  1. Eeek I just glanced over and saw a large pile of library books on my sofa. The thought of bed bugs realllly freaks me out.
  2. Your MIL went into your purse to find the phone then answered it? Oh my gosh, that would annoy me! I think you should have the right to whack her over the head with the purse. Oops, sorry. I think my own angst regarding my MIL has crept into my answer. :P
  3. If he decides to go for a new iPhone he might want to wait a few weeks since a new version is due out at any time!
  4. I was adopted as an infant in a very closed adoption. I have been thinking about searching for my birth family for a number of years and have decided that this will be the year that I search more actively. My daughter was born in Guatemala and adopted by us in 2005. We have recently located her birth family in Guatemala and have begun to build a relationship in hopes of traveling to visit with them next year.
  5. You can get an unlocked iPhone now and there are rumors of the new iPhone being released for Sprint too. Who knows. Hubby and I have AT&T and two iPhones and we love them!
  6. My neighbor wears a lot of those types of tops and people are always asking her when she's due. She's not a big gal at all but those tops are not flattering on her. I worked at a grocery store when I was in college and asked a customer when she was due. She snarled at me and shouted "my baby is 6 weeks old". I felt awful. Since then my policy is that I don't ask about pregnancy unless the baby is crowning at that very moment.
  7. My 6 year old had extremely long and thick hair. It would be wet nearly all day if we washed it in the morning. I was really tired of managing it and she was whining more and more about it yet was hesitant about cutting it. I started showing her websites for hair donation and she warmed to the idea. Finally in May after her big Spring Gala for dance, she decided to donate. It's SO much easier to manage minus that 12 inches and it's adorable!
  8. My daughter is adopted from Guatemala. We brought her home when she was 6 months old. I was in Target a few days after getting home and was so exhausted. I could tell that an older lady was following me and looking and I kept thinking "why doesn't she just ask?" In the mean time, another lady said "Oh your baby is beautiful. where is she from?". I said "Guatemala" then she asked me how we would understand her when she started to speak. I was confused at first then realized the lady thought she would speak spanish. I explained that she was only 6 months old and would learn english. I walked away trying not laugh when the other lady..the stalker..appeared in front of me. She gave me a disapproving look then sort of grumbled out "is her father like a mexican or something?" I was irritated and really just wanted to buy diapers in peace. It wasn't my finest moment but I grumbled back "I really have no idea who her father is" then wandered away ...leaving the lady with her jaw on the floor.
  9. We run a dehumidifier in our basement too. We got pretty tired of having to empty it so often so the hubby connected a little hose and ran it to the drain near our washer and dryer.
  10. We got a pet rat about a month ago and he's a fabulous little pet. He's in a pretty large cage in my daughter's bedroom and they seem quite happy to share that room. He's very friendly and loves to be handled. He happily comes out of the cage and runs around in the room. We pet him, hand feed him and carry him around. I've been cleaning his cage once a week with spot cleaning in between so that isn't too bad. I was totally freaked out by the idea of a rat at first but I'm so glad I researched it more and went for it!
  11. As an insufferable Mac fan, I vote for iPhone. I've had some version of the iPhone since the beginning and I have loved them all. I got the iPhone 4 last year via pre order on the first day available. I had it for about 2 weeks when it got knocked into one of our bathroom sinks that was filled with water for Barbies to swim in. We didn't notice and went to the Y for the entire day. I got home and found the phone in the bottom of the sink and realized it had been under water all day. I called Apple and they made an appointment for me at an Apple store genius bar the following day. I went in, told them what happened and waited while the gal went to the back. She came out with a new phone, activated it, handed it to me and said "have a great day". There was no charge at all. I was shocked as I expected to pay. I was so impressed with the level of customer service!
  12. My daughter loves coloring on a sheet of paper then using scissors to cut out crazy shapes. She then uses glue to attach the crazy shapes to another paper to make what she calls "wild and crazy art masterpieces". She also does a lot of bead stringing, paper dolls and Lego building.
  13. For me, it's about the tone. I can look beyond ignorance and curiousity but sometimes there is obviously rudeness going on. As for my daughter, it's often hurtful for her. She's 6 and going through a very difficult time with processing information about her adoption. She has been talking a lot about how maybe I would love a child more if they looked like me or if they "grew in my uterus". Every time someone asks questions about her race, dark skin, hair color, etc it brings up how different she looks and it leads to sleep issues, discussions about her birth family, birth culture and her questioning me about my desire to have a child who looks like me. It's also become clear to her lately that some people ask rude questions because they are prejudiced against people who look like her. It's painful stuff. So while I get that people are curious or whatever, it can be hurtful for the child who is standing there hearing the questions and comments.
  14. Ugh, sorry. I know how icky it can be. My daughter is Guatemalan and hubby and I adopted her when she was an infant. She's 6 now and we've had our share of comments. I'm very fair, red hair and blue eyes and she's very dark brown with black hair and nearly black eyes. I had her in a cart at Target once when she was about 15 months old and some lady was staring and I felt like she was following me around. She finally ended up in front of me and said "Now sweetie, is her father really dark like a mexican or something?" She had the most disgusted look on her face and I was SO tired and annoyed that day that I just said "I have NO idea who her father is" then walked away. I felt sort of bad after but it's funny to me now.
  15. I think that churches in my area are in some sort of sign competition as there are often really cute or funny signs. My daughter thought it was hilarious the other day when we drove by a church with a large grassy area that was filllled with dandelions and their sign said "free dandelions" She wanted me to pull over so we could pick some since our yard doesn't have any. :tongue_smilie:
  16. We have a PlayMor set and we love it! It was a bit cheaper than Rainbow but comparable quality. My hubby and I play on it with our daughter all the time and we often have 6 children here playing on it. I often tell people that it's the best money I ever spent!
  17. Riviera Maya, Mexico has a ton of very child friendly all inclusive resorts. We LOVE that area!
  18. We have sponsored children through Compassion for many years and find them to be excellent!
  19. We've done a lot of remodeling over the last few years and it was tough at the time but definitely worth it! We have hardwood everywhere and I love it. It's so easy to keep clean and my allergies are much less of a problem now. You can use an engineered hardwood on a slab. You should definitely talk to a very knowledgeable flooring company so that you end up with products that work well for your situation! My hubby owns a flooring company and gets A LOT of calls from people who need things fixed or replaced after another company messes it all up. Quite often people are sold products that are not ideal for their application or they are installed improperly. Good luck in your remodeling!
  20. We bought a set with a large table, six chairs, a small bistro type table and two ottomans at Sam's Club about 7 years ago. I think we paid around $600. It has been fantastic! People always comment about how comfortable and how pretty it is.
