  1. Hi everyone, I don’t post here very often, but had a question and thought y’all would be the ones to ask. I like running and that is my main form of exercise. I know I need to add in strength training, but I’m not sure whether I should be adding things like Jillian Michaels training- which is lower weight- more reps- or if I should be lifting “heavyâ€. My only concern is not the heavier weights (I have a weight set), but that since I work out at home I can’t truly “lift heavy†because I don’t have a spotter. Any thoughts?
  2. Younger teens (15 and under?) I “censor†a bit more. Older than that- they know I don’t like/approve of some of their music- but really they have to make some choices on their own. As someone mentioned above about “exercising†their choosers or something to that effect. That’s how I look at it. I mean my favorites as a teen were Ozzy, Alice Cooper, and AC/DC. Even now as a fairly conservative Christian I like 5 Finger Death Punch- though Casting Crowns is still my favorite. 😉
  3. Well, I’ve heard Saxon and CLE are similar. Saxon has the Dive CD or Saxon Teacher cd, or Art Reed- all of which teach the lesson. They have been done at my house mostly independently.
  4. I do not buy them. My 2 older daughters (17 and 19) will occasionally buy them with their own money. The 17 year old more so than the 19 year old. I don’t like them.
  5. We’ve done cross country moves and trips with babies while in the military as well. It was all good. I would much rather drive then fly.
  6. Thanks! That does help. Looks like I can get away with not getting separate student text, but I need the teacher manuals.
  7. How useful are the teachers manuals? Can we use it with just student books and solutions manual? This is my last student and I don’t think Apologia is a good fit for this child. She will be mostly self teaching as she prefers it that way. Thoughts?
  8. Put tea bags and water in a stainless steel pan. Heat, but don’t boil ðŸ˜. Turn off heat and let seep for 15 ish minutes. Pour in pitcher with sugar and stir till dissolved. Then add cool tap water. Delicious!
  9. When I was a thug teenager I had not so nice interactions with the police. They were out to get my friends and I. I didn't like nor trust them. Now that I am a law abiding middle age white woman I haven't had any negative interactions.
  10. Well, I'm excited for you! 😉 I've always admired those in social work. I would love to be involved on one hand, on the other hand the people you have to deal with while trying to help them- and understand them...
  11. Y'all are awesome, thank you!
  12. Thank you ladies! I knew y'all would have great suggestions!
  13. I have small enough BooKs that I don't need much support, so I can get away with cheap bras. My daughter needs a better, more supportive bra. Any brands to look for? She would prefer that they look nice.
  14. I don't think they meant anything by it. Like others I think the wording choice was poor, and wasn't sufficiently thought through. Boys swim suits are shorts, usually long ones. Girls swim wear can be anything from a one piece to a bikini- all in varying styles and levels of coverage.
  15. I have not used Teaching Textbooks- but it seems the consensus is Alg. 1 is some pre algebra, and a lighter coverage of algebra 1 topics. Then algebra 2 finishes those algebra 1 topics (included in other algebra 1 programs) and includes then algebra 2. Then Precalculus covers the rest of algebra 2 topics and some pre cal. So basically it covers some topics later, and I believe it may omit some topics all together. Sorry I can't help with specifics, but if you search the board there are many topics on this subject.
  16. ^^What she said. We have a 15 passenger Chevy express with the back seat out. Made it very handy for friends, camping, shopping (we live rurally so only once a month would we go "into town" for shopping), and anything else we needed. It has been an amazing vehicle, and we only had 4 children if our own though we always seem to collect extras. Now that everyone is older it's time to downgrade to a smaller car- but that van served its purpose faithfully.
  17. I have enjoyed this thread. Glad to see I'm not alone in the struggle of wanting to go and be in church, being worn out from serving, and just not agreeing with everything. I struggle with wanting to pull away, but I struggle with not wanting to pull away. I have loved reading other people's thoughts and experiences.
  18. Yeah, I would keep all kids home because exposing the elderly wouldn't be good. Then once everyone was well do a grave side visit for closure. I just wouldn't risk that.
  19. Board games Bosch mixer Speed queen washer Desk apprentice- still use that thing Instant pot Prisma color pencils Ticeronga pencils Gamma lids Too many books to mention That's all I can think of right now...
  20. Also, just a reminder you can buy from IEW and if it's not a good fit, you can return it.
  21. Yes, I think the teachers guides have enough hand holding if you are familiar with the program that you don't need the teachers course. That said- they have a very brief synopsis DVD meant to familiarize parents with techniques if used in a co op setting that would be worth getting. http://iew.com/shop/products/structure-and-style-overview-dvd-0 Edited to add the link.
