  1. I think I could word this in a nice way. Thank you.
  2. You're right. I think I'm just totally grossed out. I remember when I was a teen he commented on the size of my chest; it made me feel uncomfortable, but he never did anything else or say anything else about it. I was well-endowed at an early age, and now my oldest daughter is as well. And all this stuff with younger women... I'm just wary. He is in Georgia and I'm in Colorado so it would be a stay of a few nights. I'm almost positive he would not do or say anything inappropriate, but then again I'm nite really sure who he is anymore.
  3. My dad has been married 7 times that I know of. His last wife of 20 years left him this past spring. She was 33 years younger than him, 8 years older than me. He is currently 76. When she divorced him, he went a little crazy. He got involved in internet scams trying to buy a wife from Africa. He posted two women that he was sure were real that he was supposedly in love with and were flying to America to marry him. The first one looked about my age, 36. When that fell through (because it was a scam) he posted about another woman that looked about 18-early 20s that he was flying to America to marry. That also didn't happen. I was horrified as I watched all of this unfold. 33 years age difference was one thing and I had a long time to adjust to her. But 50 years difference is obscene, imo. My oldest daughter is 13! I used to call him every month, but when he started doing the scams I stopped calling because he would not listen to reason. He didn't even notice I had stopped calling. He finally married a girl frm Atlanta that is 28 years old. Now that his personal life is somewhat stable, he called me up after about 9 months and wants to visit his grandkids and for us to meet his new wife. My husband is deployed and I don't want my dad anywhere near my children, especially with my husband gone, and I sure as heck don't want to meet the girl he married. Am I over reacting? I love my dad, but he has proven to be a freaking crazy pervert. Yet he acts as if nothing has changed. If I tell him how I really feel, it will break his heart. What would you do?
  4. Six kids, so family of 8.. We bought a Ford transit 15 passenger, used, this past spring because my oldest kids are getting tall. I don't need 15 seats, but it's what was on the lot and I love it.
  5. I posted about this in another thread about 8 months ago, but I thought I'd start my own thread about it now because it's such a great opportunity for homeschool moms/dads. I didn't see anything against posting stuff like this, so if I missed it, delete it and I apologize. But seriously, this is a great opportunity and so much fun. Here's my spiel: Link deleted by moderator.
  6. This past weekend I had something go wrong with my health, so I Googled what it might be. And then I read horror stories of what it could be.... So I went to the doctor in an emotional mess and demanded that they run blood work on me. Nobody took me seriously. Everyone said it was nothing. And... it was nothing. So yep, Why did I do that???? Anyway, I'm going to a friend's house for Thanksgiving and I'm bringing two apple pies, stuffing, and a green side dish I haven't decided on yet. I don't really want to go, but we're going anyway.
  7. Lingo Bus is an online one on one tutor that is fun to do. I've never used it, but I'm a tutor for Vipkid, and it's the exact same format.
  8. I don't drink for religious reasons, but I would eat the pie. However I'm pretty sure many of my LDS friends would not. Just ask.
  9. Serving others and doing good is the secret to happiness. My husband just started another year-long deployment less than a week ago. I've been an emotional basket-case this week, feeling lonely and overwhelmed and missing him terribly; the first week is always the hardest. But those moments when I decided to pull out of myself, notice someone around me, and offer a compliment or a hand, my depression and sadness go away immediately. The world is again a happy place to be, even without my best friend by my side. I think this applies to many situations. Serve others! Eating ice-cream and watching The Office helps too, but just a little.
  10. No I wouldn't, but I am! :( it's going to be part of our family reunion this year and I am so not thrilled.
  11. I just wanted to post a quick update on my job as an online ESL teacher. As of today I've worked for Vipkid for 101 days and have taught 376 classes. I'm still loving it! I just came back from a vacation to Universal Studios with my daughters from my Vipkid paycheck. I have regular students that book with me that I've fallen in love with!. Such sweet students and parents that I get to interact with is definitely a benefit I didn't expect. Check out the FAQ on the link in my first post and if you have any additional questions, I'll be happy to answer.
  12. Oh thank you. I'll look into that.
  13. I haven't sold stuff for 4 years, and way back then we used PayPal. This lady that wants to buy my stuff says she has no idea what I'm taking about and that she is used to receiving an invoice to her email account. What is she talking about?
  14. I'm not sure what defines "mental illness," but that's how I think of my father. Creepy, crazy old man = mental illness right? Thinking the 35 year old model in Ghana that he has been emailing and sending money to (an obvious scam) is in love with his 75 year old toothless self = mental illness. Ya?
