good for cuticles too.
  3. Or in the middle part of the U.S. "pop". In parts of Texas "Coke", then specify the brand, but that is going away.
  4. Our DS was interested in schools with a strong on campus religious center. He eliminated small religious schools because of their small size . He didn't want to be 1 of 3-5 students in a class junior and senior year. As parents, we also wanted a strong enough accademic program for employment and/or grad school. Some of our friends' kids have gotten crazy wonderful scholarships and then after getting a 4.0 at their schools couldn't get into a graduate program (based on the accademic rep of the undergraduate school). We both looked for schools that had lots of clubs and activities to choose from. An enviornment that is friendly and welcoming was important, and In the end we found two acceptable choices at the two larger schools in state. That did narrow the scope quite a bit, but I think it could apply to OOS. He might have been interested in looking further away, but finacially it didn't make sense to fund more travel, ect, I guess we would have looked at the megabus os Southwest airlines locations for cheap transport. If he had found any school that met the other criteria, we would be happy to look at them, but to be honest, he wasn't super invested in the college search. He chose two schools, was admitted to both and went to one.
  5. I am not sure if it would help, but we have used some self stick white board materials at home similar to this: https://www.amazon.com/Pacon-GoWrite-Erase-Self-Adhesive-AR1820/dp/B000F8XDXI I am sure this isn't the one we purchased, but I have been requested not to check previous Amazon orders at this time of year:) If he couldn't self stick, maybe he could place holes in it and hang using approved hooks or something. We have a huge file cabinet, that our is stuck on, so I can't speak to how easily it comes off. Sounds like he has a great plan for next semester!
  6. I just wanted to add that if there is no MOT school nearby, there is a program commonly found at the CCs for an Occupational therapy assistant, It is also a two year degree, and you pass a national exam at the end to become a COTA. The salary is not as high, but there are more schools and perhaps one would be nearby? http://www1.salary.com/Certified-Occupational-Therapist-Assistant-salary.html Bot OTs and COTAs work in hosptials, rehab facilities, private offices, home health, schools, and nursing homes. Depending on which type of job you choose, it can be a great fit for flexibility in hours, ect. There are a few bridge programs in which COTA can get their MOT. So she could boost her salary at a later date if it is not feasible now.
  7. I am so sorry . That is horrible news to hear after working so hard. Just an idea, but with some of the areas she is intersted in, she might like Occupational Therapy. She probably has many of the prerequisites and the entry level masters degree requires an undergraduate degree in something..and biopyschology is ideal . The very best thing is is the great job outlook, and pretty good pay. The national organization does a good job of making sure the market isn't flooded with graduates, so it seems like most places have a need. Her loans would be deferred and sadly she would need more of them, but salaries have remained on the higher end. http://www1.salary.com/Occupational-Therapist-Salary.html Here is a link for info..http://www.aota.org/Education-Careers/Considering-OT-Career.aspx The degree she might want to look into is the MOT( Masters of Occupational Therapy) . http://www.aota.org/education-careers/find-school/accreditentrylevel/otmasters.aspx Anyway, something to think about. My daughter is planning on going this route. HTH!
  8. My son is also a RA, so although his finals were done on Tues, he gets to leave on Sunday. Still, it is a week before Christmas and there is plenty of time for us to see Star Wars, em,... have family time. Hope you all have a happy holiday with your family and everyone arrives home safely soon.
  9. Yes, the first module A, is pre-Algebra. There are five modules and completion of all of them is Pre-Algebra thru Algebra 2. You can often get module A at a great discount. Mr. Clark is great with any questions. http://videotext.com/algebra-a-complete-course/ Hth!
  10. Sorry, I didn't see this until now. We use Video Text and it really does answer the "why" question. Even my daughter who got stuck in Videotext Alg and restarted with Saxon remembers the steps and whys of some of their videos. PreAlg (the first module) takes some of my kids takes a looong time here. You may be more successful since your DD has completed Saxon. My current Dd took 3/4 of Key to Algebra, but learning these concepts is taking a while (to be fair to Video text.. my husband has been traveling and it may be more due to his lack of time). My mathy husband thinks it is the best program and that is why he is teaching again. I find it a bit confusing, but that is just me. ( I don't care about the why, I just want it done). Good luck with whatever you decide.
