  1. I woke up thinking today was Wednesday, so that tells you show my week has been? Guess it's time to break out an actual calendar in addition to the planners.
  2. Many people pull a smallish car behind their RV . Others think its easier to buy a nice truck and pull a camper. When we were shopping years ago, there were more choices with 5th wheel types over the RV.
  3. The SUNY system is requiring some staff to vaccinate. As others have explained to you, labor rules restrict them from requiring faculty, but the profs and on campus staff will be tested weekly and will mask. SUNY Upstate medical is requiring their staff to vaccinate if they engage directly with patients( masking/weekly testing for others). SUNY also owns 4 or 5 nursing homes for military veterans and their employees are required to vaccinate. They also have a #30daystovax, or some such similar thing going on, for both students and employees. I hear it constantly on local radio stations. I would also make an educated guess that a great deal of their professors are already vaccinated. I think SUNY has had students on campus for the past year, so they probably feel pretty much in the groove with making the best of a cruddy situation. In addition, over half of their campuses were vaccination sites for the public! Seriously, you can not drive more than half an hour in the state without being near a SUNY. Ok, I think I found an answer for you. https://uupinfo.org/contract/ Looks like their labor contract runs from 2016 to 2022. Maybe sometving about vaccine requirements will be part of the next negotiation.
  4. Sweetwater.com has absolutely the best customer service. They reply to any question asked and have very fast shipping. I bought a lovely Cordoba concert Ukelele from them. Really, check them out.
  5. The former Whitehouse Homeland Security adviser to the former VP is on Twitter as Olivia of Troye. Moderator, is it alright to link her thread here? If not, then I would hope people would look at her Twitter to read what her experiences were concerning the SIV issues being discussed in this thread. https://twitter.com/OliviaTroye/status/1428740865665679361?ref_src=twsrc^tfw|twcamp^tweetembed|twterm^1428740865665679361|twgr^|twcon^s1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fforums.welltrainedmind.com%2Findex.php%3Fapp%3Dcoremodule%3Dsystemcontroller%3Dembedurl%3Dhttps%3A%2F%2Ftwitter.com%2FOliviaTroye%2Fstatus%2F1428740865665679361%3Fs%3D19
  6. I have these and they're very comfortable https://www.bornshoes.com/Product.aspx?ProductID=18853 Really, I've liked all of the Born shoes i've bought, except for one pair of clog type that had a sole crack within 6 months.
  7. How about anything by Michael Pollan? In Defense of Food, Omnivore Dilemma, Botany of Desire. I think there are documentaries for at least 2 of those on PBS Cooked is one from Pollan, I think it's on Netflix. There was one we saw a year or so ago called Healed, it may still be on Netflix. It was quite heavy with woo-woo type pseudoscience, but it may give you the chance for some good discussions with your son.
  8. I did this, as a do-er and a receiver, for 4 years, for band class. Except it would happen closer to 3 or 4 am, and we'd go from the homes to the school and then on to a donut shop or IHOP. My parents didn't mind us being driven by older teens, but they did want to know their names and parents'names. After 9th grade, everyone in class seemed to be familiar enough with all the families. Most, maybe all the girls knew in advance, in order to have combed hair and cute pajamas. The boys were another story. In this case, I'd tell the girl and let her ride with them, if she wanted. Getting driven by mommy might not be the best. But I do understand parents having gut feelings, especially whether you are or are not the helicopter type to begin with.I would also wants to know names and address of the home where the tents will be. Will you be picking her up at a certain time? I can't imagine waking up in the middle of the night and then being expected to eat lukewarm pizza at the crack of dawn. Shows my age! Last edit! I wouldn't like the costume part. I thought the fun was supposed to be going out in the middle of the night in your pajamas.
  9. I added chipotle sauce to some honey that we bought at the farmers market, then put it on shrimp tacos. It was so delicious, and I thought, until I looked at up, that I'd discovered something no one else had!
  10. American taxpayers have spent almost 108 billion dollars on contracted services in Afghanistan. Why on earth did we ever think we could actually "win"? Our politicians on all sides of the aisle were certainly not thinking that way. This was and will still be a money making military industrial complex scheme.
  11. Franklin Graham is one of the biggest "celebrity" religious leaders around, lol. The man has superglued his lips to Trump's backside. Definitely not anything like the man his father was. I'd say he, too, deserves zero of Anything from Anyone who gives a flip about getting through this pandemic. As a Christian, he makes me cringe.
  12. I'd get an over the door hook. I have some quick dry ones from Martha Stewart that I ordered from Macy's that work well, but I am not in a super high humidity area. I know there are some popular brands used for camping. They are thin and can be packed very small.
  13. I'm so sorry, the medical marijuana situation across the country is very upsetting and lopsided and overly political. But I am happy, with this ketamine news. I had 2 relatives pass from ALS many years ago. Knowing that this drug may actually preserve muscle function and slow the progression is good news. And as an aside, the documentary about Ady Barkan and his Be a Hero campaign to vote for leaders who will protect and better your health care is coming out his week, iirc. It's called Not Going Quietly
  14. There are places called Bright Red Bookshelf in the Buffalo and Rochester area, but the main one is in Ithaca. I am in Pittsford. They may also go by Red Bookshelf or Little Red Bookshelf. I think they still accept books for kids at several places. It's part of the Family Reading Partnership.
  15. May I ask where you live, general area? Sorry if that is intrusive. I can tell you are in NY, but didn't know where.
  16. Some nice colored pencils and a good quality coloring book or a drawing pad, for them to use while mom is helping one and the other one is sooo bored!
  17. How about some type of clay that air dries? My kids liked to make their own board games with hours spent arguing about what the rules would be, and then they'd make game piece figurines with the clay. They'd also design their own pokemon style animals. Hours wills also be easily spent painting them, and also painting plastic army men. If you do not mind the mess, rubbing colored chalk in bowls of sand, and then layering the colors in jars is probably doable for their age. Maybe a Lite-Brite? Or two, so they won't have to share.
  18. My paternal grandmother was an only child. She lost her mom to the flu of 1918. Her dad hired her out to another family as a maid, then left. She was beaten and humiliated daily. I think she was 11. My maternal grandfather lost his mom during the epidemic. He was 9. He and his dad traveled across Oklahoma and Texas and hired themselves out as cattle workers.
  19. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=343072367180289&id=100044325854853 I loved both of these for years. I was so happy to see them come together for a bit, and to see a grown up Calvin nearly made me cry.

I was just going to say something similar. All of the elderly that I'm related to have multiple problems with their teeth or dentures. Carrots and frankly, even broccoli, would be sonething they'd most likely skip due to difficulties chewing and having broccoli bits stuck in their teeth. Potatoes and rice, or beans would be a good alternative. It may not sound like a good pairing of food types to us, but tasty and healthy food is always welcome.
  21. Howard Feed &Wax wood polish and conditioner. I have used it for years, a local antiques dealer told me it is the easiest and best. Amazon carries it, of course.
  22. Worse. Someone said the Huntsville area was at least sixty percent vaccinated, but my friend had told me repeatedly that it is much lower. The last time we texted she said it was barely above forty. I do believe that cities with universities have higher numbers of vaccinated. I am certain that is the same in regard to my county.
  23. 72.6 in the 18 and over population in my county with at least one shot. That is for the county, I do not know how to find it by zip code.
  24. Thanks. My best friend lives in Huntsville, and her numbers just didn't jive with what someone was claiming here.