  15. Yahoo!! Congratulations! Update your experience with vipkid here if you'd like. If you have questions on how to get bookings you can message me. I would love to help you out. It's such a great job :) I'm glad you tried again and got offered more money!
  16. Ok, it's not the end of April yet, but I thought I'd update my experience with VIPKID anyway. I still love teaching these kids. A lot of VIPKID teachers list "the kids" as the thing they love the most about VIPKID, and it's true. The kids are pretty awesome/sweet/funny/smart. You just fall in love with them. They are what make the teaching time just fly by. They are what make this job FUN. There are occasionally kids that are not fun. I had a student today that wanted me to know, through her actions, that she thinks learning English is the most boring thing in the world. She was very smart and the lesson was way too easy for her, so she would mumble her answers in monotone and not crack a smile. But even those occasional difficult students bring joy. By the end of the lesson she was smiling and laughing. I was able to reach her! It is just so rewarding. I'm starting to get repeat students, so I'm building a personal relationship with these sweet children, which is rewarding too. On top of LOVING the actual work of teaching, I'm making awesome money. My stats so far for April 1-April 18: I've taught 83 classes. I've made $834, which is $10/class, $20/hour. I also have $20 in bonus money for trial kids signing up for VIPKID after I taught them. My open teaching times are 100% booked within 24hours. Pretty sweet! The VIPKID company is amazing. They are constantly evolving to make the company grow, to make the teaching experience better. I get to sign up for free teaching seminars online, where we are all in a virtual classroom, speaking/seeing each other, and learning from a mentor on how to be a better teacher. It has just opened up my eyes on how awesome the online learning format can be. This is just an amazing company. I hope there will be more online language learning companies that are modeled after VIPKID because it works so well! Anyway, if you have questions, feel free to message me!
  17. OK here's my VIPKID March update! I worked 13 days in March, 33 classes, and I made $360.50. That would be $10.92/class (25 min) or $21.85/hr. Plus $35 bonus money (2 trial kids signed on and $25 for becoming a teacher in March). This is how pay works (it's a little confusing). After your interview/mock class, they tell you how much they will offer as your base pay, based on your mock performance and teaching experience. It will be between $7-$9. Then you get $1 for every class that you show up to on time. Plus $0.50 for every class if you teach 30 classes a month, or $1 for every class if you teach 45 classes a month. You get an extra $2 for every class that is booked with you with less than 24 hrs notice. You are paid even if the kid doesn't show up to class, unless it is a trial class (the kid is trying out VIPKID for free). In that case, if they don't show up you only get paid half your base pay, but it still counts toward total classes for the month. And if a trial class kid signs up with VIPKID, you get a $5 bonus. And every month comes with a different monetary incentive to make things exciting! April's incentive is to encourage us to teach more classes during the peak, peak times (4am-7am pst) than we did in march. Since I'm new, I'm going to be making $240 extra in April! March's incentive was based on how many 5-apple reviews we could get in March. I didn't get enough to get any $$, but 2000 teachers got either $50, $75, or $100 bonus. In *pacific standard time*, teaching times range from 6pm-7am daily. Prime time is 3am-7am daily, and 6pm-7am Friday and Saturday. And like I mentioned earlier, prime prime time is 4am-6am pst. The are no minimum classes you have to teach. I have learned that my experience so far is not typical. Most people don't get hired when they apply (6-10%). If they do, most don't get bookings immediately like I did. It usually takes a few weeks or months to get their schedule filled. I think I know what I did right to get so lucky though. So if you are interested, please get in touch with me and I will help you out. I really enjoy teaching these kids. We are encouraged to have fun and be silly to make the learning fun, which makes the teaching fun. My husband is even thinking about becoming a VIPKID when he retires from the military because the pay rocks and he can work from home. I do think male teachers are very popular with the Chinese. I'll keep updating and let you know how my April goes, too!
  18. It won't let me msg you, but here is an example of a class: https://www.youtube....yWbNekEY&t=215s. If you want more info, let me know! I can email you or something.
  19. Not really. You open the 30 min time slots you are willing to teach. Then the parents come in and book your slot. Once you're booked, you're committed. So you could open 500-530, 600-630, 700-730 if you wanted so you can get little breaks between. One of the incentives is a 24-hr notice deal that might work for you. Say you don't open any times on friday. It's Thursday and you decide you will open all the slots from 4am to 8am with only 24 hour notice. If they get booked, you get an extra $2 for that class. I'm not sure yet how reliable the 24-hour notice thing is yet, or the best way to work that incentive because I haven't been there long enough (1 week!).