  11. I was eyeing refrigerators for years. Last year around Thanksgiving my dream fridge went on sale at $1000 off and it was the best purchase I have made for the kitchen .We have a french door model that has four separate doors. We use 3/4 of the machine as a refrigerator and only 1/4 as freezer. We already had a stand alone freezer, but I wanted lots of fridge space along with water and ice. Works like a charm.
  12. I have to shake my head at the couple in the OP 's coffee example. So integrity is only worth $4.95? Hopefully, they will get a little wiser.
  13. Somethings that have helped my family: Pressing above and on the lip right above/on the cupid's bow Anything that activates proprioception in the mouth.....straws and drinks, small lollypops, food Long trips...we once had an MD who gave us a topical compounded med that worked great...but it has been too many years to recall. He knew it because his family was prone to,motion sickness and he had sick kids. Since then our kids are older and the car sick ones get motion sickness pills when they want. Sometimes, it is necessary even after we are out of the car as motion does a number on your senory system if you are driving on hills or something. Seems to be worse with heat.
  14. There is a difference between racism and prejudices of other kind. They are all awful, but the subject becomes very broad. It becomes how can we be unkind to each other. If there are no obvious external differences, people will find something else be it religion, language, whatever to use as an excuse as an us vs. them.
  15. Don't laugh, but we use the Smarty pants womens complete or prenatal...from Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/SmartyPants-PreNatal-Complete-Gummy-Vitamins/dp/B00VFYYAC4/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1478987824&sr=8-1&keywords=smarty%2Bpants%2Bprenatal&th=1 Or https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01B1JPXBE/ref=s9_acsd_al_bw_c_x_1_w?th=1 No one is pregnant at my house, but I actually enjoy having the gummies and one of my daughters also needs the methyl b12 as well as folate vs. folic acid. The Prenatals are very sweet, the Women's a little less so. There you have it, I have the taste buds of a ten year old and I don't enjoy swallowing pills.
  16. Well, it doesn't raise the tution or fees. But,yep,I know that it may make a person ineligible or eligible for only small amounts of federal aid. My parents didn't contribute to my colllege education at all, but my finacial aid (or lack of it, in my case) was based on their income. I am not telling you what to believe, but I don't think paying for or not paying for college is a moral decision.
  17. Could be hormonal. I wish I knew. I have it too. Hops is a very nasty tasting herb, but works a little . Methelyated B vitamins help my family, but i am a bit embarrassed to say they have to be gummies. Good luck
  18. Seems like most people who feel that the mainstream educational system doesn't work for them would homeschool. I would think that would definitely include the most liberal as well as the most conservative, the most religious and the least.
  19. nm Sorry, Mercy, didn't see that anyone read it when I removed it. Moonsong,I was just encouraging you gently to think about editing the last part. It is a time to be gracious.
  20. If it is in anyone's budget, i would reccomend an instant pot. i know there are lots of threads on this, but I wish had one when I was having little ones. There are facebook recipe groups and cookbooks ect. It would help both your husband and you when you are feeling better. After breakfast, you can load it up and start it, forget it until lunch(food stays warm for 12 hours).Eat,then wash the stainless steel bowl out (super easy to wash as you are using some liquid to cook with- also only one pan!) and load it up for dinner. It is like a crock pot on steriods. I use frozen meat in it all of the time. Using the freezer and pantry items helps cut way back on grocery trips. It is so much easier to just go get a little dairy and produce. You don't have to time anything for when the baby is hungry, sleeping, or whatever. My very picky family enjoys the food. It does make three loud beeps when it is done as a fair warning:) It is a practical gift , but maybe you need some pampering.
  21. We just had the traffic master installed in our main house areas. I have had it for a few months now. Absolutely love it. Two large dogs, and 3 kids still at home, so there is quite a bit of traffic. You will need felt pads under furniture as we noticed our chairs scratching the floor. I can't find the scratches now, but I though it had made some. Our floor is made to look old..so scratches will just give it character. Best decison ever...and I didn't get it on sale!
  22. Sorry, posted at the same time as above poster. Here is a link from a Texas school . Dual credit students are excluded, but I would google his CC for their policies. Deadlines for withdrawing are coming up really fast. This week and next at many schools. Good luck with whatever you decide. http://www.laredo.edu/online_catalog/six-drop-limit-imposed-by-the-texas-legislature.htm
