  1. I’m not arguing with you, just agreeing and adding that many out here lose water when we lose power because they go hand in hand being on a well.
  2. Absolutely your responsibility. I’m living in the midst of it now. I’m helping neighbors who made little to no prep. Granted, there is only so much prep that Texans can do for -4 temps, but so many did nothing, and that baffles me. No extra drinking water, no can goods, no wood or charcoal. No extra diapers or food for their little ones. We have banded together and helped one another, but part of that may be because we live more rural- though even in the city I had the preparedness mindset. I’m definitely not prepared for an apocalypse situation, and food storage is taking a hit because I’m feeding more than I bargained for, but we are getting through this and I have compassion for those who were not even somewhat prepared, I still believe there was ample warning that this was coming people should not be freaking out there isn’t another load of bread or milk on the shelves. I know that’s not a popular opinion. And I do still believe that it should be looked into but we need to accept some personal responsibility as well.
  3. Yep. My “baby” started college in January, she does all her school there. I have homeschooled 4 children all the way through. It’s been a beautiful season I will never regret. Now I just have to figure out what I want to be now that I’m a grown up. 😉 I’m considering getting my RN.
  4. I have used FAB and Trim Healthy Mama cbd. There is a local cbd store with products I want to go in to and try.
  5. Sorry, I’m on my phone and it didn’t relay properly. Tik Tok is a music/video app where kids make short videos to popular song clips. Apparently, one his viral ones right now is his fans lip sync a clip of “Lucid Dreams” that talks about seizing while dancing and then pretending to have a seizure. I don’t know anything about him or his music.
  6. Same as Quill I don’t follow that music genre... but my daughter mentioned it today and she isn’t convinced that there isn’t something fishy going on. Apparently there was a Tik Tok thing with one of his songs and seizures... and commenting on early death... but I don’t know.
  7. We do typical Thanksgiving, tamales Christmas Eve, cinnamon rolls Christmas morning, and steaks and baked potatoes for Christmas dinner.
  8. One I haven’t seen mentioned that I have enjoyed from time to time is Casey Ho program Blogilates.
  9. I have used THM off and on since the first book came out (5 years?) I have dropped weight and become healthier. I think one of the “issues” with THM is that they give guidelines but few hard and fast rules. They are striving to make it simple, but in reality it leaves many confused. They try to make it a way of life- not just s diet- so you get people who are eating loads of things that are fine for occasional use- all the time and wondering why they aren’t seeing changes. They talk quite a bit about superfoods and health, and choices in our eating, but if you go to the Facebook page you see mostly recipes for heavy desserts and cheese laden dinner recipes. It’s all in how you approach it.
  10. Going through this with my daughter now. She was diagnosed last month, she is 18. Never had them in childhood. Then today was scary... last night (well 1:30 this morning) she had just came in from work and texted and said she felt like she was about to have a seizure but it felt different. Sure enough I go in her room and she was having one. I stay with her for an hour while she had a couple- but then she relaxed and went to sleep and I went to bed. Nothing unusual except the length of time. This morning she didn’t wake up. I left her alone and went back later and she still wasn’t awake. So I decided to wake her up. She wasn’t responding- Her sister (who is in nursing school) did a few “painful tests” and she doesn’t respond, but convulsed a little more- hers are not big convulsions- more of twitches. So we took to the emergency room. I called her boyfriend and he confirmed no drugs or alcohol last night which I figured when she was home early and drove- she’s not known for this, but I had to make sure.. After a bit at the hospital she did wake up and is now back to her normal self. She will follow up with her neurologist, but we have no answers. Its scary.
  11. Very timely topic and I love all the varying responses. We have 3 adult children, 2 are still in the home, but getting a house together in a month in town to be closer to work, college, and friends. As long as they are being responsible we try not to impose too many rules. I like the analogy of going from rule setting parents to advisors. Such a difficult time and transition, but I’d like to have relationship with these young people I’ve raised and rules aren’t the best path for that in my observation- even if I don’t agree with all their decisions. They know where we stand, and how we believe, it’s their turn to make decisions and have convictions.
  12. I can’t “love” this enough. This has been my mantra as well.
  13. One daughter uses and prefers a laptop, the other a chromebook. 🤷‍♀️
  14. I thought the Brave Learner went really well with Rethinking School. I have been homeschooling for 18 years and am finishing up my last child in high school so I didn’t “need” the book, but I found it refreshing. Not “unschooly”, but not overly strict either.
  15. We have used and love the Seresto Collar- it’s 8 months ( we are in Texas so I do 6 months just to be safe) and they are $60 each from Walmart or Tractor Supply. My daughter volunteers at a vet (4H) and so we use Nexguard now (what they recommend) and we get it through them.
  16. I never used it, but I had a friend that did and it was her favorite year. I loved the notebooks they made, and maps they drew. I would have jumped at the chance to use it if it had been the right season for us- but it wasn’t- so I just admired their notebooks. 😂
  17. When I do this it’s $30 a day for one child if in diapers- $25 a day for everyone else- or each additional child. We are in a more rural area, and that’s a bit on the high side. I see ads all the time for $20 a day.
  18. I have been using it for almost 2 months now. I didn’t think it was making much of a difference at first, but I can tell the difference in my sleep now (thanks Fitbit) and my morning back pain is much less. I have also found I deal with stress much better (my kids say this- and they don’t want me to run out) so it’s working better than I thought. 😂
  19. Thanks.... 😂 watching episode 1 now...
  20. Your topic is very timely for me. We have been at the same church and raised our children in this small church for the last 13 years. My husband likes the men and is plugged in- my daughters and I are over the women’s drama and the “everyone knows everything” atmosphere. I was just thinking a bigger church would be nice- but not sure now reading the responses. I just keep praying God will let us know what to do.
  21. My daughter started this program this year. She is really enjoying it so far. She is 15. If we had known about it sooner we would have started sooner, but I think the minimum age is 12- but I’m not sure about that. She is volunteering with a great vet here in town and has learned so much. We are just continuing to let her lead, but she’s pretty sure she wants to pursue the full veterinarian degree. If you want to PM me I can send you pictures of a few pages from the book so you can see a sample. I don’t get on here very often anymore, but I will have time to “hang out” more on winter break.
  22. Yes! Me too.... many years this has been a tradition here as well.
  23. We have a family history of service, and after some research my son decided to join the Navy. The recruiter we had was very upfront and helpful. The “getting in” wasn’t an issue- the level of security clearance he needed for his job was a little more difficult being homeschooled, but not over the top. The hardes part was the lady who kept asking me what curriculum provider we used for our homeschool- I kept telling her there were several we didn’t just use 1 company, she needed a name to fill in her blank and I was being “difficult”- so I gave her a name of a popular curriculum and that was that. ? My son has done well and enjoys his job. He has a military personality though- get it done- etc... He has been in 3 years now. I do agree with the comment above about 100 young people all living under one roof- their is accountability, but not all is seen. My son has driven many a drunk puking sailor back to base when they called for help. My next daughter is considering joining once she gets her nursing degree as an officer- she wants to serve- and she thinks it would be awesome that her brother would have to salute her. ? my middle girl isn’t the right personality fit for military service, but my 15 year old is also considering it.
  24. I have not used Friendly Biology, but have looked through it. I think it would be a solid Jr high course, but if you were using it for highschool you would probably need to add to it.
