  1. Awe, I'm sorry! If you want to try again, just apply with a different email address. Sometimes it just depends on who you get. I was marked off points for doing something that other teachers and even VIPKID's own training videos told me to do! I thought that was pretty unfair, but thankfully I DID pass. while I'm sure there's a rubric, it also seems to be based a lot on one person's opinion. I found the mock/practicums very difficult because it is not a real child in front of you. I'm much better as a teacher to a child than pretending another adult is a child. If you want, I can send you the info that I'm sending everyone else about the major things they are looking for during those mocks, if you want to try again.
  2. We did paleo meatloaf, chicken curry, salmon with vegetable side dishes, and chicken salad were my go-to meals every week. Variations of sautéed veges and eggs every day, of course.
  3. It's legit!!! This is my first week with VIPKID. It's awesome. It's FUN! I love it. Classes are 25 min long. I'm making $9/class or 18/hr this month. Next month, with the incentives (teach 45 classes/month), I'm positive I'll be making $20/hr, all before my kids wake up. You are still paid if the child doesn't show up to class. Such a great job for homeschool moms (and dads)! I opened up my time slots on Sunday and I was completely booked for the next two weeks within 24 hrs! That's not usually the case with new teachers, but I'm pretty sure I know what I did right. It's an amazing company and curriculum (this was important to me). You have to have a Bachelor's and 500 hours experience teaching children K-12. Homeschooling experience counts too. The interview and mock classes/training take about a week to complete. Edited to add (8 weeks later): There is only a 10% hiring rate. If you would like help getting hired and getting bookings, you can use my referral code and I would be glad to give you tips and practice through Skype. Everyone that practices through Skype with me has been hired so far. Practice is really important! However, I am so busy helping people that I am only able to help if you use me as your referral so I get paid for my time with you. I get a bonus for every applicant that becomes a teacher. My referral code is 02CI16. Thanks!! And yes, I'm making $20/hr and I'm booked immediately and I LOVE LOVE LOVE my job! It is so fun! Go here for FAQ and to apply: https://www.vipkidteachers.com/?refereeId=3942474
  4. My kids earn money for doing chores and I get to approve the purchases at this point. No candy. I try to encourage them to buy things that are nice that they have to save for, but that doesn't usually happen. I think when they are teens and can drive they can spend how they like.
  5. Oh my introduction is usually, "Hi, my name is Heidi and I cannot remember names to save my life, so please don't be offended when I ask you 3 or more times tonight." ((Smile)) I'm really bad and it's embarrassing, but I genuinely cannot get names to stick in my brain.
  6. Where I'm at in western Washington we've had snow on the ground for over a month. Nope, not a snow day here! I'm so ready for this stuff to melt.
  7. I can finally post in this thread! I've had surgery and haven't been able to workout for 3 weeks, but it's felt like 3 months. I can only do lower body for the next 2-3 weeks, and then I can ease back into everything else. So I did walking lunges with a 14lb wall ball, box steps, calf raises, that sit/hold against a wall for 1 min at a time, air squats and front squats with 35lb bar. It was wonderful to use my muscles again. I feel great! I just can't wait to work my arms. They are losing all definition :( I'm also doing Whole 30 this month and it's going great!
  8. I probably would have done the same thing. It's hard to be open to people around you as well as causious. It's hard to find a balance.
  9. Newly-wed, I was so excited to make french bread just like my mom. She even made me a recipe book to follow. Her directions said "salt generously." It was not edible.
  10. Wow, I would do no school for three months and soak in Germany! There's way too much to see and do in only 3 months.
  11. Repose gray looks blue in my house. I found (valspar) accessible beige is our perfect grey in every room.
  12. He sounds pretty awesome! My dh isn't very creative either, so I always tell him all I want is flowers and chocolate to take the pressure off of him. There are a million other qualities I think are great about him, none of which include his thoughtfulness on an anniversary/birthday, and that's ok by me.
  13. My girlfriends recently brought to my attention something called a tinkle razor on amazon, but you have to make sure it is actually the tinkle razor and not a knock off. They swear by it for facial hair. I have not used it yet.
  14. Oh my religion has beautiful things to say about this topic. But I just had surgery and I'm all drugged up at the moment. Hopefully and Mormon will pop in and talk about it.
  15. Yes, I want to be a cool mom who plays games with my kids, but I rarely do. I bought a few games for Christmas that we've played a few times: clue, apples to apples, and another one I can't think of the name at the moment. Yatzee! For my older kids. The Littles like spot it.
  16. My mom got a fb msg.from one of my dad's ex wives that my mom never knew about. He was married to this other woman before he married my mom. That makes six wives total for him now! This woman wanted his phone number and mom gladly gave it her. (My parents have been divorced for a long time.)
  17. We downloaded it to our pc and they can play without getting online. They have to earn minecraft time, and they only get up to an hour to play once a week. We are very against video games here too,so this has been our compromise.
  18. Cold hard cash. I'd buy my own clothes with it.
  19. My husband had been waking everyone for the last few weeks and it has really improved everyone's attitude and the flow of our day.
  20. I LOVE banana and mayo sandwiches.
  21. I think fsbo is a better way of selling, personally. I've sold two houses fsbo and one with a realtor, which i regret. I currently own two houses, one of which I'm renting out. We'll be selling both fsbo soon and I've already got people inquiring about them through word of mouth. So I think you are wise to try fsbo first. It's really not hard to be as savvy as a realtor if you do a little research. I haven't been impressed with realtors I've used in the past. I usually am more knowledgeable of the properties than they are by the time I have to use one to open doors.
  22. I agree with this! Good luck!
  23. Ann Taylor is 50% off and free shipping. I bought a bunch of nice shirts in an attempt to dress nicer than my usual jeans and tshirt. JCREW is 40% off. I bought a bathing suit and a pencil skirt. Old Navy is 50% off. I bought jeans.
