  1. Thanks for updating- so many times we never know if it worked out or not -so it doesn’t always help with our search. ?
  2. Has anyone used this? Thoughts? I love several things from Circe, but wondering if this is useful? Is is redundant if I already own Teaching the Classics?
  3. I loved mine when I had ceramic tile. Cleaned well, and dried really fast. I only stopped using it when we moved and had vinyl/laminate cheap floor, and it would release the glue backing on it. Couldn’t afford to replace the floor yet so out the steam mop went. I should look into one of those again...
  4. Western wear store. Wranglers cowboy cut. Thankfully Ds was/is a country boy and had no problem with it.
  5. Loving reading this thread. With my last child in high school (and 2 in college) I have been working various jobs at home to try to help out. I do in Home care. A couple days a week I over see another homeschool moms children while she works as a nurse, I also babysit a few kids, including a 3 year old child with some special needs I may end up homeschooling, I tutor some, and I provide care for an autistic lady (25) while her dad works. In the fall I will be teaching literature at a local college prep co op. So many sticks in the fire. However, I am able to nicely supplement my husbands income, provide extras and help with school costs. Some days are smooth and some are rough, but that was the case when it was just us too. ?
  6. Anne really dragged and didn’t hold our interest. We “liked” Night. It was graphic, but it was real.
  7. Ashton inn Holiday Inn Express on Warrington Blue Angels recreation park. They have 2 BR mobile homes for $70 a night. Margaritaville Hotel Quality inn At home inn and suites
  8. Are you wanting to stay on the beach? By the base? We were just there visiting my son and stayed in a nice condo on Perdido Key that was more affordable then most hotels. I will come back with a list of hotels that other Navy moms have stayed in and like.
  9. Trim healthy Mama. It does take some changes, and I keep it simple, but it works. I don’t necessarily try to replace comfort food with THM substitutes, I just have those on occasion and enjoy the new recipes for what they are.
  10. I tried to search, but didn’t find much. I have a friend pulling her daughter out of public school over the summer. She is a bright girl and will be entering 5th grade. She isn’t sure if this will be a one year thing or if it will be permanent yet. She asked me about CTC math as a curriculum, but I honestly haven’t used it or heard much about it. My youngest is in highschool, and while I try to stay familiar with curriculum choices, there is so much out there now. So what are the Hives thoughts? Solid math program or more of a supplement?
  11. If he did well with CLE Algebra 1, maybe try Saxon algebra 2? It has geometry included, and may help.
  12. Another mom in the same boat here. Writing is like pulling teeth here. We found success with Writeshop. Love that it breaks it down into manageable chunks for them. It makes the paragraph strong so the essay can be strong. Highly recommend.
  13. I’m trying to decide whether to have my highschool student go through How to Read a Book or Well Educated Mind over the summer. Do you have a preference? Do they both contain as similar information as it seems?
  14. I looked at and considered Friendly Biology, I believe I even asked here on the boards so you may want to search. A friend did end up buying it for her daughter for a lighter course. My thoughts, after looking at her copy, is that if I needed a very light treatment of the highschool sciences I would use these, but there isn’t any real depth to the program. I know that’s a vague answer, and sorry I can’t give you more specifics as we have always used Apologia. I will say I think interest level in the subject matter should also be considered. I remember cramming and brain dumping after a test in highschool and didn’t remember a thing- maybe if we had used a lighter course that provoked interest- I would have remembered more. I’ve seen a couple of my children taking that approach to Apologia as well.
  15. Well, my personal favorite is the homeschool *REAL tea time* post. I’ve been homeschooling many years now but that is one I keep open in my phone browser when I need encouragement, and direction. The search feature isn’t always reliable and sometimes I just need an on the spot reminder. I won’t have time until this weekend to mention others by title.
  16. I would also suggest that you could take some of your posts from here and make them into blog posts- that way we could find them without having to search the boards. Just a thought...
  17. She was an amazing woman. I loved the story about George coming in from a run and putting his feet on her coffee table! ? he may be President, but he’s still my son!
  18. Ran a little over 5 miles this morning- I don’t keep up with exact mileage while I’m running on the roads- I just go. Since I lift at home, I can only go “heavy” on my lifting when my husband is home- I do front dumbbell squats, and bench press lighter than “pushing it”. I’m still kinda struggling with firm on deadlifts. It’s not activating the right muscles- so I’m going to find a place and “go in” to see what I’m doing wrong. Love reading everyone’s progress- and honestly setbacks- as they let me know I’m not the only one. ?
  19. I have been doing good with my exercise- running 2.5- 3 miles every morning depending on time, and doing some weight lifting. My biggest struggle there is now that I’m working I have a time schedule- and mornings aren’t my strong time... but in the afternoon I’m exhausted... My eating.... well- it hasn’t been the greatest. I need to focus on that more. But even when I start doing good dh- who needs to loose about 80 lbs, but struggled with doing what it takes- will want to go out on a date- and it ALWAYS involves food. I enjoy it, but it’s not helping me meet my goals and it’s frustrating!
  20. Although I know of several places that don’t take cards, I also say be very diligent and alert your neighbors. He may very well been casing the place. And you had “cash” on hand. I am probably paranoid, but.... I probably would have taken him at his word and given him the money. I like to trust people until they prove me wrong.
  21. Yes, what Katy said- apparently we have similar tastes in colors and thoughts on paint value.
  22. Yes, I have always dreaded the treadmill, but I have been using it more now that I’m working- and I’m finding I enjoy it more than I used to. I like that my bathroom is nearby. I do still prefer my “long runs†outside- but my daily runs- the treadmill is growing on me.
  23. Are you following Nia Shanks plan? I’ve “heard†you mention Lift like a girl... but wasn’t sure if it was an actual “plan†you were following? I started consistently lifting weights last week 😂- I haven’t been doing a program though. Strong curves, New Rules of weightlifting, Strong 5x5, girls gone strong.... so many choices and so many opinions. I’m not looking to be a power lifter- but I want to get strong- and be able to run a few miles- got the running- just need help with the strong.
  24. I prefer the double doors on my big van. The opening and closing was never an issue- and I liked that I could use them as a “privacy shield†when a little one had to go to the bathroom- we carried a training potty in the van for emergencies and park usage when they were little.
